Did I miss something, or was Opie, at that very young age, being left to awaken alone with nobody home? If Andy left a "Be right back" note for him, remember that Opie said earlier in the episode that he didn't know how to write (for the "I'm Runnin' Away From Home" note. I also assume that he couldn't read at this young age either. How about it, fellow TAGS lovers? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2001 13:11:18 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Dates <<When Andy reads the date of the battle, it is written month first followed by day. If memory serves me correctly, it was June 12 and it was carved on the board as 06-12-followed by the year. Not unusual until you realize that military dates are always written day first followed by the month then year--it should have been 12-06-year.>> You're so right, Daddy, but there's something else that puzzles me. I didn't think we used the zero (or naught) before a single digit number prior to the computer age. There was no need to do that. It would have been 6-12-year. There was a musician named Bobby (Freddy) Fleet, Who had a band with a heck of a beat, After several seasons, he and his men, Were never spoken of again, And the music was never again quite complete. There was a pretty young thang named Ellie Walker, With a beautiful voice....what a talker, They wrote her off of the show, What a sad, crushing blow, If I'd have been around then, I'd be her stalker. There was a young, nervous chap named Barney, Who slightly resembled Jim Varney, Once he left the show, It was good, no mo', and the final episodes were just blarney. (Rule #2 stretcher) Whatever happened to the salesman Don Rickles? Who came to town with junk, and a couple of nickles, If he'd have hung around longer, He would have gotten stronger, Until he ate some of Aunt Bee's pickles. There was a hot headed man named Malcolm Tucker, Who at first took the Sheriff for a sucker, But after spending time in town, He began to settle down, And you couldn't drag him out of Mayberry with a truck(er). An old crusty shop owner was named Weaver, He could be quite the mean deceiver, Though he was so darn old, He had a heart of gold, You could trust him like a Golden Retriever. There was a Crump in Mayberry for a teacher, She wasn't quite as nice as the preacher, Not all of us liked Helen, I believe in Kansas she was a felon, But she did have nice facial features. I usually take my long sig file out of my WBMUTBB posts for space reasons but AOL gave me a rude. Guess I need to call the man! Anyone notice anything unusual about the opening credits to the TAGS episodes that appeared on TV Land Wednesday night? They were two episodes that Barney guest-starred in during the color years. I think it's interesting, in light of our discussion about credits order, to note that in both of those episodes the words "Special Guest Star--DON KNOTTS" come before Andy's name, or even the show's title! Dixon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2001 14:51:28 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: The Rock Episode One of my favorite episodes of TAGS is when Otis is sent to The Rock to have Bloody Mary rehabilitate him. But there are a few things I have often wondered about. Why didn't Andy just have Otis "sleep it off" if the back room for a few hours and then take him home? I know either Andy or Barney would be in the room over night because of the prisoners, but certainly by the time they were ready to turn in Otis would have been sober enough to go home. After all he was not under arrest. Then Andy told Blood Mary how Barney would fix Otis' eggs. Now where would Barney fix those. There is only a little hot plate in the back room for the coffee and I always thought Aunt Bee made the meals for the prisoners.. And then why does Otis get to use the guest room when poor Ollie and Nora had to bunk with Andy and Aunt Bee? Just makes you want to put your head under a bucket and think. I can't comment on Griffith and Knotts, but I have the contract Frances Bavier signed for the >episode of Mayberry RFD, "Andy & Helen Get Married". She was paid $2500 >for the episode. Randy Aunt Bee certainly received a pay raise over the years. I have her original paycheck stub from episode #1 and she was paid $750.00. Even got to hug "Thel" and have my pic taken with her.....good thing Barney wasn't looking! Also got to talk to Alan Newsome for a bit ( he was VERY friendly ) and David Browning was great as usual. Shokus video is a great source for vintage commercials. They have a few from TAGS including the one Ron mentioned. There are several volumes that have about an hours worth of commercials each. They also have videos of a ton of shows from the 40's,50's & 60's. I buy a lot of tapes there, and service and quality have always been good. For copyright reasons, I guess, the main theme has been replaced by other, shall we say "less impressive" music. We're all sitting there, staring at the Fishing Hole scene with Andy and Opie, and cringing a bit. My eleven year old son looked at me in comedic repulsion, "Dad... make it stop." We all got a good laugh at that. Out of the mouths of babes. I was watching the episode recently where Clara and Aunt Bee both plan to enter the rose contest with hopes of getting their picture in the Simmon's Seed Catalog. I noticed how mean-spirited Clara was toward Aunt Bee in this episode and it got me to thinking how different Clara was in this one as opposed to the pickle episode. In "The Pickle Story", Clara seems to be much kinder toward Bee and even encourages her to enter the contest. She never even says a word about Aunt Bee's pickles tasting like kerosene cucumbers. But in "A Rose Is A Rose" she seems very competitive and even rude...especially in the scene where she and Myrtle are "cuttin' Aunt Bee up pretty bad". Of course, Clara sure makes up for it by giving her prize to Aunt Bee in the end (after telling everyone how Bee's rose, Deep Pink Ecstacy, was destroyed). Now don't get me wrong...I love both episodes and am not bad-mouthing anyone...i was just noticin' and thought I'd pass it along. Thanks to all who write in. You folks always make my day!
