Subject: What TAGS represents
I was going through some of my albums this week and
came across a song that instantly made me think of
TAGS and all that the show represents. The song was
by the Monkees and I assume it was written in the
1960s. However, I feel like the song was written now
looking back at the era represented by TAGS. Keep in
mind the TAGS era represents honesty, integrity and
morals severally lacking today.
SHADES OF GRAY
When the world and I were young just yesterday
Life was such a simple game a child could play
It was easy then to tell right from wrong
Even then to tell weak from strong
When a man should stand and fight or just go along
But today there is no day or night
Today there is no dark or light
Today there is no black or white
Only shades of gray
I remember when the answers seemed so clear
We have never lived with doubt or tasted fear
It was easy then to tell the truth from lies
Selling out from compromise
The foolish from the wise
But today there is no day or night
Today there is no dark or light
Today there is no black or white
Only shades of gray
It was easy then to know what was fair
When to keep and what to share
How much to protect your heart
How much to care
But today there is no day or night
Today there is no dark or light
Today there is no black or white
Only shades of gray

I never noticed that Floyd (Howard McNear) was 'Andy the Barber' on a Leave

Not to mention the second spell that allowed him to play

Subject: bad words from Rafe
Thank you Joe for hearing the bad word. I thought for years that I was
hearing things. I taped the show and I also
bought a video with "RAFE HOLLISTER SINGS", this is episode 83. The bad
word is said when Andy is trying to remember who was caught moonshining the
year before. Rafe is the culprit of saying the bad word, not our dear
Andy. Andy and Barney have thought of a way to give Rafe some clothes
without it being charity.
Are there any recordings of Jack Prince singing? I love to hear him sing.
Okay for the experts is Mr. Prince still alive?
Also what else did he do?
Rafe also said "When he was hot, he was dang hot." This is from the
episode with Nurse Mary and everyone needing a tetanus shot. I love it
when Barney has to get his shot.

Subject: Arnold's 13th Birthday Party
Hi Y'all! and especially to my friend LINDA!!!!!! :-)
Did anyone notice that Aunt Bee was amazed about Arnold being 13? She commented
that she still remembered when she saw Arnold's birth announcement... now, I
know some of y'all are gonna comment that this is just "artistic license"..
but,
in reality, Aunt Bee only came on the show when Opie was only a few years old..
She came to NC from VA, as I recall... how'd she happen to see Arnold's birth
announcement? But, I still think it's cool that Opie and Mary Alice got
together
in the end.. after all, it was meant to be!!!
Gotta run .. gotta go to the fillin' station and see if I won the "grab bag for
cash"

Really enjoyed the show.Haven't seen this one in a
while.Especially the shopping trip for the suit,For
once Aunt Bee had to bow to Andy's expertise in the
shopping dept. Opie's dancing reminded me of the time
he and Andy were at the same dance, both nervous about
the steps and surprised themselvews by how well they
did and how much fun they had.Helen got a little"wild"
with her dance, think it was called the frug,am I
right? Kinda before my day.

Here is my first and last contribution to the limerick
collection. I believe that these follow the proper
format.
I only have one thing to say,
To escape from the stress of the day,
Just sit and watch "Andy",
That show is a dandy,
For chasing your troubles away.
If every town could be,
A little like Mayberry,
Such a wonderful place
With a nice, slow pace,
That would be fine with me.

Subject: WBMUTBB Silent Auction at MD01
It is time to start thinking about our WBMUTBB Silent Auction for Mayberry
Days 2001. This is our chapter's annual community service project that
supports the people who make it all happen, Surry Arts Council (SAC). Money
raised helps in the cost of the weekend, and provides additional funds for
their special needs and school programs throughout the year. Your
involvement and support has put our TAGSRWC Chapter at SAC's highest level
of supporters and provides a sense of pride to help out such an outstanding
organization that does so much more than Mayberry Days.
The Silent Auction showcases many talented people who are members of
WBMUTBB. All bid items are TAGS related and many are handcrafted especially
for the auction - paintings, sketches, clothing, jewelry, and home
furnishings. There is also autographed memorabilia, trading cards, photos,
calendars and books - things you don't normally find in a store or something
from a store that has been transformed into a 'must-have' for a TAGS fans.
Two of this year's great items include a Squad Car Cookie Jar autographed by
Don Knotts (from TAGSRWC) and Harvey Bullock has donated an autographed TAGS
script (Thank you!!)
Of course it doesn't happen without your help during the event. The past 2
years, many of the same people have generously given a couple hours of their
time on Saturday morning. We have the prime 10am to Noon slot - after the
parade and before the afternoon activities, so we don't miss a thing. Many
of you have already promised to help in 2001, but let me invite others to
get involved - if you can give an hour or more, that gives you a chance to
meet fellow WBMUTBB members (they're nice, real nice) and also keep a close
eye on the action.
The easiest way to donate your item is bring it with you to Mount Airy and
drop it off at the Playhouse. If you have something to donate, but cannot
attend, you can mail it to SAC:
Surry Arts Council
WBMUTBB Silent Auction
The Andy Griffith Playhouse
P.O. Box 141
Mount Airy, NC 27030
Also, I like to get photos of items to post on Surry Arts Council's website
and help promote the event at www.surryarts.org.
2001 will be our third year and it has gotten better each year thanks to the
continued support of old and new members of WBMUTBB. I look forward to
hearing from you and seeing all the great things up for bid in September.
If you have any questions, suggestions, want to donate an item, or help out
during the auction, please email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I look forward to hearing from you, however, I will be unable to respond
completely until early August, as I am working on FEMA disaster relief in
South Dakota and don't have regular access to the internet.
Jeff
p.s. This year Surry Arts Council will be raffling off a set of the first
10 Columbia House TAGS videos (the good ones!). Tickets will be very
reasonable, so buy early and often (and rub Opie's head for luck!) I will
be checking into availability of ticket sales to people who cannot attend
Mayberry Days.

If any TAGS fans are in Kansas City between July 10 and September 8, you might
want to stop by Crown Center. They're having another "Things People Collect"
exhibit. I've been asked to display some of my TAGS memorabilia--autographs,
tapes, signs, cards, Mayberry Union High letter jacket, and so on. There will
be
many other folks displaying all kinds of things they collect. Looking forward
to
it.
Lotsa luck to you and yours. Hoping to finish my sermon by tomorrow morning and
that I won't be dry as dust. Neil Engle

Subject: Pluggers
The comic strip "Pluggers" made a reference to TAGS in its comic
strip on 7/6/01. I cut it out and stuck it on my TV. Just thought
some of you might like it, too.
To find it, go to www.comicspage.com . Click on "choose
a comic strip" and choose "Pluggers" from the drop down menu. It will show the
current day's strip. To access the 7/6/01 strip, click on the green arrow
to the left of the date until you reach 7/6/01.
Enjoy!
