If I remember correctly, the reference to an "Andrew Jackson Taylor" was in
the first (black and white) high school reunion episode. It's not spoken but
you see it written out in the yearbook Andy and Barney are looking through.

What you can do is burn it in the VCD format. (There is software to do this
and I have seen several articles on the internet with all the how to's). Most
newer DVD players will play the VCD format. (That's a format that never
really caught on here in the good ol' USA).

The house used in Mayberry RFD for the Jones Family is indeed the same house
exterior used for The Waltons... the barn is even the same, just painted a
different color.

The sets for these were on the Warner Brothers Burbank lot... and the house
remained there until 1996 when it was moved to make room for a new parking
garage at Warners. At that time, the house set was disassembled and relocated
then rebuilt (even the trees were moved) to the Warner Brothers Ranch lot in
Burbank, approximately 1.5 mile from the main WB lot. It stands there now
where the Fantasy Island house once stood.

There's a bit of trivia on the house. Anyone still interested in TAGS 8x10
photos, please drop me an email.

Regards.

Could anyone tell me where I could purchase the "Bobbin' Head" Andy and
Barney set. I noticed that they were all sold out on the internet. I saw
a set of them a couple of years ago in a store window in Mt. Airy and I
just love them!!

Kathy, although your link to channel 19 didnot work, i was able to go directly
to their home page, and sign on to their feedback line, and pleaded with them
not to take andy off of his 4:00pm timeslot-i reminded them when they tried
this with dr. laura, and how that didnt work-hopefully, if enough people
complain, we can nip this thing in the bud, before it gets started(i`m all
for bud-nipping!)-thanks for the info!

Barb, I'm proud of your son too! Thank you so much for a testimonial to
gladden our hearts. We hear so much negative about today's youth that
it's refreshing and downright inspirational to hear experiences such as
yours.

< In several of the episodes that i watched of RFD this
< weekend, Goober made mention that he was the residing

< mayberry having a sheriff anymore

In "The Caper" (2nd season), it's established that the town did not replace
Andy and contracts with the State Police for any major problems. Otherwise,
Goober is in charge. That sets up the plot of the episode, when Howard robs
the bank to prove that a part-time deputy is not enough protection.

In the mid-60s, CBS added "TAGS" reruns to its afternoon schedule. "TAGS"
was still in 1st-run prime time, so the network changed the reruns' title to
differentiate. To complicate matters, when Viacom (then only a distribution
subsidiary of CBS) syndicated the show to local broadcast stations in the
late 60s, many packages included "Andy of Mayberry" prints. The "AofM"
prints continued to be seen well into the '70s, and slowly disappeared thru
the '80s as local station syndication packages stopped using 16mm film and
converted over to new video copies and satellite feeds.

< one of the episodes last night, my husband, daughter,
< and I all noticed a strong resemblance between the
< outside of Sam Jones' house and the house used on The
< Waltons. Did anyone else notice this? Could it be
< the same house?

It's the same house and barn (actually they're both just facades). "Mayberry
RFD" and "The Waltons" both leased that backlot space on the Columbia Studios
Ranch, located in Burbank a few blocks north of Warner Brothers. That
backlot has been owned by Warner Brothers for a number of years, and is now
known as the Warner Brothers Ranch. To the best of my knowledge, the "house"
still stands.

"RFD" filmed in 3 locations during its first two seasons: the Columbia Ranch
for the outdoor farmhouse scenes, 40 Acres in Culver City for outdoor shots
of downtown Mayberry, and the Desilu soundstages in LA for all indoor scenes.
In season 3, "RFD" moved its soundstage sets and outdoor Mayberry filming to
the main Warner Brothers Studio in Burbank.

I just got my pictures back from the Mayberry Reunion in Nashville and we
were using a new camera and most of our pictures are fuzzy and black. I was
just sick. I got a great one of Goober hugging my daughter and "Floyd" cutting
our hair but my pictures of Don Knotts just didn't come out. If anyone else
went I will gladly pay you for a copy of your pictures. My church sent me for
teaching the Mayberry Bible study and I was going to fix a scrapbook for the
church. By the way, I am as well a new fan of Mayberry RFD I never much cared
for the show until this past weekend. The episode where they formed the
bicycle club was so funny and Goober's bicycle was a girls bike his sister
gave him so he tied a broom handle across the top to make it a boys bike was
hilarious. Hope someone else has pictures!!
Thanks,

Thanks to all who answered my RFD question, shucks I feel so silly for not
knowing that. As some of you mentioned, I too was shocked at the episode in
which Andy and Helen came home with a baby. I had no idea, did anyone else
think that Helen looked a tad too old to be a new Mom (OOPS! don't mean to be
unkind), but really! Also, I have to confess RFD just didn't do it for me.
It was sort of like returning to your childhood to find everything different.
Goober, Howard and Emmet were often mean spirited and a couple of times I
wanted to crack Emmet as he was a pain in the neck. Also, Aunt Bea in Sam
house, nope just didn't work for me. Oh well, back to reality. Thanks again
to all. Barb

>wasn't it mentioned In "Return to Mayberry" that Barney was the acting
>sheriff since the death of Sheriff Patterson?

>the producers dont remember the story lines as well as the fans!

While these inconsistencies annoy those of us who prefer to view Mayberry as
a living community with a reliable history, the producers and writers were
not invested in a continuity of the storyline so much as they were hired to
produce individual programs which could be commercially marketed. TAGS was
more character driven, and less storyline driven (such as a serial program
would be, i.e., a soap opera). We are just blessed that many of the programs
DO follow the individual histories of the characters.

This is why I believe it is important to create out own personal history of
Mayberry given what we know of the character and personalities of the good
people of Mayberry.

* I think Barney became Sheriff after Andy moved away.

*It is CONSISTENT with Aunt Bee's character that she was a Mayberrian who
raised Andy in Mayberry and had just finished raising another child when she
was needed to raise Opie.

*I think Andy, Jr was visiting a friend or cousin and just doesn't appear in
the "Return to Mayberry" movie (as opposed to being vaporized by the writers)!

*And I certainly like to think that Ernest T. Bass and all the Darling men
each found a good woman to love them and their quirks, and are raising a
passle of young'uns somewhere in the hills of North Carolina...

I saw two episodes...there were likely more...in which Goober actually had on a
deputy uniform. One of them was the one about the moon rocks (he was working
security) and the other was the one in which Mike bought a $15 car (he writes a
ticket to Sam for numerous violations)...
