Come to think of it, Ernest T. may have said that a couple of other
times...including once when he thought Malcolm Merriwether was Irish!

In the episode where Barney had a road block and was stopping and frisking
everyone, even the mayor, a lady said," But Barney, I'm your mother." She
didn't look like Barney at all.

On one of the very first episodes, Barnie is stopping cars and searching
people looking for a criminal. Barnie was shown searching a woman outside her
car. I believe the lady Barnie was searching then said, "But, Barnie, I am
your mother" or something to that effect.

I have been enjoying this forum until today. I was very dismayed to see a
promo for some TV station advertising a show called IYANLA and it's news
broadcast(in addition to TAGS). THIS IS SHAMEFUL! If they want to promote
TAGS; fine, but I do not read this to be bombarded by advertising/. I hope
this is not a sign of things to come! Once again another unwarranted
intrusion.
Otherwise, keep up the great work and thanks for all the insight into the BEST
show ever to air on television!!

I'm sure one of our Mayberry-thinkin'-bucket-users-extraordaire (like Paul,
for example), will probably give you a more expert answer, but there was one
episode. (Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly which one. As they say
in Nigeria, "Sorry-O".) There's an episode when Barney has set up a highway
checkpoint and is searching everyone who crosses the county line. As I
recollect, they're searching for an es-caped convict. Barney searches a
number of people, including Mayor Pike and... his mother. Her line is "But
Barney... I'm your Mother!"

(This will probably be one of several answers on this one...)

Ron, if you hear anymore about that Mall, be sure to let us know; I've
not heard a thing about it but would love to visit when it's done!
As for love in Mayberry, I remember Andy telling Aunt Bee that among
folks who love one another, what's best for us is only what's best for
you (or something along those lines) when she was gonna' marry Mr. Goss
just to give Andy some freedom. And I think he said something similar
when she was fudging about that butter and egg man too. I love those
episodes.

The only episode where Barney's mother was shown was in episode 2 (I believe),
when Barney had set up a roadblock and was checking everyone . . . . . . to
make sure no one was an escaped prisoner in clever disguise. But Barney, I'm
your mother", was the only line she had in that episode. Lilian Culver never
appeared again in any episodes, to my knowledge. Someone out there correct me
If'n I'm wrong. :-)

There was one episode when Barney was stopping all vehicles to look for a
criminal. She was at the side of the car, maybe being frisked, I think, and she
said, "But Barney, I'm your mother!". Apparently he was stopping absolutely
everyone in his zeal. That's the only episode I remember her being in, but I'm
going by my faulty memory, so I could be wrong. Not sure the title of the
episode

Something about the way Andy Griffith has been airing on TV Land & Nick at
Nite lately is bugging me. Some episodes start with the announcer saying
"The Andy Griffith Show.. Starring Andy Griffith..." and so on. Other
episodes have just the names and theme music however, with no
announcer. Even others have the words far to one corner of the screen,
rather than in their normal position. Anybody know the reasons behind
these differences? The Columbia House videos also do virtually the same
thing. They simply have the words with no announcer. I know this has been
discussed before, but what EXACTLY is the right way? I had assumed the
episodes with the announcer were correct, but now I'm left to wonder.

I've been receiving the digest for about a year now and I really enjoy it.
All my questions have pretty much been answered . However, last night I saw
the episode where Opie is jealous of Peggy because Andy invites her to go
fishing with them. I wonder, what became of the lovely actress who played
Peggy McMillan?

I believe that both people have to have the same first and middle
names to be either a "Jr." or "II." I think the difference is that
it's "Jr" if it's the father and son who have the name. It's "II" if
it's different relatives.

Of course Dale Earnhardt, Jr is contrary to that theory (there was no
Dale, Sr - dad's name was Relph Dale Earnhardt).

Finally found the schedule for airing TAGS episodes,
and it looks like us heathen rabble-rousers who prefer

looks like they're by-passing episodes #1&#2, as well
as 5 & 6. As long as #160-249 are over, I'm reborn.

I don't know about Don Knotts' real mother being on TAGS, but a "mother
figure" appeared on the Manhunt episode when Barney stopped her on the
highway. Barney told her to get out of the car so he could frisk her, and
she said "But Barney, I'm your mother."

I have never posted to the Digest before, but I just had to share something
that my 4-year-old nephew said over the weekend. My sister had been
shopping and bought him some new jeans for school. The tag on the jeans had
a red-headed boy and girl on it and he said, "Mommy, that looks like the
Andy Griffith boy!" He thought it was a picture of Opie and cried because
he didn't want her to cut the tag off. Who would have thought that the show
would still be having an impact on so many people all these years later!

I also wanted to say that I too thought Helen looked much better and seemed
much more relaxed in the episode where they came back to Mayberry to have
the baby christened. I think marriage really agreed with her!

I had to put on my thinkin' bucket for this one. The
only episode I remember Barney's mother appearin' in
was, I believe, "The Manhunt."

Barney sets up a road block and is searchin' people
and vehicles when they come by. He makes a comment
that he has to search everyone, and this lady turns
around and says, "But, Barney, I'm your mother." He
also searches the mayor. Good ole Barney, he leaves
no stone unturned.
