It was such a neat thing - In 1969 the Dillards came to our house and spent the evening with us - pickin' & grinnin' - one of the highlights of my year next to my son being born - he was so little - didn't even have his eyes open yet. They ate dinner with us and I didn't hit anyone with a spoon. We had ham and TATERS and pearly onions, corn on the cob and some green stuff but I can't remember exactly what it was and, of course, plenty of BREAD. Here is one pretty good reason: as time went by, and the whistler got a little older, it was easier to whistle in a lower key. Just like as we get older our voices drop some and it is easier for a person to sing the same song in a lower key as they got older. Example: a lot of the stars here in Branson who have been singing the same songs for years and years have lowered their keys. Time passes, we get older and our voices and whistlers get older and need a break. There is a good explanation: Remember back when men wore ONE color of shirts:white? Everybody except TV people in front of the camera; their white shirts looked grey on camera and they got to wear BLUE shirts. Voila`... men began wearing colored shirts. When the nice folks at Opryland sent us a press release about the Mayberry Reunion, I jumped on the chance to cover it with great joy! What a thrill it was to discover the wonderful town of Mayberry lives on in such a variety of ways!
