I may be really slow on the draw on this, but I have a question for the
digest. I am ashamed to say that while I have been a TAGS fan all my life,
I guess I cannot call myself a "true" TAGS fan due to my long running
bigotry against the color episodes. However, now that I'm finally sitting
down and watching some of them for the first time, I'm finding out how much
I've been missing over the years! Thanks to this digest for getting me
interested in ALL the episodes!

I made an observation last night while watching "The Wedding". Paul Hartman
(a.k.a. Emmett Clark) can really cut a rug! Was he a professional dancer?

I need some advice:

I subscribed to and bought all of the first 10 TAGS from Columbia
House. Of course, I was more than a little happy to hear they
extended the offerings. I sent a message to customer service via
their website asking how to "re-up" at the point where I left off. I
got a reply saying that since my account was over six months old,
they'd cancelled it and I'd have to sign on as a new subscriber.
They gave me a number to call to do that. No problem (I thought). I
called the number and it was a totally automated kinda thing without
the choice I needed. However, it did give me another number to call.
So I called and finally talked to a real person. I exlained what I
wanted to do and was told I'd have to resubscribe, but they'd start
sending first tapes first. I tried to explain again that I already
had those, I wanted to start at tape number 11. (We went through this
several times.) She said they couldn't do that. I asked who else I
could talk to and was told customer service. OK, can I get the
number for that? Well, they don't have a number. What???? Oh, I'd
have to leave a message via their website. Of course, I told her
that's where I started. I think somebody needs to go back to
Bradbury Business College to learn how to deal with customers. I
tell ya, I was as frustrated by that phone conversation as Mr. Tucker
was with the Mendlebright sisters.

I know some of you have sucessfully done what I'm trying to do. So,
what should I do?

>>>Hey Group - I had my own personal Mayberry Reunion - just watching "The
Music Man" this afternoon.
>>>

That's one of my all-time favorite movies. Mayberryites who also graced the
sidewalks of River City include:

Charles Lane (Mayberry's Mr. Frisby)
Maudie Prickett (Aunt Nora et al)
Max Showalter (aka Casey Adams - antique dealer who buys town cannon)
Ray Kellogg (truck driver Edgar J. Masters at Checkpoint Chickie)
Rance Howard, Sara Seegar, Jesslyn Fax (various townspeople)

And, as you correctly stated:

Ronny Howard
Ronnie Dapo (Arnold Winkler et al)
Delos Jewkes (Glenn Cripe)

I just have to say that the episode last night where Howard's mother got
married and moved to Mt. Pilot and he fixed up the house as his "bachelor
pad" was a hoot! I had never seen this particular episode and have to admit
that I have never been a big fan of the color episodes. However, since TV
Land has been showing the color eps lately, I have found that there are a
lot of them that are really funny.

Saw our own Howard recently on the first episode of Newhart when he
bought the country inn in Vermont; Jack Dodson was the realtor. I
remember seeing him as the radio station head guy in the short-lived
series "Homefront" a few years ago but he was a meanie in that one.

The Dillards were performing here in Dallas one night and a bunch of us
bluegrass music pickers hog-tied 'em after the show, put 'em on the truck and
brought 'em to the house - fed 'em and held 'em hostage all night. That's

Enjoyed the postings that referenced the melodious duet between Andy and
Barney in front of Otis's cell. The song that begins with the words, "We
shall meet, but we shall miss him" is a favorite of mine also, and also
showed that Barney (Don Knotts) had a good voice and harmonized well.

Those of you have logged on recently know that I grew up in Mount Airy, NC
at the same time Andy Griffith did, went to the same schools, and had many
of the same experiences.

One of the things Andy and I share is the importance of "The Golden Book of
Songs." It was the required song book for all of us at "Rockford Street
Grammar School" (the school auditorium has now been transformed into "The
Andy Griffith Playhouse.") The music teacher, Ms. Coleman, did her best
to teach all of us at least the rudiments of singing simple harmony. One of
the songs in the book that provided that opportunity was the Civil War
song, "The Vacant Chair," the first verse of which begins, "We shall meet
but we shall miss him."

I would really like some 8.5 X 11 TAGS stationery that I could use as TAGS
"letterhead." Any chance that Weaver's could come up with something? I
don't currently have the right computer equipment to work something up on my
own. Has anyone "out there" ever produced something? Would anyone be
WILLING to produce something?
