My top 6: * Lydia: A great source of quotes. And that hangdog look of hers was priceless! * Mary Simpson (played by Sue Ane Langdon ): My personal favorite for Andy. She was so sweet. * Mary Grace: What a girl - nice, real nice! * Charlene: She almost made me cry when she sang "There is a Time". * Big Maude: What a woman! Too much for most any man to hold. and of course... * Aunt Bee: A haven in the storms of life. All would be right in their world when they got home to her fussing and home-cooking. While watching the episode "Stranger in Town", I noticed that Floyd was played by Walter Baldwin, not by Howard McNear. Now, I have seen this episode numerous times, but either I missed it, or it never dawned on me before. My question is this... Is this a case of two actors playing the same part, or were there actually two separate Floyd the barbers in Mayberry? The character played by Baldwin was distinctly different than the one played by McNear. "Judy, Judy, Judy..." I just love when Barney wants to go for a walk when they are out at the picnic and when he tries to help her stand up he almost gets pulled back down.Such loverboy!!!!!!!!!!!!And Aunt Bee and all the other ladies later go on strike in support of Ellie. I guess this was unheard of since "women's lib" hadn't started to confuse society yet. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Was thinking (with bucket on ofcourse) which episode-(black and white) had the most actors of all Mayberry regulars appearing in it. By this I mean, Andy, Barney, Opie, Gomer/Goober, Floyd, Aunt Bea, Otis, Clara, Thelma Lou, Helen, the mayor...all appearing in the same episode. ~Gail Starlings...oh your full of beans!!! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 17:14:41 -0500 From: "Margaret Bentle" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Several sightings of TAGS people and a question or two. Hello to all the new members and remember the rule's of Allen. I saw Parley Baer on 'Mad About You', he played the Polar bear swimmer husband. I watched a movie called 'Rainbow Over Texas' made in 1946, starring Roy Rogers and Trigger (the smartest horse in the movies). There were two sightings in that movie: Mayor Pike (Dick Elliott) played Cap (captain of a boat) and the executive producer of TAGS Sheldon Leonard played Kirby Haynes (bad guy). Trivia question: (I know this answer.) What other movie were Dick Elliott and Sheldon Leonard in? Now for the questions: 1. In the episode were Ernest T. Bass wants a uniform, behind Ernest T's head on a window it says 'Chance Bar'. You see this when Barney breaks the court house window with his gun and when Andy and Barney chase after Ernest T. Bass. What is the 'Chance Bar'? 2. Does anyone know who played Sheila Summers on the very first 'Bewitched' episode? She looks like someone who played on TAGS. Margaret Take that gun out of your mouth, Barn. ______________________________________________________________________ The information in this email and in any attachments is confidential and may be privileged. Other honorable mentions: Thelma Lou, Mayor Pike's daughter, (who was also Lydia Crosswaithe) both Mary's, Peggy, Andy's "cousin", and Lucy Matthews. These are all based entirely upon their attractive physical features, nothing else. Ellie could be caustic, but I really thought she had the best chemistry with the original, deep drawled, smiley faced Andy. Maybe if she had come along later in the series when Andy's personality changed, they would have kept her. "We want Ellie, We want Ellie" As for Floyd's stroke, I believe he suffered that not long after filming "Convicts at Large", which was at the end of a season, and didn't return until the next season or even the one after that. His performance in "Goober takes a car apart" was incredible. I believe I read where Andy had to re-shoot several scenes over, because Floyd cracked him up so much. I personally liked the more laid back-post stroke Floyd. His previous hyperactive personna was fun, but could have possibly led to his ailment. Maybe high blood pressure. What a wonderful character actor he was. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 08:44:08 -0600 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Aunt Bee TAGS fans, Watched one of my favorite movies the other night, "Bend of the River" with Jimmy Stewart. One of the minor characters is played by Francis Bavier. Except that her hair's darker, she is actually made up to look a little older than her Aunt Bee character. It must have been in this movie that she fell in love with Rock Hudson, because he's in it, too. If you watch it expecting her to be Aunt Bee, though, be warned: she's really grumpy. I know when I quote something from another source, not only do I have to credit them, but I can only use so many words or a certain percentage. I am not a lawyer (nor do i play one on TV!) but it seems to me the quotes might be the intellectual property of whoever owns the licensing rights to Mayberry. It is one thing to use them on a free website, possibly quite another to compile them and market thing. Kathryn ****(NOTE FROM ALLAN: Kathryn is right....we can't "market" or sell the compiled quotes we come up with but we could should let folks read them and make it something we could all download from the web site. I'm all for it and I have a LOT of quotes that I've collected and for the most part I'm 97% sure they are word for word. I'll be glad to send them along as part of the project.)**** ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 19:07:43 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Comments and suggestions Hey folks, I'm always trying to get input from WBMUTBB Members about what they like and don't like about the WBMUTBB Digest. I posted a message saying I did not know when his stroke was. Then I received a message from Dan saying Howard McNear's stroke was after the episode "Convicts at Large" in season 3. Therefore, his first episode after the stroke would be "Back to Nature" at the end of season 4. Hope that answers the question. Thanks for the info, Dan. Every one of my family and friends love my pickles. I got this from a wonderful teacher friend. Best of all-it's EASY! Dill Pickles 1 quart vinegar (5% apple cider) 3 quarts water 1 cup canning salt Boil mixture, pour over cucumbers in quart jars. In each jar, have 2 heads of dill, (or 3 tsp of dill seeds,) 1-2 hot peppers, 1-2 garlic buds, 1/8 tsp alum. Seal immediately. Keep in refrigerator. It's part of the reason they are so incredibly crisp. Also, the county extension agent advised us years ago that it is no longer safe with any food to only seal it without then processing. Too many organisms in the environment that were not present in earlier times. Also, if you process them (heat quart jars 10 minutes in boiling water) you will not like the product. They become quite limp. As to your salsa request, I love to whip up a batch of fresh salsa. I cook by the seat of my pants, so I don't have a ratio (poor Horatio), but just experiment with the ingredients until you like it! Chop tomatoes finely (about pea size). Chop hot peppers, ( I like hot bananas) and add cilantro, finely chopped. If the swallowtail caterpillars have eaten all your cilantro, like they did mine, you can use parsley, or even Italian parsley. Add chopped onions and it's ready. It's even better when it sits an hour or more. It keeps a LONG time in the fridge. Best of luck to you and yours.
