But I thought those pickles had a label on them, like they came from a store
or something?

Early on in the Gossipin' Men when the ladies are passing the new around
about Barney getting hurt, it was interesting to notice that 2 of the phones
being used were dial phones, including Emma Watsons. I wonder if Sarah
knows about these interlopers?

Sam, if you think Francis Bavier's character in Bend in the River was
grumpy, you should see her in The Lone Ranger. She locks the Ranger and
Tonto in a barn and tries to burn them up! But it probably was justified, I
think Tonto made a disparaging remark about her pickles.

They were in my favorite of all time, "It's a Wonderful Life." Dick Elliott
is the old man on the porch ("Why don't you kiss her instead of talking her
to death...oh, youth is wasted on the wrong people!"), and Sheldon Leonard is
Nick the Bartender ("Out you two pixies go, through the window or out the
door!").
Another TAGS sighting from that film: "Hubcaps" Lesch herself, Ellen Corby,
is one of the depositors at the bank who decides she doesn't need as much as
she thought...I think Jimmy Stewart even kisses her.

< Trivia question: (I know this answer.)
< What other movie were Dick Elliott and Sheldon Leonard in?
I can think of two off the top of my head: "It's a Wonderful Life" and
"Another Thin Man" (which also costarred Shemp Howard). Elliott and Leonard
were both prolific character day players at several studios in the '30s and
'40s... their paths crossed several other times.
< Now for the questions:
< 2. Does anyone know who played Sheila Summers on the very first 'Bewitched'
< episode? She looks like someone who played on TAGS.
Sheila was played by Nancy Kovack, who also also played that role in two
fourth season episodes of "Bewitched" (and an Italian vixen/client in a fifth
season two-parter). In 1965, she was Annie Oakley in the Three Stooges'
feature "The Outlaws IS Coming" opposite Adam West. She left acting in the
late '60s when she married symphony conductor Zubin Mehta. Ms. Kovack was
never on "TAGS."

Seems that I noticed them do the same thing a couple of weeks ago with "The
Wedding", mentioning that Terri Garr made a cameo appearance, and to the
best of my memory, that scene was cut, too.
Having TAGS on TVLand is better than nothing, for sure. But it is annoying
nonetheless.

Subject: TAGS inspirations.
In reference to the subject of how has TAGS affected our lives I'd like to
give some input. I work in a large supermarket and though it's large it serves
several small town folks. I've worked here for 14 years and though I've often
felt I could do better I stay where I am. I stay because having been a TAGS
fan for so long I've come to see the simplicity and acceptance of life.
Dealing with the public can be very stressful - lordy, the stories I could
tell, but my TAGS inspirations have made my job one of lessons well learned. I
see folks chatting and laughing, sharing stories, complaints and just life in
general. Because of TAGS I've become a part of that, not going to my job and
thinking of making more money or seeking a position to enhance my ego. No,
TAGS isn't what life IS but what it CAN BE. Yes, TAGS has afftected me.
May you all have a Mayberry day

She appears in two early episodes, "Ellie for Council" and "Andy Saves
Barney's Morale." She is mentioned, but not seen, in "The Christmas Story"
(she sent a card to Barney-Parney-Poo).

Those must have been good store pickles, because they had a printed label on
them (Mr. Vasiliovich, in his broken English, mispronounced them as "pick
less.") I doubt they were bad old home pickles left over from operation
pickle-switch -- surely Aunt Bee wouldn't keep anything in the fridge for
six years.

Yes, absolutely, over the years I have met many people that I liked and
admired and I can't tell you how often when I've gotten to know them better
we find that we share a love for good ole Mayberry. Also, I have 3 of the
greatest kids in the world (teenagers yet), and I credit TAGS for much of
that, I can't tell you how often I've asked myself "OK, how would Andy handle
this," I know the answer every time. I just don't think that you can be a
TAGS fan and a bad person at the same time. The same thing goes for those
that garden, always nice people.

The great movie by Frank Capra, director, Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed the
main actor's.
Give up "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE".
Mayor Pike plays the man on the porch.
Sheldon Leonard plays Nick the bartender.
Thanks to the people who sent me the e-mails.
I lost all of my e-mails that were sent to me about the trivia question and
about the questions I needed answered.
I didn't even get my digest today because of problems at work with the
e-mail system.
Luckily I can go to the digest and read it on the web site.

I'm not sure of the name (help me out here Paul,) but there's another
episode that uses a stand-in for Floyd. As Andy and Opie walk past the
shop, "Floyd" turns toward the window and you can see it's not Howard
McNear. It almost looks like the actor who plays Mr. Schwump to me.
Maybe Floyd's barber claw was acting up and he had Mr. Schwump fill in
for him. That's a scary thought. If you weren't setting still in the
chair he'd probably pinch you.

Hello Mayberry friends... You are real people right? I'm not blurring
Fact and Television am I?
I caught a glance of a sign in Floyd's Barbershop that shows a price for a
"shine". I don't believe I ever saw anyone get a shoe-shine in Floyd's.
Did you? Maybe that was a head shine for bald guys? Of course there
weren't very many bald guys in Mayberry.
Mayor Pike had a little bit of a dome I think, but do you remember any other
balding men of Mayberry?? I remember at least one other guy, and it wasn't
Newton Monroe..he had hair then.
I enjoyed seeing all the "now appreciate Color Episodes" converts. I had a
similar experience and wonder if this happened to anyone else. When I was
just a TAGS novice...I mean a wet behind the ears, couldn't name even one of
Barney's middle names...I didn't care for the Darlings's episodes.
I wasn't a country music fan, and I thought that those shows just took away
from Barney, and Gomer and Opie and all the stuff I enjoyed about the other
shows. But then...just like a trusty beard on Briscoe, they grew on me.
When I got to see the Dillards and Charlene in person last year in Pigeon
Forge, well that was just the cats. Anybody else have that kind of
metamorphysicist with some part that you didn't use to like? Make it
positive now,..you've seen alot lately about rule number 2, and that's
something you just can't talk about enough, SIN!.
>>Is this a case of two actors playing the same part, or were there actually
two separate Floyd the barbers in Mayberry?<<
I'd have to say two actor's my friend, just like 3 Ben Weavers, 2 Dud
Walshes etc. etc.
>>which episode-(black and white) had the most actors of all Mayberry
regulars appearing in it.>>
By my quick glance 2 episodes feature 8 regulars #125 the Rumor (Andy,
Barney, Aunt Bee, Opie, Floyd, Helen, Thelma Lou, Gomer) and #148 Barney
Runs for Sheriff (same group with Goober instead of Gomer) many others
feature 6 or 7. trained notices may find others
I can't believe that I did not see "Man's Best Friend" (Goobers Talkin'
Dog) among the color favorites. It's one of mine along with many that you
all mentioned.
My Favorite Song is 'Bar-ney's in jail-- Bar-ney's in jail!" It makes me
laugh
