I've been out of town, just catching up on my digesting.

Every time I see this episode I laugh out loud at the
statue's unveiling.
I know this has the potential of violating rule #2 but isn't
that statue comical looking? The scale of it is off and the
uplifted arm doesn't have an elbow, looks kind of like a
bent pipe or something. Who do you think really sculpted
that thing? Newton Monroe?

I don't know about Andy, but Ron Howard is a major movie mogul and is
definitely that busy. When they were filming "Return to Mayberry" he stayed
on the phone a lot, dealing with the post-production of "Cocoon."

Thanks Aunt Bee, I am humbled! "Adams of Eagle Lake" only lasted two
episodes on ABC in 1975...it was about a small town sheriff I believe, but
this one was an hour long drama. I think Abby Dalton was in it, too. I
would be surprised if this one was available on video...as for the others, I
don't know, but I think "Salvage One" might be easy to find on the trading
circuit, since it has something of a cult following...

For those interested in TAGS cast members' credits before and after
Mayberry, plus their birthdates and other statistics, a solid source online
is the Internet Database (http://www.imdb.com/).

Use their search engine to select "People," then type in your favorite TAGS
actor's name and you'll find an extensive list of credits.

Happy Hunting!

Subject: Mayberry Days Tickets FOR SALE

Hello, everyone in Mayberry. Due to numerous personal obligations, my wife
and I will not be able to attend Mayberry Days this year. For the first time
in about 5 years we're going to miss out on all the fun and Mayberry
fellowship. I have some tickets I would like to get rid of if anyone is
interested.

Anyone wanting/needing tickets for Mayberry Days 2001, I have a deal. I have
2 tickets to each of the following events. Friday, Sept. 28 at 7:00 PM-The
Doug Dillard Band Concert (FRONT ROW-RIGHT) ($40), Friday, Sept. 28 at 9:30
PM-VW Boys Salute to Mayberry! ($10), Saturday, Sept. 29 at 5:00 PM-TAGSRWC
Dinner and Annual Meeting ($40), and Saturday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 PM-Colonel
Tim's Talent Time (FRONT ROW-LEFT) ($40).

I believe all shows are SOLD OUT and I'd like to get rid of all my tickets.
The total value of all is $130 but I will knock $10 off if one person would
buy the lot. In addition, I have reservations at the Comfort Inn in Mt. Airy
(its been a long time since I made my reservations, but I believe its a "king"
room) and I haven't cancelled yet. If someone needs a room (I'm sure all the
motels in Mt. Airy are probably booked by now) we could see about making
arrangements to have my reservation cancelled and replaced by the purchaser of
my tickets.

Anyone interested email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] I will let them go, first
come, first served.

In this and other recent postings, mention was made of several situations
concerning Floyd, the barber.

In Episode #9, the first time that Floyd, the barber, is introduced, the
character is portrayed by an actor named Walter Baldwin. Walter's physical
make-up and low-key manner was similar to that of Russell Hiatt, the City
Barber Shop's REAL barber that cut Andy Griffith's hair in his late teens
and when he came home from college to see his family in his REAL hometown
of Mount Airy, N.C.

It is generally accepted that the City Barber Shop in Mount Airy and it's
importance as a center of local interaction was the inspiration for
"Floyd's City Barber Shop" in "Mayberry." However, television being what is
is, it was decided, after that first episode, that a more eccentric
character was needed, and so Howard McNear's comedic talents took over the
part.

The use of Howard McNear after his stroke was Andy's idea - he felt that
Howard's intelligence and talent was still there despite his physical
problems. In looking at the episodes using Howard after the stroke, I
would have to say, that if we weren't aware of the situation, we would not
have noticed that he was always sitting, and used only one arm.

We owe a debt of gratitude to Andy for his compassion, and to the producers
of the show for their understanding that love and caring can result in good
for all. It was a Mayberry kind of thing!

I invite you all to come to "Mayberry Days" in Mount Airy to be held this
year from September 27th to 30th. I will be there to sign my new book that
gives more indepth information on how Andy's and my hometown influenced the
show. For more info on "Mayberry Days" log on to: www.visitmayberry.com

If you can't make Mayberry Days, you can order the book from Weavers in
September.

hey to all. just want to tell you that if you're looking for tags characters
in other shows, there's plenty in the old black and white maverick episodes.
when it comes to westerns, this is my favorite. don't know why we can't have
quality shows like we used to. tags even went so far as to worship God and
teach good morals. now days the new shows just make fun of Him. i don't watch
the new ones. i'll stick with tags and all the mayberry i can get.........bec
from texas...........boy, you can see everything from up here!

I was watching the episode where the man is recording the music of the
townspeople for a record album (quarter of a million dollars if it sold a
million records!). In one scene, he is recording a band in his hotel room.
The man playing the banjo looked like a Dillard. Am I right or am I just
"full of beans"?

P.S. Speaking of Fred Goss (sp?), I think he is one of the funniest minor

Ms. Langdon has been to several Mayberry events in the past few years and she
is very much alive and well. The last show I saw here at was last October in
Birmingham. You can check out photos of her (and other other cast members) at
the Mayberry Giants: "Hit one for the ol' Gober" Chapter website.
   http://www.angelfire.com/tv/hoftog/bham01.htm

She is a super nice lady and it's always been a pleasure to see her.

Her name is spelled Sue Ane Langdon....Ann with an "e" instead of the last "n".

Here are some sites I found about her and her career.

For those of you who live in the southeast and can get Chattanooga local
telivision, the local CBS station; Channel 12 started airing The Andy Griffith
Show yesterday. ( I meant to post this earlier-sorry!!) They are running all of
the shows in order. Yesterday at 5:00 was the first episode and at 7:00pm the
second. They will run the odd numbers at 5:00 and the even at 7:00. Soo if you
can get this it will be a great time to tape them all. I don't know about
epilogs but usually local stations don't run them.

I was watching our local station the other day, and
saw Nurse Mary from TAGS. She was in a commercial for
a medication for osteoarthritis, she was in a swimming
pool with a lot of other ladies taking an exercise
class. I know it was her even after all this time,
because of her smile. I believe she was the nurse
that tried to give Rafe Hollister his shot when he
didn't want it. I believe her stage name was Julie
???? Somebody help me out if you will.

Andy probably enjoys somewhat of a retirement, and
Ron is always working on movies. I love the way that
Ron Howard went on the Simpsons in a bathrobe as
well as when he & Andy appeared on SNL years ago, and
poked fun at their characters. It showed they were
real people, and are probably tired of answering
questions about Mayberry, Matlock, and Happy Days,
and being expected to live their lives like Andy,
Opie, Ben & Ritchie C.

I love Don Knotts character in "Pleasantville".
Shows the versatility of his acting abilities.

I remember watching a SNL several years ago where
William Shatner was at a Star Trek convention, and
told the "Trekkies" to "get a life, people, it was
only a television show!" I bust a gut when I see that
one, and it helps pull mahself up by the seat of my
own britches, and realize that these folks are actors,
have real lives, and owe me nothing as a fan,
including guest appearances, autographs, or even
saying hello on the street. They please me by
allowing me to watch their past performances. I
respect their privacy. Let them live in peace.
