For some reason, they weren't too fond of that title. That reminds me of something I've wondered about for years. There must be at least a few of our members who served in the US military during the years when Gomer Pyle - USMC originally aired. I'd like to know what you and your fellow service men/women thought of the show. Did you get a kick out of Gomer's goofy antics, or were you offended? Maybe it would depend upon which branch you served in. BTW, in the novel "Flight of the Intruder" (set during the Vietnam War) the American servicemen refer to the enemy as "the gomers." - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Aug 2001 15:53:42 -0500 From: "Kyle Cantrell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Howard McNear's Stroke >>Therefore, his first episode after the stroke would be "Back to Nature" at the end of season 4. Hope that answers the question. Thanks for the info, Dan. Actually, I think Howard McNear's first appearance after his stroke was in "Divorce, Mountain Style," which aired before "Back to Nature." In "Divorce," he's seen sitting on his porch as Barney tries to regain control of the horse he's riding as an antidote to Andy and Charlene's engagement. To me, his line, "Evening, Barney...you seem to be on a horse" is hilarious and classic post-stroke Floyd. This could be one of those "missing" scenes. I'm fortunate to have recorded the uncut version of this episode a few years ago. Name's Todd Estes from Birmingham, AL and am currently looking to launch a self-published comic (black and white, of course - the best years!) based on actual episodes. I'm lining up caricature artists for the series and they are great! The depictions are almost eerie! If anyone knows who I need to contact to get permission, discuss the legal rights, etc. could you please help me out. I am not looking to make money on this - just cover expenses and if anything is left over, donate that amount. I'm an investment manager and this is something I've been wanting to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and anyone interested in talking with me about this project, feel free to e-mail me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks everyone and let's hope this can get off the ground. - -Todd Estes _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Aug 2001 19:49:36 -0700 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: More Mayberry Sightings On today's Rawhide episode from 1962, Mayberry's own Jim Lindsey and Rowdy Yates (Clint Eastwood) were fighting over Susan Oliver, the beautiful prisoner who almost had the same effect on Andy and Barney. There was no loveable town drunk to interrupt them. Jim had a mean streak in him and ended up dead It was kinda cooky out on the cattle drive, but she enjoyed it. If there was gonna be one episode added to TAGS, who would you like to see added that hasn't ever been seen on the show? It has to be someone who has been mentioned on the show, but never made an appearance. For example, Juanita, Sarah, Blackey, Barney's father, et al. My new episode would include Juanita. I would like to see if she was prettier than Thelma Lou. Course, not that she was just Barney's, she's "everyone's Juanita."
