Jenny - the Dixie apple pie lover mentioned Opie being able to buy apple pie
at school. It made me think about school cafeteria food when I was a
young'un. The smell of that vegetable chowder still makes me sick at my
stomach. But - back in the horse and buggy days when I went to school (a
small exaggeration) the food was much more nourishing that what they serve
kids today - pizza, soyburgers (double YUK), tacos, french fries. I remember
we did have real MEAT (excuse me for yelling at the table), hot yeast rolls,
and veggies cooked by the lady in the hair net and don't forget the
applesauce on the side. I spent all my money on the Boston cream pie -
mmmmmmm - gooooooood. But the smell of that chowder was blaaaaagggghhhh.
Goober Linda - I'll take the special.

     Hey fellers,
I've been outside putting a new carburetor on my car. Sure didn't help
the looks of it much, though.

Just to add a footnote about Fred Lowery, I remember when I was a freshman
in high school we had an assembly. The person that entertained us that
afternoon I remember was very talented. He could whistle and make it sound
like there were two people on stage whistling. He then talked about a famous
piece of music that he whistled and started whistling the theme from TAGS.
This was in Williston North Dakota, 1974. Just a memory of mine that I
remembered. And yes he was blind. If there are any other people out there
that remember any of there assemblies while you were in school, this may have
been one of them. Remember the "Mayberry Knottieing Class" meets here on
Tuesday nights...................

Mayberry actors have lent their voices to cartoons.

Let's not forget when Don Knotts starred on the Scooby Doo episode!

Howdy, all.
Was anyone watching "Hardball with Chris Matthews" last night to hear the
TAGS reference? Apparently Matthews had comment about former Vice President
Al Gore's new beard, and a viewer wrote in that it made him think of the Andy
Griffith show episode where Goober once grew a beard. I won't go into the
rest of the comments because we don't talk politics but I just know the
viewer had to be a major TAGS fan because of the spot-on way he related the
two.

We are always hearing questions about the theme song for or wonderful show.
I received a letter in the mail just last week from Earle Hagen himself. I
had ask him some questions about the show's music. He said they changed the
music and variations probably over 100 times over the years of the show.
They wanted to keep the show different and appealing. I found that to be
interesting and just wanted to share.
