However, as some have pointed out, there are so many similarities between the fictional Mayberry and the real Mt. Airy that it's hard not to believe that the one was based on the other. My personal opinion is that Mr. Griffith was trying to say that there is no real Mayberry, so don't go to Mt. Airy thinking that it is Mayberry. But to me, it's obvious that there was some "borrowing" done. Bass) will be making his first trip to the event, as well as Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou).
