Gus the fireman from "Leave It to Beaver" is probably Burt Mustin's most
identifiable role. His second most is likely Judd from TAGS.

Shameless plug: an actual Real Audio soundbite of Don saying that is on my
"Classic Hollywood Squares Site," along with another one featuring Jim Nabors.

Subject: Mayberry question

Last night I was watching the episode where Opie wants
to win the metal. First, let me say there are many
good lessons to be learned from that one episode. I
hope my son grows up not wanting me to be disappointed
in him.

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you police types or
construction types out there could answer a question.
In the episode where Jimmy the Loaded goat is on the
loose we learn that the Mayor's office is upstairs,
above the jail. Would the Mayor not get hurt from
Barney's flying bullets in the ceiling or would
bullets not penetrate ceilings? It doesn't look to be
cement because of the sheetrock that falls on Barney's
head anytime he fires his gun.

Also, in the same Opie episode, could anyone tell me
where the crowd footage in Opie's dream came from?
Obviously it was a large event with military there
because you see a sailor. Would it possibly be
footage from an Olympic event?

Lots of luck to you and yours
Lisa

Can some one tell me the name of the painting hanging over the Taylor's
fireplace? I just noticed it and remembered it hanging in my Grandmother's
house years ago. Barb

This may be a stupid question, but could anyone tell me, please, if there is
a way to bid on silent auction items without actually attending Mayberry
Days? Are "phone-in" bids allowed?

Much obliged,

Days, but who, sadly, cannot return Sept. 27-29)

Burt played Gus the fireman in the early episodes of LITB (Another fine
show).

I KNEW I saw Beaver's principal elsewhere, but do you think I could place
IT? Thank you!

Q: Was the venerable character actress ever Reta Shaw ever in TAGS?

Subject: Another Mayberry Sighting

I saw 2 actors from TAGS on the same episode of "Leave It to Beaver"
today. One was Doris Packer, who played Mrs. Wiley on TAGS. She
played the principal of Beaver's school. The other was Burt Mustin, who
played Judd on TAGS. He played a fireman.

Just found out that the previously FREE viewing of TAGS episodes on
Liketelevision.com is NO MORE! It has turned into a pay-per-view service.
Seems to be the trend these days(sad!!). Wonder if any cast members get
royalties?? Hmm..

Hey everybody--and a special hey to our newest members. Listen, does anybody
happen to know in which episode Barney first referred to Andy as "Ang" (or
is it "Anj")?

Subject: Mayberry replicas in Knoxville, TN!

The "Mayberry" chapter in Knoxville, Tennessee will be supporting an
annual event this coming Saturday, Sept. 1 in South Knoxville. A
longtime resident of Knoxville has custom built several replica Mayberry
establishments in his back yard and will be opening them up to the public
this Saturday. He has replicas of Floyd's Barbershop, the Snappy Lunch,
Bluebird Diner, Wally's Service Station, Emmett's Fix-it Shop and Aunt
Bee's kitchen! He's also been working on a squad car and the Darling's
truck. He has gone to great detail to furnish these buildings with
authentic antiques and memorabilia from TAGS and the 1960s in general.
In addition his back porch will be a stage that will host live country
and bluegrass musicians throughout the day. The event is absolutely
FREE! It begins at 12:00 noon and lasts until midnight. However, folks
can come and go as they please throughout the day. The Mayberry chapter
will be setting up a table there to advertise both the national TAGSRWC
and our local chapter. So come on by and see firsthand some of Mayberry
here in Knoxville!

Here are directions:

Take exit 388 off I-40 (convention center exit) and bear left towards
Chapman Highway (Hwy 441). Pass by the
World's Fair site and go across the bridge. Continue on Chapman Highway
until you cross John Sevier Highway. Go one mile past John Sevier
Highway. Turn left at Hendrons Chapel Drive, go 4 miles, past Gap Creek
School. Take the first right past the school (Bays Mountain Road); it is
the first house on the left (2004 Bays Mountain Road).

Hope to see you there,

Chuck,
My guess would be: if you ever find the answer to the question of "What
causes itchy feet?", you will have answered one of the age-old questions
of life and will be well on the way to being able to answer why Web
browsers do the weird things they do! :0) Cu-u-u-rious! Cu-u-u-rious!
Aunt Bee from Modesto, CA
Jacquie Bauman (whose browser will sometimes straighten up and act
right if I clear out the Temporary Internet File, do a shut down, and restart
my computer. A similar thing happened to me today, and this worked.
It seems that it gets stuffed up and this is the computer's way of blowing
it's nose. Hope I don't offend anyone's delicate sensibilities by my use
of bodily function analogies!
