Dumb ol' me, I mashed that "delete" button without thinking and hadn't copied the pickle recipt that someone so kindly supplied three or four weeks ago. If not too much trouble, could someone email that to me at "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"? Also, a while back there was mention of the key change in the whistled theme song for TAGS, along with some speculation as to why it might have changed to a lower or higher key. If you'll listen carefully when watching back-to-back episodes (yes, some of us are that lucky) you'll notice that the higher key always introduces the show, and the lower key always ends it. There, I've said it, and I ain't takin' it back! This is the one where Andy and Barney help Bert Miller set up his stand. I was wondering if Sterling Holloway--the actor who played Bert was/is the voice of Winnie the Pooh? If not, he sure does sound like it! Since I have found this site I look forward to reading all the questions and comments. I truly feel like I have an extended family of AGS fans. I really enjoyed Miss Krumps quiz section. Not to brag but I got 72 of 75 questions right, I was rather proud of that. Well goodbye all I must go and watch an hour of TAGS on TV Land channel. Also I am a member of Hagans Heros the local AGSRWC here in Shreveport, La. Talk to ya'll soon Till then Andy says Hey! I have been watching "Leave It to Beaver" episodes lately since TV Land shows them right before TAGS. Prior to that, I don't think I had watched "Beaver" regularly since I was a kid and when I was a kid I didn't watch TAGS very often, so I am just now putting the two together. Lisa--I had been wondering the same thing myself about whether the bullets would have gone right through the ceiling into the mayor's office when Barney shot at the ceiling. I hope someone has an answer to that question. Dawn--I am also wondering if there is any way to bid on the silent auction items without being present in person. There are a few things I am interested in, but I am not able to make the trip to be there in person. Lance--In episode 74 "Convicts at Large", Reta Shaw played Big Maude Tyler, one of the 3 escaped female convicts. She also played Barney's voice teacher, Eleanora Poultice, in episode 116 "The Song Festers". Barb--The painting over the fireplace showing a man and woman in a field is called "The Angelus". A print of it is available at Weaver's on the TAGSRWC website. Jeff--Yes, Aunt Bee did show off the mink coat she won on the TV quiz show at the beauty shop on a hot day. I believe that the episode is called "Aunt Bee on TV". Boy, I sure am worn out from all that responding. I think I'll go home, take a nap, and go over to Thelma Lou's later and watch a little TV. In the story told on the show, he explains that he hurt it while "bringing in" the four criminals who occupy the cells. I had never heard whether the cast was real or just a prop, but there was an explanation given tonight before "County Nurse" aired. The narrator said that the cast was authentic and was on his hand because Andy Griffith lost his temper and punched a wall. Does anyone have any additional information on what the wall may have done to incite Andy's wrath? It doesn't look to be cement because of > the sheetrock that falls on Barney's head anytime >he fires his gun. Well now, let me see if I can't answer this one. I'm not any kind of construction guru, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn last night. (Sorry, love those commercials). My guess would be, working backwards, is that the ceiling is possibly a hung celin' or false ceilin'. When the building was built, since the bottom part had plans for a jail, my guess is that the engineers had to make it strong. So I'm guessin' that steel I-Beams make up the ceiling for the first story and support the floor for the second story. Once the I-Beams were in place some type of metal pan was laid on top of them to form the foundation for the concrete pad to be the floor of the second story. Since the I-Beams weren't considered proper decoration a false ceiling had to be hung. Also, think of the idea of a wood ceiling in the jail cells. Prisoners could very easily cut through the ceiling and escape by cutting through to the second story. They could easily use a wood burning kit also to burn the building down. I know the metal craft kit done just as good. But the wood burning would be more effective than the Mr. Potato Head in an escape attempt, I believe. Now there's also the possibility that Andy supplied Barney with a low-grain bullett. Something so that he couldn't shoot himself with. One that wasn't powerful enough to go through wood. Dawn, you are not the first person to ask that and I'm glad you wrote the digest about it. There are a couple ways to approach it, but I think the best way is see if we can get a volunteer who will be there to bid on your behalf. This agent will know your maximum bid and can bid accordingly. Last year someone posted to the digest and graciously offered to help in that capacity. If no one is able to offer that this year, you can write the Surry Arts Council (SAC) with your high bid amount and I will ask one of the "fair and impartial" auction helpers to bid for you. In order to keep things simple and benefit WBMUTBB, I will only offer sealed proxy bids to chapter members (not much of a club if you let everyone join). Please send the following information to SAC by September 24th: Item Description Maximum Bid Name Mailing Address Phone Number Email Address Mail to: Surry Arts Council WMBUTBB Silent Auction Andy Griffith Playhouse P.O. Box 141 Mount Airy, NC 27030 Please understand they are EXTREMELY busy preparing for the event and will be unable to take bid information over the phone, so only written requests can be accepted. Also, I will ask that you be willing to pay for postage and any requested insurance (we'll treat the rest like air & water ? no charge). There are some very nice items in the auction this year and I have updated the auction page at www.surryarts.org/MayberryDays/auction.htm with new photos, including the Mayberry Quilt and the Opie the Birdman Script. I hope more of you will consider donating something or helping on Saturday to participate in our service project. Email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] with any questions. Thanks!
