Subject: A Mayberry joke

Sheriff Andy of Mayberry was looking for a deputy, so Barney - who wasn't
exactly the sharpest nail in the bucket - went in to try out for the job.

"Okay, Barney," Andy drawled, "what is 1 and 1?" "11," Barney replied.
Andy thought to himself, "that's not what I meant, but he's right." He then
asked Barney, "Okay, what two days of the week start with the letter "T'?"
"Today and tomorrow," Barney answered.

Again, Andy was surprised that Barney supplied a correct answer that he had
never thought of himself. "Now Barney, listen carefully: Who killed Abraham
Lincoln?" Barney looked a little discombobulated, then thought really hard
for a minute and finally admitted, "I don't know." Well, why don't you go
home and work on that one for a while?" Andy said.

So, Barney wandered over to Floyd's Barbershop where the others were waiting
to hear the results of the interview. Barney was exultant. "It went great!
First day on the job and I'm already working on a murder case!"

I've often wondered that myself. My first guess is that it's probably from
an old baseball film, such as "Pride of the Yankees" or something along
those lines. Maybe there's a baseball buff in the chapter who has a
collection of those old movies?

someone has posted on the digest,.. I get an error message? Paul Mulik's
link to the HOLLYWOOD SQUARES Q&A page would not work when clicked from
the digest. However, when I copied and pasted it into my browser's address
window,..it worked.

Sometimes, what happens is the link gets cut into two or more parts,
depending on the size of your window. If part of it "wraps down" to the
next line and you click on the first part, you browser may ignore the last
part. It usually works better to cut and paste.

The paintings changed from episode to episode, but the one you are probably
thinking of is "The Angelus, 1859" by Jean Francois Millet. It shows a man
in woman standing in a field, with their heads bowed. You can buy a print
of it at Weaver's (www.mayberry.com).

There's another painting that pops up in several episodes that I've yet to
identify precisely. It's a picture of a big dog.

Subject: 117 Days till Christmas.....a GREAT Idea!

That's right, only 117 days till Christmas.
Less than that to get to watch "Cartoon Andy"
sing "Frosty the Snowman" !
We "Mayberry Citizens" are unique in that
we carry that wholesome feeling year round.
That same feeling Andy was talking about
when he traded Eagle-Eye Annie to the Mayor
for Aunt Bee's Bedjacket.

I have a chapter idea,
Let me know what you think......

If any members' families want to exchange gifts
among other members, whether you're a family
of 1 to 100. Doesn't have to be expensive,
or even Mayberry related, BUT the gift must
be carrying that "Mayberry Spirit".
Whether homemade pickles or marmalade,
or quilt, or new White Bible... you get my point.

If you are interested, please drop me a line,
I can gather the names of the families,
I'll write everyone's names down on a
notebook paper and everyone's name on a piece
of paper and draw accordingly. I'll send
everyone via email the name and address of
the family they were pulled for, and then
the family sends a gift to the family they
received. Like "Secret Santa", but with knowing
who sent the gift to your family.

I think this is a good thing to get us members
closer and make us feel that "Christmas in Mayberry"
feeling.

Whatdya'll think ?
Let me know.

I'm looking for information on Jack Prince, aka Rafe Hollister & Ben Sewell.
As part of our Mayberry Bible Study, I'm looking for personal background
information on the actors who were part of TAGS.

I know that Jack Prince was a featured vocalist on Johnny Carson's
pre-Tonight Show variety show that was on in the mid 50's, and I know he did
TAGS. Was he in any other movies or television that anyone is aware of?
Also, did he record any albums?

Thanks for your help on this.

That's him all right, Sterling Holloway was the original voice of Winnie the
Pooh. Hal Smith (Otis) was Pooh for a while, and Jim Cummings does Pooh's
voice now. Hal Smith also did Owl's voice in some Pooh films. Other TAGS
actors who have worked on Winnie the Pooh films include Howard Morris
(Ernest T.) as Gopher, Clint Howard (Leon) as Roo, as Laurie Main
(illustrator for Helen's book) as the narrator.

Mr. Holloway did several other Disney voices, including the Cheshire Cat in
"Alice in Wonderland," Kaa the snake in "The Jungle Book," Roquefort the
mouse in "The Aristocats" and Mr. Stork in "Dumbo."

>>>

I checked with a friend of mine who is a doctor, and he said there's no such
thing as "versitus." Apparently, "versitus" is a corrupted form of the
word "bursitis," which is an actual medical condition.

Bursitus: inflammation of a bursa, especially in the shoulder, elbow, or
knee joint.

Bursa: a sac or saclike bodily cavity, especially one containing a viscous
lubricating fluid and located between a tendon and a bone or at points of
friction between moving structures. (source: www.dictionary.com)

Isn't it odd how some diseases seem to require the word "the" in front of
them? For example, nobody ever says "I have flu" or "he has mumps," it's
always "the flu" or "the mumps." I wonder what causes THAT?

He may have had one, but it was never used in any episode. We learn Andy's
and Barney's middle names (in the episode "Class Reunion," et al) but off
the top of my head I don't think any other main character's middle name is
ever mentioned, except for Thelma Lou (but we don't know her LAST name, and
no, Ellie Walker's middle name was never given in any episode).

Jennifer,
Yes, the amazing Sterling Holloway was the voice of the "Disney" Pooh. He
was also the voice of Cheshire Cat in Disney's "Alice in Wonderland," Kaa
the snake in Disney's "Jungle Book" and Roquefort the mouse in Disney's
"Aristocats." Probably some others, too.

Yes, He was the voice of Winnie the pooh. I think the narrator may have
mentioned that before the show. H also played the professor who made all

of hisinventions waswhen he invented a time machine and sent Jimmy Lois and
the chief and Superman back to 1 million bc.
