Ramona's last name was Ancrum. It was mentioned on the show.

I did the same thing growing up. I called my aunts and uncles by their first
names without the Aunt or Uncle, and people I knew well from church or other
friends of my parents, I called by their first names, too. (I guess it is a WV
thing, too!) Now at our current church, most of us - children and adults -
call some of the ladies "Miss" and then their first name. When I was growing
up, one of my best friends would always call my parents and other adults Mr. or
Mrs., even when they told her that she was welcome to call them by their first
names. Her mom and grandmother raised her that way, and she still addresses
people older than her that
way. I never even thought about calling people I was familiar with by a title
with their names until I knew her, but it does show a lot of respect, even
though we never meant disrespect to people by not doing it. I guess Opie was
allowed to call male friends of his dad's by their first names. But didn't he
call Clara "Miss Clara" or "Mrs. Johnson"?

Subject: That Lucy visits Andy idea

Back a few weeks ago someone mentioned a Fan Fiction story where Lucy would
pass through Mayberry.
I have been intrigued by that, and thought about putting something together
whenever I get time to do more Fan Fiction stories. (I know I know not
everyone likes Fan Fiction).

But I saw a recent Lucy episode that was really pretty close (and there is a
TAGS connection here, so stay with me). Lucy Ricky Fred and Ethel were
traveling (I believe through Tennessee)
and indeed they get stopped for speeding. The arresting officer was none
other that Ole Ben Weaver (actually Will Wright) from the Christmas and
Scobies Foreclosure episode.

When they get to the jail, he takes off his jacket and changes from the
arresting officer to the presiding sheriff (sound familiar--Sheriff and
Justice of the Peace). This particular episode also features Tennessee
Ernie Ford, who like Andy Griffith began his career in both Music and
Comedy. Quite a treat...and Ben was a good Sheriff.

Wonder whatever became of that great map behind Andy's desk or that great
poster in Floyd's barber shop?
Just wondered. Wouldn't you just love to have those?!

Are you gonna get obtuse?

I don't want to be pushy or nothin',and maybe it is a
NC thing, but I've always been in SC and my Daddy
would've tanned my backside if I'd ever called an
adult by their first name, relative or not.It was
always Mr. or Mizzzzzzzz so and so or if they were
close friends then they were referred to as Aunt or
Uncle ,whether they was "blood kin" or not.My neighbor
has been "Aunt"Berta for all of my 45 years and I
wouldn't think of calling her by her first name
only.Love Opie,but my Daddy'd have given him a
talkin'to for that.Anyway, the other day I was reading
an article in our little town paper and they referred
to a man in a nearby town that runs a produce stand
named Otis Campbell.Well,I'm easily amused so I
thought that was neat.
Hey to you and yours........fifechick

This is one of my favorites too, just love watching
Barney and all the problems he has getting that horse
to go in the right direction.Anyway, the thing with the
horse canceled ou the divorce proceedings so Dud and
Charlene were still married.

Hi - Thanks to all the WBMUTBB members who said "Hey" to me at Mayberry
Days! And a special "thank ya" to all those who bought copies of my new
book. (Could it have been because your picture from the 2000 Mayberry Days
was in it?) There was a record turnout and nobody seemed to mind that
Ernest T. was throwing rocks at everybody. (Eat your heart out Charlene! -
I got a mountain bear hug from Ernest T. when we were both signing
autographs at the Oak Emporium on Friday!)

For the rest of you who didn't have the joy of joining us in Mount Airy the
last weekend in September, the book is now available at Weaver's online.
If you want a good idea of what this "tell all" book is about, check out my
website at: www.memoriesofmayberry.com. - Then click on to Weaver's and
order it. (Bet you didn't know that in the "Return to Mayberry" TV
special, when they referred to Sheriff Patterson having died and both
Barney and Andy were considering running for the job - they were using the
name of the REAL Sheriff of Andy's youth in Mount Airy. Read all about him
in Chapter Two of the book - he was definitely as colorful as any of the
fictional characters on TAGS.)

We'd 'preciate it!

Her name was Ramona Ancrum. She is the granddaughter of "Rotten Ray" Ancrum.
In 1870, he came down out of the hills and burned the town of Mayberry down.
He then started the Ancrum Charcoal Company. This is all explained in the
epilogue of the episode.

Howdy ya'll- Anyone know which episode has Andy and Helen neckin' on the
couch, while Barney is on the other couch getting nervous? I checked the
episode guide but couldn't narrow the search; maybe it wasn't Helen?

>>>Not at all. Andy was there and seemed to approve. Floyd,....I mean Mr.
Lawson, was tight with the Taylor
family....

It appears to me that Opie just addresses everyone in town the same way his
father does. If Andy says "Floyd" (instead of "Mr. Lawson,") then Opie says
"Floyd." If Andy says "Miss Edwards," (not "Clara") then Opie says "Miss
Edwards."

Generally, Andy address all of his friends, and every Mayberryite younger
than he, by their first name. He normally addresses older citizens by their
last name (preceded of course with the appropriate title: Mr., Miss,
Reverend, etc.)

>>>Hey yall, does anyone know how acurate the TV SETS Book of the map of
Mayberry is?

Generally speaking, it's pretty accurate, but many details are impossible to
nail down precisely because things changed from episode to episode. There's
also a pretty good map in the book "Mayberry, My Hometown."

>>>Anyway, does anyone know if Don Knotts is truly allergic to horsehair or
was that an act? If it was
an act, he did a great job.

Probably not, since he worked with horses in "The Shakiest Gun in the West"
and the two "Apple Dumpling Gang" films.

>>>Also, I wanted to know if Charlene got divorced, when did she and Dud
remarry? The next time we see Charlene and Dud getting married, they are
only in front of a preacher to please Ernest T.

The divorce never did "go through." The episode with the preacher (#94,
Mountain Wedding) came BEFORE the divorce episode.

In the south, many children call the elders Mr. and Miss while using their
first name. It is very respectful. For example, you may call your Sunday
School teacher Miss Patricia or Mr. Don if he is a man. Of course, you still
call your school teacher by their last name, never by the first name. Using
Mr. Floyd would not have been disrespectful at all. My boys, while growing up
mostly in Alabama, called several people by that name. My secretary name was
Cathy, so they called her Miss Cathy, even though she was married. I hope
this helps................

only one I know who Opie calls by their last names is
Mrs.Edwards& Mrs. Crump...
