Ditto from here in Chicago, it was Mr. or Mrs. and nothing else until you
grew up, then first names were O.K., but by that time you just couldn't
change. I'm 45 and still address old neighbors as Mr & Mrs so and so.

Something's just occurred to me while watching the episode in which Dud and
Charlene get a temporary divorce - other than that one episode has divorce
ever been mentioned on TAGS? There's been the single folk, which there seems
to be more than the average, and the widows(ers) but no divorcees.
The best to you n' yours.

I don't know if divorce was ever mentioned any other time, but does anyone
know where I could get the beck of an owl? Just might come in handy!

In "Opie's Fortune," we learn Lorraine and Howard Felcher are about to be
divorced. Barney picks up this tidbit in the gossip column of the Mayberry
Gazette.

>>>I noticed when I watched Return To Mayberry the town of Mayberry looked

Return to Mayberry was filmed in a real town -- Los Olivos, CA to be
precise. It looks nothing at all like Mayberry, but it would have been VERY
expensive to recreate the entire Mayberry backlot. The original lot, which
was named 40 Acres, was bulldozed years ago, shortly after Mayberry RFD was
cancelled.

In RTM, the set designers did a pretty good job with the courthouse
interior, but that's about the only place in the entire movie that looked
even remotely familiar.

I Think the folks at columbia house have been to the Morrison
sisters, with Otis for national potato week
cause my last tape "Mayberry Classics" listed on the back
The Christmas Story,
Ernest T. Bass joins the Army
Dinner at eight
The Education of Ernest T. Bass

and when I viewed it, I saw

Ernest T. bass joins the Army airdate Dec. 19, 1960
It actually aired Oct. 14, 1963 I think, at least it said that on the
back cover.

Malcolm at the cross roads
Dinner at eight
Education of Ernest T. Bass

They should have put one more ETB episode instead of Dinner at eight and
jest called it Ernest T. Bass.

I jest wonder iffin maybe this has something to do with
Usama Bin Laden and his terroristical band of rogues?

Makes you wonder.

I was wondering about the musical group who plays the Darlings on tags. Who
are they and is their music around today. They were very good and on the show
did they ever smile. I know Brisco and Darlene did but not for sure of the
rest of the group.

Hi Mark,

The original series was filmed on the Forty Acres backlot in Culver City, CA
which was destroyed in the mid 70's. Return to Mayberry was filmed in and
around Los Olivos, CA.

>>>Periodically I will see an episode with a scene at the beginning or end
that I'd never seen before. I assume it has something to do with
advertising or something. Is there anywhere a body can get copies of
complete shows ?

Nearly all TV stations, TVLand included, cut out 3 or 4 minutes of every
episode so they can show more commercials. Don't bother contacting the
stations to complain - members have done this for YEARS, but the people in
charge simply DO NOT CARE. There, I said it and I ain't takin' it back!

For complete episodes, your best bet is to buy the TAGS VHS tapes currently
being offered by Columbia House. At $20 apiece they are not cheap, but they
are worth every penny. If you've got the cash to swing it, you can order
all of them at once and save some money on the shipping costs. The quality
of the tapes is excellent, and as far as I can tell the episodes are all
100% complete. So far 60 episodes are available, but Columbia House has
informed me that if the tapes continue to sell well, they may eventually
release all 249. Go to www.columbiahouse.com for more info. They offer
LOTS of other classic TV shows besides TAGS. I'm also getting the Looney
Tunes tapes (of course that's not a TV show, but they're listed in the TV
category).

The Darlings were played by a band called "The Dillards" and you'll find a
nice CD or two of their music at:

Weaver's Department Store
  http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/weavers/

Just go to Weaver's and look for the "Music" link and you'll find all kinds
of Mayberry Music.

Yeah, once on "Dragnet," Sgt. Friday slapped the cuffs on a cat burglar
played by Judd himself...Burt Mustin. There are probably more but I just
can't think of them this minute.

Yes, Paul. I got the tape you mentioned, and it too had the "Thelma Lou"
label on it. But it came in the correct box, which was labeled "Opie Grows
Up". Looks like Newton Monroe has started working for Columbia House, huh?

Thanks everyone for the correction on Ramona's last name. I haven't seen
the epilogue for that show either. I have noticed on the TVLand reruns,
though, that when they do show the epilogue, they cut part of the show.
Happens every time. I also noticed that on the Gold Truck episode when
Rance Howard (and the other actor(s)) sit down they don't have their hats
on. When Opie comes in (and the camera pans by them), they DO have their
hats on. Then when Andy comes in, the hats are off again. Probably because
of the one-camera show limitations.

I really enjoyed seeing all of the squad cars at Mayberry Days this year.
Does anyone know if any of the original squad cars used on the show over the
years still exist and if so where are they now?

I would also like to know if anyone knows if anyone has ever built a home to
resemble the Taylor home with it's great for sitting front porch? I saw a
copy of the floor plan in a book one time that had floor plans of T.V.
Families homes, but I am curious if anyone has ever tried to duplicate that
home and if so where?

hey all-while watching the 5:30 so-called inferior color ange on WGN/Chicago
this morning , i saw none other than Millie Helper(the Petries next door
neighbor, played by Ann Morgan Guilbert),in the role of Ellen, Aunt Bee's
young friend and society reporter for the Mayberry Gazette. She gets the
scoop on Bee's party for her long unseen cousin of failed big ventures,
Bradford J. Taylor.
then, later in the day, during "My Three Sons" whom should appear, but, our
own Betty Lynn(Thelma Lou) playing Steve Douglas'secretary, and in the
doghouse with her boyfriend.
and , on this same lucky day, i saw Howard Sprague's henpecking mom(Mabel
Anderson) as Darrin Stevens overbearing mother on "Bewitched"!!
all this goes to show you that quality knows quality , and indeed
it'sthe"actor of the man" (or in these cases, the woman)that made all the
supporting and regular actors of TAGS such special characters in all our
hearts.
Best to your and yours, and hey to goober,Tom Silbey (i used to sign as Jubal
Foster but i had forgotten just how plain mean he was and he beat everything,
ya know that!)

This is for nbrown333. I could be wrong, but I think that episode, where
Andy was "necking" was with Ellie Walker. I think it was episode 22 (Cyrno
Andy). It goes something like this...Ellie and Andy are sitting on the
couch, the lights go off and they're (Andy and Ellie are making out). The
lights go back on and Barney is on one side of the couch and Thelma Lou is on
the other side. I guess Barney wasn't so "swave" (suave) back then like
Gomer would say! Well, anyway, then Andy goes tell Thelma Lou how much
Barney likes her, and she turns the situation around to make Ol' Barn
jealous. Like I said I could be wrong, but it's the only episode, that I
could think of that Andy would be necking in front of Barney. Thanks,
Charlene
