Dear Mr. Schwump,

I can't recall what mistake you made, but I just want you to know, I forgive
you. And I'll tell you something else: I love one of you better
than one thousand of those know-it-alls who never make a mistake. They don't
need my love; heck, the whole world adores them. But I'm here for
you, Mr. Schwump and the others just like you.

In fact, I'm all teared up over your humbleness. Humbleness does that to me.
I'm just a humble store clerk and gold truck receiver gal myself
(without much success, I might add) and in this age when people try to be
better than they really are in the false belief they are impressing
someone else who is also trying to impress them right back, well, your
unvarnished simple truth just shone through like something beautiful.
Isn't it silly the way we try to impress people when often what is real
about us is so very much more attractive, if we could just believe that?

And besides, I am always, and I do mean always, messing things up too!
I can use the company. Messing up on the "Digest" is funny and a laugh
always brings down the blood pressure. I mean, face it people, we
aren't getting paid for our insights and no one is going to jail if others
disagree with them. So everyone should feel free to share and if
you make a mistake, big deal! You're in good company!!!

So let all us messer-uppers stand up straight, and say it loud and clear,
"I was wrong and I ain't ashamed to admit it."
Now, don't that feel good?

Laura Lee Hobbs, dime store clerk & gold truck receiver gal, and messer-
upper extraordinaire

"What a dumb trick! Barney, don't you ever call me dumb again. Nice party.
But what a dumb trick." Gomer to Barney when he messed up Andy &
Helen's engagement (We may be dumb, but I bet none of us messes up as often
as our Barney.)

No known recorded bloopers or outtakes are known to survive. The bloopers
referred to are writers' inconsistencies such as Barney's middle name, etc. I
purchased one of these hoping for a video blooper but got those instead.

The Visitor's Center, Snappy Lunch, Floyd's City Barbershop, Downtown Cinema,
and Mount Airy Regional History Museum are all well worth the visit to Mount
Airy. You may also want to see Andy's homeplace on East Haymore St.

The museum is constantly adding exhibits and from the top of the clock tower
you can get a bird's eye view of downtown Mt Airy.

You will also want to visit the Main & Oak Emporium on City Hall St. next to
the Old Mayberry Jail where the '62 Mayberry squad car is parked. On the third
floor of the Emporium is Weaver's Dept Store where you will find an incredible
amount of TAGS items for sale.

One correction on Kasko's - it's no longer there. That location on Market St
in now home of the Mayberry Cab Co.

My wife and I love Mt Airy. We visit about every six weeks just to enjoy the
kindness of the Mount Airy folks. We hope to one day call it our home. Hope
you have a great time!

this would'nt be the easy task in the world....

It might be a little bit harder still; there are 249 episodes, not 241.

Subject: Bloopers?

>>>There's a DVD for sale on ebay that is a DVD, the description of which
includes ... bloopers from the filming of the show ... Are there really
recorded bloopers of the show????
>>>

I have not seen this DVD, but I'll bet when they say "bloopers" they are not
talking about outtakes, but rather someone's comments about inconsistencies
within the episodes. Sort of like when someone here wonders why the Taylor
house has a guest bedroom in some episodes but not in others. This could be
considered a "blooper" in one sense of the word.

No outtakes (film clips of the actors flubbing their lines) from TAGS are
known to exist. My guess is that Andy, being a perfectionist, took steps to
make certain that all were destroyed. Some entertainers, including Andy,
would be very embarrassed to have their mistakes seen by the public.
Another example is Leonard Nimoy -- when Gene
Roddenberry began showing outtakes from Star Trek at conventions, Nimoy was
furious.

There are, however, outtakes from Gomer Pyle - USMC. Jim Nabors always
shows about ten minutes' worth during all of his concerts (at least, he has
done so every time I've seen him perform).

I thought Barny was only aloud one bullet for his gun and if he shot it off
accidently from showing off, Andy took his gun. One day while watching tags,
Andy and Barny were on Andy's front porch when Barny fired his gun. Andy took
the gun from Barn and emptied the rest out of the chamber. I always thought it
so funny that he was only aloud one bullet in the first place.

Hey,

My name is Jason, a lifelong Andy fan from Durham, NC. My devotion to
things Mayberry usually earns me nothing but blank stares from my friends
and rolls of the eyes from my family, so I'm glad to find this group online
(I just joined the digest version). Well, talk to y'all later.

Best regards,

Subject: Halloween & Mayberry O Lanterns

Want to give a big thanks to Paul Mulik for providing
the patterns to make our own Jack O'Lanterns have a
touch of Mayberry. A couple of weeks ago, I decided
to give it a whirl. I downloaded the Floyd pattern
and the Barney pattern. I decided that Floyd might be
the easier of the two, and set out to try my best. An
hour later, my Floyd O'Lantern was finished. I tell
ya, it was a pain in the wrist. Who'd ever thought
carvin' a pumpkin could be so much like work. Bein'
an amateur pumpkin carver, the only major mistake I
made was cuttin' off one of Floyd's eyebrows. But you
couldn't really tell it if you didn't pay close
attention. The pumpkin lasted me about 3 days before
it started to dry up, but it was worth it. I meant to
try the Barney pattern on Monday, so it would still be
fresh by Wednesday, but I got too covered up.
Reverend Tucker would be disappointed in me.

I did get to watch the Remshaw house ep Wednesday
morning, so all's not lost. Lookin' forward now to
Thanksgiving and Christmas. Ready to get my Christmas
tree out and put up all my Mayberry ornaments.

Subject: Special Surry Arts Council Presentation

I just received the press release (the official verification) about a
special presentation with a TAGS connection...

For Immediate Release:
Howard Morris and Betty Lynn, better known as Ernest T and Thelma Lou from
The Andy Griffith Show will give a Valentine dinner performance of A.R.
Gurney?s "Love Letters" at Cross Creek Country Club, Mount Airy, N.C.,
Saturday, Feb. 9, at 8 p.m.

Love Letters is a romantic story of pen pals for life who share letters
throughout the years, eventually meeting and building upon their friendship.
Time takes them from friends to lovers, but eventually their lives take them
in opposite directions.

This special performance of Love Letters is sponsored by the Surry Arts
Council. Tickets are $30 per person. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and dinner
will be served at 7 p.m. Reservations are required because seating is
limited.

Betty Lynn starred in 26 episodes of The Andy Griffith Show as a part of her
long acting career on stage, film and television. Although Howard Morris
only appeared on The Andy Griffith Show during five episodes, he is
remembered as the rock-throwing Ernest T Bass. Morris is also a celebrated
writer, director and producer.

For more information or for tickets, contact the Surry Arts Council at
336-786-7998 or 800-286-6193 or visit www.surryarts.org. For a free visitor
packet to Mount Airy, call 800-948-0949 or log onto www.visitmayberry.com.

Pretty exciting news! Tickets have only recently gone on sale, so excellent
seats are available. One thing not mentioned above are VIP seats at the
stage. These seats are $50 each.

Mount Airy is always a nice place to visit. Things will be much different
during this February weekend than from Mayberry Days - a much slower pace,
no big crowds, and a shorter line at Snappy Lunch! I know there are WMBUTBB
friends who will be attending and I hope to see you there.
