Someone asked about trick or treat references in TAGS. I can only think of one
episode ("The Inspector") when it's mentioned. Opie brings Andy a fishing hat
and polka dot tie to the jail so the Sheriff would be in uniform (Barney's
idea) not "Trick or Treat" as Barney says when he sees Andy in the get up. What
other holidays are mentioned on the show? I know there is one Christmas
episode and if we include "Alcohol and Old Lace" there are quite a few (unless
we stick with "legally recognized" holidays).

"No one has correctly answered my question yet about the episode with
"trick or treat outfits" reference."

OK, my guess is the episode "Mayberry Goes Hollywood"

At the end of the show the guy from Hollywood tells everyone to "get out
of those Trick or Treat outfits" and the Mayor echoes it.

Alan, Sorry, I did not realize the TV SETS book was available at Weavers. I
thought I had looked there but must have missed it. I did think in my mind
that it should be there. Definately everybody, this is a neat book, buy it!
Buy it from Weaver's and you can save 95 cents over the price elsewheres!
Give it as a Christmas gift and you will be a hit with all your friends and
family no matter what old show they are a fan of.

I think my message from 11/6 got lost in the ether, so I'm re-submitting it.
Forgive me if it's repetitive or out of date.
***************
Of course, "Alaska" is mentioned in the episode where Barney and Andy visit
the men's fellowship lodge. During their "rush" dinner, Baked Alaska is
served, at which time Barney let Ange know that Baked Alaska is "that new
dessert that come out since it became a state." Cracks me up.

As for some other potential references to states/cities, didn't Col. Harvey
(of Col. Harvey's Elixir) mention the various places he had visited ("Aunt
Bee's Medicine Man" ep)? I think he mentioned to Aunt Bee about "dining in
the finest restaurants in New Orleans." Another idea: in "Andy Discovers
America" did Andy mention any of the original colonies when telling the boys
the story of Paul Revere? I guess I'm askin' instead of answerin' the
trivia question! (Wonder what causes that?)

Subject: TAGS actors appearing together on other shows
Date: Fri, 16 Nov 2001 09:58:37 -0600

A while back, there was some discussion on other shows that had two or more
TAGS actors appearing in them. There were hundreds, but they didn't always
appear together on both TAGS and the other show (i.e., James Best and Denver
Pyle were both in the Dukes of Hazzard, but did not appear together on
TAGS). My question is, how many situations can you name where two actors
appeared in the same episode of TAGS and the same two appeared in the same
episode of another show?

I've got two to get the ball rolling:

1. Ron Howard and Jack Dodson appeared together many times on TAGS and also
appeared together on a Happy Days episode where Jack Dodson played Ralph
Malph's father (a dentist).

2. George Lindsey and Jamie Farr appeared together on episode #183 "The
Gypsys", and also appeared together in a M*A*S*H episode, "Temporary Duty",
where George appeared as a visiting surgeon, Capt. Roy DuPree, an Arkansas
native ("Go Hogs...Soooooooooooooooey!").

Can you think of others?

Goober once mentioned the city of Jasper during one of the color episodes.
He never said what state it was located in, leading viewers to believe it was
probably NC, but it was obviously a reference to George Lindsey's real life
hometown of Jasper, Alabama. That's the only Alabama reference I ever
remember seeing or hearing...

Since nobody has answered Joe's question yet, I'll take a stab.

"No one has correctly answered my question yet about the episode with "trick
or treat outfits" reference."

How about Episode #13 Mayberry Goes Hollywood. Mr. Harmon asks the town to
get out of those trick-or-treat outfits, which is immediately echoed by
Mayer Pike.

Subject: The 1995 Anniversary Show on TBS

In 1995, TAGS celebrated it's 35th anniversary. To celebrate this, WGN
and TBS each had their own mini-marathon. WGN showed four episodes in
their prime time slot of 7:00pm to 9:00pm on October 3rd. TBS showed
several episodes with clips of the 1995 Mayberry days in between
episodes. This mini-marathon started around 6:00 or 7:00 and ran until
about 4:00 in the morning.
My question is this: Did anyone happen to record the TBS special? I got
about half of it, as it had started before I got home that night. If
not, no big deal. Thanks for your help.

Does anyone know what day Sir Walter Raleigh first landed in Virginia?
Today's the day!
Happy Sir Walter Raleigh landing day!

Hopefuly this email will look 100% normal to all of us. If it does, it means
we have the HTML problem beat!!

For those that don't know what that means and would like to know (the rest of
you...skip this one), it means you won't see all the garbage that sometimes
shows up in the Digest that you can't really read. Keep your fingers
crossed!!!

Hello Allan.......

I don't know if this is proper or not for the Digest. You please decide.

This evening Barbara Taglibue called me to say her husband Robert passed away
this morning. He had back surgery on the 8th and his heart gave out today.

Robert and Barbara came to Michigan this summer to visit relatives and we
made arrangements to meet in person. He was a great TAGS fan and had a
wonderful sense of humor. Where he lived in New Jersey they didn't have snow
like we do here in Michigan. He was always telling me to put on my bucket and
figure out how to send him some snow. I'll miss him.

Hi, I was watching the one episode where Barney come back to the high school
reunion, and I started thinking....what was Barney's last episode, and did
they try to fade him out, and start talking about his leaving in shows
previous to his leaving, like they do on some shows. I don't remember any
episodes that come to mind. And when is it going to be a TAGS fandemonium
weekend on TV Land, they had the Beverly Hillbillies, like two (2)
fandemonium weekends within two months of each other, every weekend I look,
but to no avail! You know Nettie you look better as a blonde! Thanks,
Charlene
