To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

>>> ... we have wanted to go to a restaurant we glimpsed while visiting a
large city in Oklahoma. We finally got to visit that city this week end so
we decided to go to that little diner with the Mayberry name ... it was a
bad experience. They had used photos of TAGS friends and characters on
their menus; they even had a few photos in frames on the walls. Very FEW.
>>>

I think I know the very place you're talking about. The place I visited was
decorated with pictures clipped right out of The Mayberry Collection's
catalog, stuck on the wall with scotch tape! The pictures in the menu were
taken from the catalog too.

I suppose as long as a place wants to call itself the "Mayberry"
something-or-other, there's no legal reason why they couldn't. I have
friends whose last name is Mayberry, so naturally they named their business
Mayberry Construction - no harm in that. Now, if someone were to name their
business something like "Barney Fife's Cafe" or "The Andy Griffith Show
Coffee Shop," then that might violate copyright laws.

Subject: Alabama reference - on to the C's
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

>>>I think they were having a tractor show there....

That's the Alabama reference I was thinking of; it's in "Andy's Rival."
Andy and Goober are trying to decide what to do, when Goober suggests they
go over to Jasper to look at some new tractors. This is a reference to
George Lindsey's hometown, Jasper, Alabama. Another Alabama reference is
Mobile, mentioned as the subject of one of Keevy Hazelton's songs -- thanks
Kevin, I had forgotten about that one.

Now for Arizona: It seems like Opie or someone mentions the Grand Canyon at
least once, but I can't remember a specific episode -- I guess we can leave
it at that for now.

There are no states that begin with B, so let's go ahead with the C's:
California, Colorado, and Connecticut. The first one is simple, since there
are five TAGS episodes featuring Hollywood (in the first season, a producer
comes to Mayberry to make a movie, and then in the sixth season there are
four episodes concerning the Taylor's trip). Now, who can come up with
references for Colorado and Connecticut?

Wow! 10 years of the wbmutbb list! Congratulations Allan! I think that it is
great that a list about TAGS has been around for this long! It shows how
terrific TAGS is and how great TAGS fans are! Not many other shows have the
staying power that TAGS has had throughout the years! :) Lisa

Here's a few that come to mind:

Cousin Virgil - New Jersey
Mr. O'Malley - Dee-troit, MI
Andy/Barney - Vacation in Miami Beach, FL (va va voom)
Aunt Bee/Jerry Van Dyke - Morgantown, WVa. (Don
Knotts' home town)
Runaway Boy/Opie - Texas/Wyoming
Malcolm Merriwether - Several revolutionary war
battlefields, Lexington, Concord, etc.
Andy - Several references to VA, including
Charlottesville & Richmond
also several references to Washington, DC
Otis/Barney - Directions to the still, through Tenn.,
OH, Canada, KY, etc.
Uncle Ollie/Flora - Lake Charles, I would assume
Louisiana?
Meek shoe salesman, and Stranger in town - NYC
Motorist - Barney gave a jar of Bee's "kerosene
cucumbers" to a guy on his way to Portland, OR.
Barney served in WWII against the "dreaded hun" at
Fort Dix, NJ
Helen Crump, from Kansas
Many references to California, as well as overseas
locations: "The old country" (Europe), Korea (Sam
Becker), South America (Andy's almost job offer, where
they have tor-tee-ya's) Malcolm/Barney's reference to
the "King of England".

Ron Howard is making another movie about the Alamo
soon. He'd do better to "Remember the Alamo" the way
John Wayne did, not some revised politically correct
version, or little Opie Cunningham/Richie Taylor may
have some not too happy Texan's agin' him. We might
not go see his movie, even if it has Rock Hudson in it
(just for Aunt Bee!). Hopefully it will be decent,
and we can enjoy a matinee, with a cold lemon
phosphate.

Charlie Varney - (Just for plain guzzlin')

Subject: Something for Christmas!!

Hi all,

Well, now that we're approaching Christmas (WHAT??!), I wanted to pass
along a site I found... it's a company called Hamilton Book... and it's
got a book called America on the Rerun: TV Shows That Never Die, by David
Story.
It's a book that takes a look back at sixteen immortal series, including
our fav, The Andy Griffith Show; Dark Shadows; The Avengers; Gilligan's
Island; The Addams Family, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.; it also discusses
the conception of each show, the scripts, and the stars. Well
illustrated. But the best news is that it's just $3.95 plus S & H... I
just ordered my copy!! Check it out! The link is below:
HamiltonBook.com

Best Wishes,
Kurt Adams

Thanks to all who correctly answered the question about Trick-or-treat
outfits. ( actually started that question on Halloween). I was thinking of
the Mayberry goes Hollywood episode which a couple of you mentioned, but I
think someone also astutely remembered
that Barney referred to Andy's polka Dot tie and Fishing hat as "trick or
treat" Good Job trained noticers!

Also, want to congratulate those who cited Alabama references..very good. I
sure wouldn't have know the Japser--George Lindsey Connection.

OK Paul, should we move on to the Cs (no B states I can think of but can't
find a list) California--we already mentioned was prominently featured by
the Taylors going to Hollywood. How about Connecticut or Colorado District
of Colombia??. If you're just joining us, we started naming references in
the Griffith show to each State. Alaska, Alabama and Arkansas are covered.
Arizona is still hanging out there. Mention of a city in the state also
counts. Paul Mulik has the idea to do small groups in Alphabetical order.

10 years! That's awesome! Way to go Allan. Real Smooth. You Too
Helen...I mean Jan.

Is she pretty? She's nice, real nice.

few folks in, a little yellow sponge cake with 10 candles on it. But,
I'm sure Allan would have said no. You know how he is about fuss and
