All,
Ironically, Arnold (the actor) actually became a dentist as an adult.

"I can't ever recall a dentist, but this may make for another interesting
trivia.. Name all of the professions
that are located in Mayberry."
Here are ten other possibilities:
1) Pickle brine taster (my personal favorite),
2) Furniture assembler (applying glue to furniture),
3) Newspaper editor and apprentice (remember Meathead?),
4) Attorney (although none of them seemed to have much business when the woman
speeder came through town),
5) Musician (He digs you, so you make sure and dig him back),
6) Hot dog vendor (there must be one, I remember seeing the Hot Dog sign in the
background in a couple of scenes),
7) Grain elevator operator/feedstore operator (same as #6),
8) Army Recruiter (Ernest T. needed a uniform),
9) Pilot instructor (Maybe not, where was the airport? Mt. Pilot?)
10) Butcher.
I'll be thinking of more...

Subject: voice actors - Rudolph
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
>>>Clarise Rudolf's doefriend is voiced by Gomers girlfriend. She has a very
distinctive voice.
Not quite, but the voices are similar. Except for Burl Ives, most of the
"Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer" actors were Canadian. Clarice was
actually voiced by Janet Orenstein. Gomer's gal pal Lou-Ann Poovie was
played by Elizabeth MacRae, who also appeared as Betty Ann in the TAGS
episode "Big Brothers." Nobody from TAGS worked on Rudolph.
Congratulations to everyone who correctly attributed the "Good grief" quote
to Hermey (not Herbie), the elf who aspired to become a dentist. For more
info on this great film, visit www.rankinbass.com.
While we're on the subject, I've always thought that the tall elf with
glasses bears a remarkable resemblance to Mayberry's John Masters. I
suppose it's possible (barely) that the character's appearance was patterned
after Olan Soule; he was a well-established actor at that time (1964). Just
take a look at Sam the Snowman, and it's very obvious that at least SOME
Rankin-Bass characters were patterned after real actors.

Hey someone mentioned Howard being brave in a recent post.
I agree he did have some rare moments of toughness..like when he went up the
Carson shack to try to rescue Andy. Someone also mentioned the trip to New
York with Emmett, but that was an RFD episode. He also took on that tough
guy(Allan Melvin)to fight for his girl Millie. Another RFD episode has
Howard very Barney-esqe deciding to rob the Mayberry Bank. He wanted to
prove that law enforcement in town was lax. (just Goober as a part-time
deputy) How could such a Mama's boy summon that bravery at times??
Hey Paul, I think we're stuck on the I-states. Ready to give us the next
group?
During this holiday season, we look forward to that famous Christmas episode
(it still makes me cry). That was so good, it's ashamed they didn't do any
other Christmas shows. For those still longing for more, may I suggest a
Griffith Christmas Story on our Fan Fiction page. Actually there are a
couple. The one I wrote, I did just to imagine what the next Griffith
Christmas show might have been like. See "An Unforgettable Christmas" at
this link

Its definitely no fun when that iron door clangs shut on you....it's uh
definitely no fun.

Don't forget those "brilliant barristers" who were selling aluminum
siding and calling ball games in the off-season of litigation.

I could be entirely wrong, but I could have sworn Arnold`s dad was a dentist
on the show-i thought something was mentioned about him being a dentist when
Opie and Arnold had to write an essay about their most unforgettable
character, and Opie wrote about Arnold`s dad-could be wrong episode, wrong
profession, but thats what i was thinking of. Also this is in response to the
woman who wrote in about people taking Christmas out of Mayberry by using
X-Mass-although I prefer writing out Christmas to the abbreviation,
Mayberrians who prefer the abbreviation are correct also, as the Greek letter
X is the first letter (chi) of the Greek word for Christ, Xristos, meaning
"Christ`s Mass," and was commonly used in earlier times for Christmas-thanks
Allan, for letting me go out onto a limb and explaining this (as was
explained to me by my Pastor), so everyone knows Christmas is still alive and
well in Mayberry, even in ol` Ben Weaver`s heart in their Christmas show(my
favorite by far)

Subject: Barneys Return
Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2001 14:11:40 -0500
I was watching "Barneys Return To Mayberry" the other night and begin to
wonder if anyone knows whether TAGS ever tried to get Don Knotts to come
back as a permanent character? I remember seeing on Inside TV Land that his
orginal reason for leaving was due to the fact that Andy had always said he
would only do the show for five years (I think it was five). When the time
drew near Don Knotts began to pursue other options and apparently had
another offer before Andy announced the show would go on. I know leaving was
a difficult decision for him. Also, were Barney's guest apperances part of a
contract negotiation when he left or were they Andy's idea? I know the two
were good friends.
Thanks for your help?
Donna Taylor

Just a wonderin',
On religion in Mayberry,
What denomination was the
"All Souls Church"?
I remember the one "Muslim"
buying moonshine for guzzling from
the Morrison sisters, they mentioned what
they thought he was, which I can't recall.
And then on "Goober takes a car apart",
He tells "Alice" how to do some mechanic work,
and he thinks she's a Quaker, which Andy confirms.
Then, Bobby Fleets band helps with the marching band,
as they drive away, Andy or Barney says they think they are
"one of those travelin' religions to cover up who they really are.
And of course, if you count Jamie Farr as a "gypsy" putting a no-rain curse
on Mayberry if the Mayberrians run them out of town.
Did I get them all?

I Know no harm was intended, but we do need to keep Christ in Christmas
not calling it Xmas. It does offend many and HE is the reason for the
season. Andy and Aunt Bee and even Barney were church goers and would
agree I'm sure.
