comes to town to help her Uncle Fred with the Drug Store.......Emma wants
her pills that Fred always gave her for a dime. Ellie denies her
request.....Emma's last name is called "Brand" or "Bran". Later in other

subject. We decided that, here in Texas at least, "up to" referred to a

"over to" the destination while we go "out to" places to the west. Skip"
After holding a secret meeting in the barn in my part of Texas to discuss the
"Uptown-Downtown" issue, the club members agreed that the term going
"Uptown" means the same as going "Downtown" depending on from which end of
the hill one departs (bottom of the hill? You're headed uptown, etc.)
BEING Uptown is a whole different kettle of fish - BEING Uptown is the same
as being in "High Cotton" and refers to rising above your financial and/or
social status. If you're ACTING Uptown - you've done gone and got above your
raising.
Goober Linda - I'll keep it simple - I'm going TO town.

In the early episode where Ellie decides to run for the city council,
hotdogs are mentioned in the opening picnic scene. Opie wants Aunt Bee to
go and look for gophers with him. Then he wants to come back and eat some
more hotdogs. Walkin' makes him hungry. There may be other references, but
that's the first one that comes to mind. Betcha Paul will have an answer

If there was, we haven't found it yet. I guess there probably wasn't any.
Let's get caught up: we were working on Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri,
and Montana. In "Goodbye, Sheriff Taylor" Andy gets a phone call from St.
Paul, Minnesota, and Kansas City is mentioned a couple of times, so I guess
that counts for Missouri (KC MO is much larger than KC KS, so we'll assume
they meant KC MO at least once). I don't think we ever came up with one for
Mississippi, but it seems like there MUST be at least one reference to it,
since it's in the South.
Moving on: next are Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, and New Jersey.

Actually, he said " ... Mayberry's more'n 900 miles from New York." This
can't possibly be correct, because if it were, Mayberry could not lie within
the borders of North Carolina. I guess Barney's numbers were off.

I don't know if Andy Griffith loves hot dogs in real life or not, but you're
right, Ben Matlock surely does. Hot dogs (the kind people eat, not panting
furry pets) are mentioned in several TAGS episodes:
In "Ellie for Council" the Taylors are enjoying a picnic, and Opie gobbles
down several of them
In "A Black Day for Mayberry" (the gold truck episode) a vendor is selling
hot dogs to the large crowd
In "Opie and His Merry Men" the boys enjoy wienies and root beer, which they
call "venison and nut brown ale"
In "Back to Nature" Aunt Bee sends some fried chicken up to the campsite,
after correctly deducing that Andy would be getting tired of hot dogs
In "Andy and Opie, Bachelors" Andy cooks up a batch of wienies and beans (it
was kinda hard to tell under all the black parts)
Signs advertising hot dogs / wieners / frankfurters can also be seen in
various markets around town, and Duncan's hot dog stand can be seen in
"Arrest of the Fun Girls" when Andy and Barney pull the girls over for
speeding. Duncan sells them for 15 cents.

A good source to visit is Jim Nolt's "Adventures of Superman" site:

www.angelfire.com/biz/Mayberry/index.html for some great aerial photos of
the "Mayberry" backlot.

A Few Months ago something brought up the subject of
"What If" Ricky, Lucy, Fred, & Ethel went through
Mayberry. Well, I don't know If this has been brought
up before, but here's the closest thing I can come up
with, On today's episode of Lucy, titled "Tennessee
Bound", They get arrested for speeding and get thrown
In jail, and GUESS WHO the Sheriff Is ? Will Wright
(Old Ben Weaver, Himself). Anyway, the more I watched
It, the more I got to thinkin' of the similarity
between It and the pilot episode of TAGS on "Make Room
For Daddy" (Where Andy turns out to be not only
Sheriff, but just 'bout everything else In Town). It
looked like Will Wright was doing the same thing. Jeff

Subject: Anybody have the Hollywood episodes UNCUT?
Hey Folks,
I'm trying to locate uncut copies of the three color episodes in which the
Taylors visit Hollywood, or as close to uncut as I can get. I'd be happy
to trade episodes or provide tapes, postage, etc if anybody could help me
out. I've got a bunch of TAGS episodes as they originally aired (some with
original commercials & some with everything but the commercials) I'd be
happy to trade as well.
Thanks,
Chad Palmer
