Wasn't the girl that tricked Barney into marriage with her "daddy" from
Mississippi? I may be confused because of the strong accent.
Also, I lived in Wilmington, NC when Andy was filming Matlock and he did
love hotdogs. The seller on the riverfront which served as the steps to
the courthouse was one of his favorites.

I thought this was an interesting observation. It just
occurred to me recently that the list or unmarrieds on TAGS
is unusually lengthy because almost all the regular
characters are single---Andy, Barney, Aunt Bee, Gomer,
Goober, Helen, Thelma Lou, Howard, Floyd ... others?

Funny that Floyd is mentioned as a single ... note that in one episode (where
Barney is forming a posse) that Floyd mentions "the missus" .... Barney tells
Floyd
to bring a gun and Floyd says he doesn't have a gun, but the "missus has a big
walking stick" ... also in the episode where he sings the "Hail to Thee, Miss
Mayberry" song, he tells Andy that he and his wife want Andy to select their
niece
as "Miss Mayberry". There are references, too, to children of Floyd.....one
episdoe actually shows his son playing the saxophone to "audition" for the shoe
salesman that they think is a talent scout from New York. However, Floyd is
definitely single when he meets "Madeline" from the lonely hearts club.

Another single, altho we never see her: Juanita...
and, of course, Clara is single and so is Emma Watson. Ellie Walker is another
single.

Lots of luck to you and yours!

>>>.....Emma's last name is called "Brand" or "Bran". Later in other
episodes it is "Watson". Help me Doug Baggett

This is one of those points where the writers weren't entirely consistent.
Perhaps Brand was her married name, and Watson was her maiden name. She may
have gone back to using her maiden name some time after her husband's death
(this is just a theory, of course, but it does fit the facts as we know
them).

Same goes for Clara; her late husband was Mr. Johnson (he's mentioned in
"The Pickle Story") but later on she went by Clara Edwards instead of Clara
Johnson. To make it even more confusing, during the first season, her first
name was Bertha! (maybe that's her middle name).

mentioned on TAGS - I can think of someone mentioning Captain Marvel once but
thats all. Help please....>>

I remember that Goober mentioned Captain Whamo once as his favorite comic
book hero.

Hey! from Kansas.....
I just put my Andy Griffith desktop theme on my computer to help me get
through the rest of the winter, and I noticed that there are no startup, wait,
and shutdown screens with it. I don't know enough about computers to make my
own, so are there any Mayberrites out there who could create some and post
them on the Mayberry website so we could get them? I'd really like it if the
first thing I saw when I turned on my computer, and the last thing I saw when
I turned it off was Andy and the gang!
Sweetly Disposed

Funny you should mention that...I think the list of married regulars is much
shorter. Otis, Emmett and Mayor Stoner are the only three I can think of
(don't remember if Mayor Pike was widowed but he definitely had a daughter),
plus I think Floyd mentions having a wife in the earliest episodes but is
later mentioned as being a widower. BTW, don't forget that Ellie Walker was
single (as were the Fun Girls, Miss Rosemary and the nurses) and Sam Jones
was also a widower.

Hoo-hoo! LOL! That's for sure, Paul! And it wouldn't be the first time
our beloved Barney was inaccurate. I wouldn't recommend to anyone to
take, History, Geography, Judo, or language arts tutoring from 'ole Barn.
But, out of love and respect for my favorite deputy, I won't make a moulage
out of it... :0)
My best to you and yours!

Emmett mentioned that someone in his family was some bigwig in Nebraska. I
can't
remember specifically, but he may have been in city government. If I can find
the
episode, I'll post that, too. But memory fails me at the moment...Lisa
