This has probably been mentioned but i don't know if Thelma Lou and Barney
went to schoo; together or not but i remember Barney telling Andy that he met
Thelma Lou in 1960 at Wilton Blair's funeral, i think it was the episode of
his 5th anniversary as a deputy but i am not sure.

All,
As Burt Mustin was a barbershop singer from Tucson, and I am one from
Phoenix, I got to sing with
him once and to have breakfast with him on another occasion. The Phoenix
Chapter of Barbershoppers
hosted our barbershop International Mid-Winter convention in Phoenix in 1974,
and Burt was standing in
the lobby of the hotel. He and I sang a song with two others. Then in March
of the same year at the
International Pre-liminary contest another member of our quartet and I invited
him to sit at our table
and have breakfast. He mentioned that the previous year had been his most
profitable in acting as he
was in "Hello, Dolly" and they had been rained out for several days, all of
which he got paid for.

TAGS fans,
I know we've passed Arkansas and aren't to Texas, yet, but wouldn't
Keevy Hazelton's song about Texarkana fit for both (since it's in both
states)?

Bighead here - and I AM that gentleman(??) who wrote about
Barney & Thelma Lou - Ok I have to admit that it might be
just BARELY possible that two folks could go to high school
together and not meet - first there's you and who else, lets
see, could it be ME? I also met MY wife Sue 4 years after
high school even though we went to the same school. She was
a couple years behind me and it is a small town but I think
there were 600 in my graduating class. I didn't meet her
until I was a senior in college and a friend of mine was
dating a friend of hers.
I just thought that with Mayberry's grad-u-atin class
appearing to be 50 folks or less it was less likely to
happen. Thanks for bringing out the trained noticer in me,
hah!
BTW, my son Bryan is now a Junior at Fraser High School.
His biology teacher remembered me and asked him if he was my
"brother" - hah - good old Mrs. Beutel (the beast of the
second floor)appears to be losing her memory - it's been 27
years since she had me in class. (And yes I'm working on
that paper on frog dissectin', I should have it done next
week, I know it's late...)
I appreciate it,

I know we've mentioned about how the mayberry fire department is not
mentioned. In this past weekend alone
I've heard three examples:
1) Episode where Andy is going to south america and then decides not to.
Barney starts a campaign
to write-in Andy as sheriff and puts Floyd in charge of the entire block;
"Maple to Elm, Elm to oak, oak to ?,
and ? to the firehouse"
2) In the Jubal foster episode. Andy askes Jubal why he didn't call the
volunteer fire department.
3) In the case of the punch in the nose episode. Andy and Barney are
boxing up some old file work. Andy states
that they're just going to be stored in the basement of the firehouse.
Are there anymore examples?

I've got a question about the episode where opie tries to win Andy a razor
at
the shooting gallery...It seems to me that if they were shooting .22's like
they
said they were, there would be a look of bullets flying around after
hitting that
steel bulls eye. Either there would be flying lead or the bulls eye would
be
torn apart. I'm no gun expert, but wouldn't this be the case with .22's?

As much as everyone wants to see Ron Howard get the Oscar for best director
that we all think he deserves, I'll bet the Golden Globes were a preview of
what will happen in the Oscar voting. Robert Altman is a respected director
who has been around a long time and has never gotten an Oscar. Given the
respective ages of Altman and Ron, Altman seems to have a good chance of
getting a lot of "sorry you didn't get it sooner" votes. This may be the last
chance to vote for him, and Ron seems a sure bet to have many more projects
ahead of him. I think it is fairly obvious that is what happened at the
Golden Globes. All the awards go to one picture, except best director, and
everyone connected with the picture calls it a "Ron Howard" project and signs
his praises!

Has the great state of Tennessee been forgotten in the
name game? Nashville and Chattanooga both were
mentioned in different episodes. Andy contacted the
sheriff "over" in Chattanooga about a certain fellow.
Also, I believe Floyd was skipping out on his pen-pal
girlfriend and going to Nashville.

Paul and all state-watchers
Thanks for the summary. That was very helpful. Here are a couple you
missed, but that's OK, at least now we know your human.
AL-- You and someone else mentioned Jasper (near George Lindsey's home town)
and that Keevey Hazlton mentioned Mobile.
CT-I reported this one. In a conversation in the Taylor kitchen about
college, Aunt Bee mentions
a boy who gotten his adenoids removed was going to a "small college in
Connecticut"
IN-Jeff Gossett reported that Aunt Bee or Clara had a relative that moved to
South Bend Indiana
(he gave us his word as a Gentleman)
My memory isn't to great either, but I found these on our archives. (nice
feature Allan)
While we're in the "O"s does "Ole Man Kelsey" have a state, since he's got a
crick, a woods and an ocean?
---
regarding Jack Prince, Someone has mentioned in hear before that he has
recorded some albums/ tapes or whatever.

I've never seen that lamp so I cannot comment on its powers

This will be my first trip to Mayberry Days. I am
soliciting any suggestions regarding shows and
activities. I have found helpful information on the
surryarts.org website. I am particularly interested
in seeing Michael Hoover and Professor Brower. Any
other suggestions would be helpful.

Re the name of Opie's band...they finally settled on "The Sound Committee",
although I thought Andy's suggestion had a nice ring to it--he thought they
should be called "The Young Swingers".
Of course that reminds me of another Mayberry musical group that didn't
quite get off the ground...who remembers the "New Mayberry Minstrels"? Can
you name the episode and membership of this almost-group?

Did we discuss Washington DC yet? I was thinking we did since it is District
of Columbia (under the
D's) but maybe we're saving it for the W's. I thought someone had a reference
to "the nation's
capitol" although they may not have said "Washington DC" on the show. I might
be wrong but maybe
someone can remember if we did have a reference to this. Thanks - LisaJ
