Well, I found out I have something in common with Elvis. We both rank The
Party starring Peter Sellers as one of our top 5 favorite movies. And while
watching it last night, I saw 3 alumni. Gavin McLeod (bank robber and later
played Andy in Sheriff Without a Gun was the cad, Jean Carson (Daphne)
played the nanny and the bank robber who returned to Mayberry looking for
the $250,000 he threw off the train (he and Barney did the secret FBI
handshake) had a lot of screen time.

I recently saw the episode where Andy is telling Opie that he can't come
to the courthouse after school any more. Something has always looked
strange to me in that scene. This time I figured it out: the part in
Andy's hair is on the "wrong" side! His hair is always parted on the
left; but in this scene we see the right side of his face, and the part
has mysteriously moved over to that side. I wonder if make-up changed
it for this scene, or if the close-ups of Andy were exposed backwards,
something that happens often in still photography (lots of "left-handed"
guitarists that you know play right-handed, for example). I don't
recall how he looks in the shots where you see both him and Opie. As
Barney told Gomer, "I'd like to hear some kind of explanation!"

Oops, I left that one off the list. There are several references, the most
notable being "The Woman Speeder's" home. Barney also mentions the "Smith
Brothers Institution" as a possible home for his motor-sickle.

Not Sure if Wash D.C. is open for discussion yet, so give me
a rude if necessary. Heck, throw a tomato at me if you
want, I haven't had my lunch yet.
Barney did speak of that "Smith Brothers Institution" as a
place to donate the Checkpoint Chickie Motor-sickle to. I
believe that esteemed institution in in D.C. Also Elizabeth
the woman speeder was from D.C.as well as some of the folks
at Barney's summit meeting.
Also, Barney spoke of his pal J. Edgar Hoover on a couple of
occasions. I believe Mr. Hoover (not the vacuum sweeper
fellow) hung his hat in the nation's capital.

Actually they may not have been. First, the Golden Globes have always been
ga-ga for Altman. One year they even invented a special category just to
give his film "Short Cuts" a special award. Secondly, they announced the
five Director's Guild nominees yesterday and Altman didn't make the cut...but
Ron Howard (who previously won, BTW) did. In fact, Ron was the only American
to be nominated this year. Most people consider the Director's Guild more of
a barometer for the directors Oscars. And finally, Ron was considered
snubbed several years ago when he won the DG award for "Apollo 13" but lost
the Oscar, they could still make it up to him!

In response to Lisa's wanting to see Michael Hoover
Although he is an Elvis impersonator and not necessarily
mayberry, He is all Mayberry at Heart, Michael performs his shows during
Mayberry Days in Mt. Airy, and let me tell you folks
He Looks, Walks, Talks, Sings, and yes LADIES, he moves like Elvis. And he is
the only known Elvi to have Mayberry backup singers for his entourage. And
even with the crazy antics of
Barney, Floyd, Ernest T. and now Howard Sprague he never misses a beat.
Now for those who can't wait for Mayberry Days he has a tenative date set For
April 20th at the famous "Oakboro Music Hall"
in the beautiful resort town of Oakboro, NC.
Also don't forget David and Patty Browning performing "Love Letters "Feb 12th
(I think) at the music hall.
It's jest a wisk and a whisper away from Charlotte.
Off Hwy 24/27 between Charlotte and Albemarle.

The following conversations were overheard the other day on the porch of "Mrs.
Mendelbright' Boarding House." I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going
the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy groceries for $20.00."
"Have you seen the new cars coming out for next year? It won't be long before
$5000 will only buy a used one." "If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm
going to quit: a quarter a pack is ridiculous." Lots of luck to you and
yours.

Why is is that sometimes Barney can sing and other times he can't sing,
"not a lick," according to Thelma Lou? There's also a memorable moment when
Barney puts himself in jail and argues with Otis. "Barney's in jail." Nip
it, nip it, nip it." "Who's gonna make me." Me, myself and I." "That's
three people." How about when Barney says "Cock-a-doodle-do" to Jaunita and
Andy walks in and asks Barney if there's an egg on his chair. Just some
random thoughts.

Definitely need to get tickets to Colonel Tim's Talent
Tim. If you like bluegrass music, Doug Dillards
concert is real good. Or if you're more of an Elvis
fan, get you some tix to Michael Hoover's Elvis show.
Either way, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Nope. We are not to the "T's" yet. I am just about to burst with all the
fine references to the Great State of Tennessee I accumulated right
before this game kicked off. Never fear -- when we get to the "T'S" I am
READY!
By the way, we have a state-wide club for fans of TAGS in Tennessee

also from Tennessee, please feel free to join us!

I believe our nation's capitol was mentioned in the
episode where Barney gets his motorcycle. He said
that the motorcycle, (since it was a part of history
what with having had General Pershing ride in it)
should be in that "Smith Brother's Museum in
Washington D.C."
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
Barney: Do you know what I found out? If you ride
down the road with your mouth open and put your tongue
on the roof of your mouth, it's impossible to say any
word that begins with the letter "S".
Andy: You didn't let anybody see you riding around
like that did you?
Barney:...Naw....!
Have a Mayberry Day,
Anita Carpenter

The "Aunt Bee Mayberry Cookbook" states that Aunt Bee was
never married. In the first TAGS episode Aunt Bee mentions
that she has raised her family & is now lonely for someone
to help. Now, I always thought she was a widow. Any info
from other sources? Also, I assumed from the context of
several episodes that Floyd was a widower.

The Cow Thief
Just finished watching "The Cow Thief" on TVLand, and I have to say I'm
disappointed about how they edit the episodes. Remember, in the scene where
the Mayor and Upchurch and Barney leave the room after the Mayor gets mad at
Andy over his hair-brained theory about the cow wearing shoes, and then Barney
returns and tells Andy he remembers when another Mayor of Mayberry got upset at
Andy when he had another hair-brained idea, and that idea was when Andy wanted
to hire Barney as his deputy. Well, TVLand edited that touching line out.
Why? I remember seeing the "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs" episode a few months back, and
they edited out Barney's "Boy, giraffes are selfish" line, while talking to
Opie....I guess it's ok, though, for us people who have every episode on
videotape!!!!! Ha!
