This doesn't have anything to do with Mayberry, but Peter Marshall and
the old Hollywood Squares was far better and funnier than the new one. Give
me Paul Lynde and George Gobel any day.

Subject: One Liners
There are so many great quotes and one-liners from the show, once you
get started on them, it's hard to stop. The Mayberry Interactive site
under "Peggy's Quotes" is a great place to find all kinds of quotes and
one liners from the show.
I thought of a few to add to Marsha's list.
"Quarter!"
"She wants to stay here with me and my BOYS!"
"Move over...I'm drivin'."
"I don't think I'll need it, Barn. Fluffy and I've been friends for
years."
"Daylight's precious when you're a youngun." (Al Becker's favorite
quote)
"You all know Al Becker."
"Pipe down! This ain't a ballpark!"
"That's the couch I was tellin' you about."
"Maybe they'll let us bring 'em COFFEE."
"And quit hollerin' at yourself in that lookin' glass!"
"I'll be right in there with ya daddy, in case the evening starts to
lag."
"Alright....everybody out! SHAKEDOWN! "
"Andy, I forbid you to see that girl again!"

All these comments on farmers and using the same sets
got me to thinking how many of Mayberry's citizens
were farmers? Actually, I imagine some or most of the
farms were actually outside the city limits. Here's
the ones I can think of from the b&w era. There were
obviously some from the later years, like Sam Jones,
etc:
1) The guy who had his cows stolen.
2) Frankie Flint's dad (Andy's buddy in real life
from UNC)
3) Jubal Foster
4) Parnell Rigsby (they lived out in the country, so
I assumed he was a farmer)
5) The Darlings (I guess they were chicken & hog
farmers)
6) Mr. Frisbee (bootlegger/farmer)
7) Sam Becker (Barney thought he was growing
marijuana)
8) Rafe Hollister (bootlegger/farmer)
9) The guy that got chased up the tree by the bear,
when Andy let him out of jail to harvest.
10) The Morrison Sisters (florists are technically
farmers if they grow the flowers)
11) That Strongbow fellow? (colorized)
12) The farmer who lost his muts, in Dog's, Dog's,
Dog's. (he appeared in the epilogue)
Any more?

I noticed something strange in "A Medal for Opie" the
other night. When registered for the 50Y dash at the
jail, the boy that registers before Opie, I believe
his name was "Brad Stevens".
But when the race is run, only 4 kids run it. Of
course we know Opie comes in last, but Andy reads of
the names of the first three. The thing is I don't
think he mentions "Brad Stevens". Maybe I just caught
it wrong, but I think we're missing a boy.

>>> ...in the color class reunion episode (that Barney returns for) Helen
steps out on the porch to announce to Barney and Andy that "We just got a
telegram all the way from Jacksonville..Thelma Lou is coming"
>>>
That was probably a reference to Florida. I don't think there's a
Jacksonville in MS (you were probably thinking of Jackson, the capital).
>>>Now for Oregon, we've got Portland that was mentioned earlier as the home
of the Pickle recipient who was headed to Portland. For Ohio..I believe
Otis, in his directions to Barney of where the still is; passes through
Ohio. I'm stuck on Oklahoma...
>>>
Correct for OR and OH. I don't think there is one for Oklahoma, unless you
count Colonel Harvey's comment about living among the Shawnee. There is a
Shawnee, OK, which was no doubt named for the tribe, so that's sort of an
indirect reference.
Next up: Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota.

...And in Mayberry, RFD, she was engaged to a ship's captain whom she met while
taking a cruise. He thought he was ready to retire, but she broke it off when
she
realized that the sea would always be her first love. Incidentally, the captain
was Will Geer of Grandpa Zeb Walton fame. I always thought he was funny on the
Waltons, with great love for his family and an irrepresible, irreverent sense of
humor. Oh, and a great love for The Recipe!! :)

In the episode where the town owe's the old man all the money for the bond,
(which ends up being cashable only in confederate money) don't the out of
towners who pull up to see the beautiful show place they made of the old
man's house claim to be from Oregon, or did I just make that up?
