Oh, by the way, I meant the sea was HIS (the captain's) first love, not Aunt
Bee's.
We know that her real love was her family. I must've been typing with my eyes
closed
or something. :)
Also, I watched the episode last night when the governor came to shake Barney's
hand
- "Bless his heart" - after getting a ticket from Barney for illegal parking.
That
episode is absolutely hilarious! I love it when B. gets gassed! I guess he
had too
much mulberry squeezin's again!

When they mention Thelma Lou being married, I assumed it was
Jacksonville,NC-there is a major Marine base there,Camp Lejeune.
I just saw Howrd McNear in a crazy movie called Bachelor Flat. He was
an archaeologist. Also Aunt Bee's butter and egg man was on an eepisode
of The Waltons. He had a long white beard.

The first reference that comes to mind for Pennsylvania is Barney telling
Malcom Merriwether about Gettysburg, Pennsylvania as a great historical site
to visit. You know, where Lincoln delivered his famous "Gettysburg Address".

Some that come to mind this morning.
1. "Pa, just what can you do with a grown woman?"
2. "You know what I think I'll do, I think I will just go to the filliin'
station and get a bottle of pop."
3."What's your hurry?"
4. "I might be busy explaining to Opie, why you want to go to the duck pond."
5. "He didn't talk about sin."
6. When Andy tells the kids and Barney that the shot was fired that was heard
around the world, Barney replies,
"Get out!"
7. Lydia tells the group that sun or something, gives here the herpes, and
Barney says, "Sure you do."
8. "Why don't you ask Floyd, hes a barber."
9. "What do you know, spaghetti."
10. "Three hours is a long time to go without eatin'"
Larry in Oklahoma
you're not talking to a jerk, you know.

In the episode where barney is installing the intercom system in the jail
cell, andy says to
him "since your busy, mr. mark harney, I'll get the carburetor put on the
patrol car" or something
like that. Who is Mr. Mark Harney? Was he someone famous?

>>>I believe South Carolina is mentioned in a radio broadcast at the Taylor
home as being the state from which some convicts had escaped. Can't recall
the name of the episode at this moment.
You're remembering a scene from "Family Visit" in which Andy learns that
convicts have escaped from Meehawken. Another SC reference is in "The
Hollywood Party," when the movie crew publicist mistakenly says that
Mayberry is in SC.

Subject: Smoking in Mayberry...Re: WBMUTBB digest, Vol 1 #90 - 13 msgs
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
A subject I am sure has been discussed before, but not since I have been
watching the digest is smoking in Mayberry. Especially smoking by Andy. On
several shows we get an always short glimpse of Andy smoking. The glimpse is
always of him finishing a cigarette, never a lengthy smoke. I assume Andy
smoked in real life.
It puzzels me why there were these short glimpses of him smoking. I know in
that day smoking was not very unusual so maybe it made Andy seem more normal.
Today, Andy being the clean cut guy he is probably would not smoke.
The other thing that puzzles me about this is how few of the other characters
are ever seen smoking. Smoking is usually reserved for criminals and the few
puffs Andy takes. I really do not recall hardly ever seeing any of the
regulars on the show smoke. Anybody else got any thoughts on the subject?
What causes that anyway?

Glad to be back amongst you folks! I've been away a while (no....not with
the Eubacher brothers or anything like that!) I just changed computers
and...before you know it...I was outta touch with all of you fellow
"Griffithologists!" Anyway.......good to hear from all of you! Keep a
good thought! By the way....did you know if you put a willow chip under a
sleeping dog's head while he's dreaming....then put the same chip under
your own pillow....you will have the same dream. Also....did you
know..that it is scientifically and biologically wrong to bring a wild
bird indoors? (Besides a bird in the house means there's gonna be a death
in the family!)
Take care!

During lunch today, I was watching Appraise It on HGTV. They had a sample
of a collection of TV memorabilia. Now, I saw the patch on the sleeve right
off, so I knew there was some good stuff coming up.
They had one of Don Knott's uniform shirts complete with the Mayberry
Sheriff patch. Valued at $5000. Down the row a bit from that was one of
Jim Nabor's khaki uniform shirts from Gomer Pyle USMC complete with his PFC
stripe. Valued at $3500.

On the B&W reunion episode a classmate of Andy and Barneys comes in the
courthouse to report that she sent out 35 invitations. She tells Andy that
she has not heard from Sharon Despain yet but that she sent her invitation
to her most recent address in Philadelphia and not to worry they are real
good about forwarding mail. That should take care of Pennslyvania.

"I always thought Aunt Bee was single but it's confusing when Andy saysshe
won't allow liquor in the house, something about a brother of hers;wouldn't
that then be Andy's uncle? If so you'd think he'd say "ouruncle" instead
of "her brother." Maybe she was indeed his aunt bymarriage only and
widowed at an early age and dedicated her life tohelping raise nieces and
nephews.
"------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------What
an interesting observation! I think that in the color episode where the
town is building a statue to Seth Taylor, Aunt Bee is referred to as one
of Seth's descendants, as is Andy. If she were a Taylor by marriage, she
and Andy would not have the same ancestors. I think she even refers
to Seth Taylor as "Grandpa Seth". And in the episode where Aunt Bee's
baby sister, Nora, comes to visit, Andy refers to her as Aunt Nora. Of
course, just because someone calls someone Grandpa or Aunt does not mean
much. Lots of children refer to family friends as Aunt and Uncle. Maybe
Aunt Bee calls him Grandpa Seth because he is Andy's Grandpa, just as a
mother might refer to her husband's mother as Grandma in front of the
children. It is a lot of fun to speculate on these things. I enjoy
reading all the different points of view. I think it adds to the
enjoyment of TAGS. Whether Aunt Bee is an! aunt by blood or marriage
doesn't really matter anyway. What does matter is that she and Andy and
Opie are family and they all love one another regardless of whether the
bond is blood or marriage. Isn't that what all families ought to
do?------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
