The name was Mr. Marconi.. did a lot of research in electrical devices such
as radios, etc.

Actually, that's Mr. Marconi. If memory serves, Marconi invented the
wireless radio transmitter - ya know, another one-a them electronal marvels!

But I don't wanna be one of them family interfere-ers. I wouldn't wanna do

(Sorry - without the video of that episode here in Nigeria, that's the best
my memory could do! That, by the way, is one of my favorite scenes!)

Well, I guess I opened up a real mystery with the Jacksonville mention, so
let me add to the intrigue. If they was just talkin about Jacksonville NC,
why would the lady say they got a telgram.."all the way from Jacksonville?"
I guess the way Mrs. Lesch drives, that would be a long way.
Mark Harney??? it's Mr. Marconi. (Guglielmo Marchese Marconi)--Italian

Now my old ears ain't what they used to be, so I could be wrong, but I thought
he called him Mr. Marconi, who was very instrumental in the invention and
development of the radio. So, yes, HE was someone famous.

Hello!
I am new to the digest and this is my first post. I am a huge AGS fan and
my favorite characters are Barney, Floyd, and Ernest T. Barney getting
"gassed" and he and Floyd with the female convicts are hilarious!! Thanks
for letting me be a part of Mayberry!!

Here's the interlude:
Barney: Boy, I tell you, if I ever came home with anything less than A's, I
just didn't dare come home.
Andy: I don't remember you getting all A's.
Barney: I did that once. Remember? The teacher made such a fuss about it
that all the kids hated me.
Andy: I don't remember.
Barney: Well, it's a fact. I didn't want 'em thinking I was some kind of a
snob or an egghead or something, so I buckled down and got bad marks.
Andy: That must have taken real effort.
Barney: You think you're kidding. Listen, an IQ can be a mixed blessing
sometimes. Some people want it and can't get it. I got it and had to get rid
of it. Life's funny that way, you know?

How about that girl that tried to scam him into a breech of promise for not
marrying him.
And don't forget Ernest T. Bass couldn't resist barney when he had that
wedding dress on.
Ellie Walker also faked a little love interest in Barney to make him run
back to Thelma Lou.

Hey all,
Another thought, does anyone know which episode has the most "regular"
characters in it? I would think it may be the episode where Barney runs
against Andy for Sherrif, or possibley the one where Gomer tries to make the
sound of an owl but is all full of sandwich. I would imagine it would be an
episode that at some point had a large group scene. Any thoughts?

Andy referred to Barney as "Mr. Marconi". He was an engineer/inventor who
developed wireless telegraphy. Marconi was the first to receive transatlantic
wireless signals.

Regarding Kelly's question on who is Mr. "Mark Harney"?...actually, the
reference is to Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937), who is credited by many with
being the "father of radio". The following is a brief biography taken from
the britannica.com website:
Italian physicist and inventor of a successful system of radio telegraphy
(1896). In 1909 he received the Nobel Prize for Physics, which he shared
with German physicist Ferdinand Braun. He later worked on the development of
shortwave wireless communication, which constitutes the basis of nearly all
modern long-distance radio.
Leonard Blush, Ethel Page and her organ and Barney and his intercom owe it
all to Mr. Marconi for developing the technology that they later exploited
for their fame (or ridicule in Barn's case).

This message is for Kelly. The answer to your question is that Andy said
"Maconi". Maconi was an Italian inventor famous for his wireless telegraph
which led to radio broadcasting. Now lets all recite the Preamble and count to
fifty. " Law, what have I got myself into!"

Actually, Andy was saying, in his country accent, "Mr. Marconi",
which is a reference to the man who is given credit for inventing
the radio.

A big "pat on the back" to those who remembered Gettysburg and Philadelphia.
One other PA reference is in "Andy and Opie's Pal" -- Tray Bowden would
rather live in Mayberry than to go back to Erie, PA.
I don't suppose we'll come up with Rhode Island or South Dakota, so let's
