Hello All: On the subject of oneliners one of my all time favourites is from
the episode when Barney buys his first car and Gomer smells gas. Barney
replies with an irritated "Of course you smell gas! What do you think this
thing runs on, coal?" Just thinking of that scene makes me break out in
gales of laughter! :) Keith

Hey all,
For Tennesse of coarse there is the "Im going to Nashville!" line.
Otis goes through "Tennessee" when he is "making for Canada."
And doesent Andy say that the new folks in town are from "somehwere in
Tennessee" when he is trying to get the truth out of Aunt Bee about the
Quincey's?
For Texas of coarse "Tex" gets his nickname by intending to end up there.
Utah ...thats tough ...drawing a blank so far

Tennessee references Compliments of TennesseeTAGS
club(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TennesseeTAGS/) and a few other
Mayberry friends!
1. There is the episode where Andy, Opie and Ellie trick Barney into
thinking Ellie has been robbed, and Andy has to call the Sheriff in
Chattanooge after Barney catches the guy by the RR tracks.
2. Chattanooga is also mentioned in the episode where Barney acts like a
mannequin at Weaver's.
3a. In Barney's Sidecar episode, Checkpoint Chickie gets created after Mrs
Beggs (?) got run off the road by a speeder. Her sister Tilly had the teeth
trouble after her father took her to a "no good" dentist in Nashville whose
office was in the back of a store
3b. the lady was speeding through Mayberry and a woman came into the courthouse
to report it and she talked about her buck-toothed sister (the Beaver) going to
a dentist in Nashville.
4. In "The Big House" episode, the prisoners are to be picked up by
"plain clothes policemen from Memphis".
5. In the "Barney Fife Subconsious Prober Primer" ep. where Barney is
talking to Otis in his sleep, Otis goes through several states
including Tenn. to eventually end up at Barney's house. I think that
ep. is called "Sheriff Barney".
6a. Remember when Floyd was going to head to Nashville because he was a
"deceitful wretch" when he told Madeline Grayson he was rich.
6b. Probably the most popular Tennessee reference is by Floyd in
"Floyd, the Gay Deceiver", "I'm going to Nashville!"
6c. Remember when Andy had to talk Floyd out of heading for Nashville in Floyd
the Gay Deceiver? "Floyd Lawson you're a deceitful wretch, I HATE YOU!"
7. What about the episodes where the local boy joined the traveling
band..?...Didn't they talk about Nashville in the first episode and in
the follow up where he had been fired by the band...?
8. Ellen Brown came in on the Nashville bus with bad memories of Pierre and a
manicure kit.
9. In the "One Punch Opie" episode where a new bully moves into town (Steve
Quincy), Andy is trying to pry the gossip out of Aunt Bee by guessing the boy
and his family moved to Mayberry from Tennessee, and guessed their name was
MacAdoo. Aunt Bee interrupts him, "No, no, no, their name is Quincy and
they're from Richmond...." -- Hasty Burford
So far Tennessee does not come off looking too good in TAGS episodes!
LOL!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alabama Stage & Screen Hall of Fame Announces Induction Class of 2002
Tuscaloosa, Ala. b The Alabama Stage and Screen Hall of Fame will induct
three members in a gala ceremony Saturday, March 16 on the campus of
Shelton State Community College. Broadway and film composer and lyricist
Hugh Martin joins the 2002 class of honorees, along with stage and film
star Dean Jones and television star George Lindsey. Tickets are on sale
now for the fourth annual event.
The selection committee considered more than 100 nominees with major
international careers before choosing this yearbs honorees, according to
ceremony producer Paul Looney. bThis yearbs recipients have provided us
all with countless hours of laughter and tears. Their selection reflects
Alabamabs pride in her native sons and daughters,b he said in announcing
the Hall of Fame class of 2002.
For years, George Lindseybs classic portrayal of bGooberb has filled
hearts with love and laughter. While he may be best known as the
bsimpleb gas station attendant on bThe Andy Griffith Show,b
Lindseybs
talents extend well beyond the city limits of Mayberry. In fact, Lindsey
is an established veteran character of tremendous range.
After graduation from the prestigious American Theatre Wing in New York
and landing of co-starring roles in Broadway musicals, including bAll
Americanb and bWonderful Town,b the Jasper, Alabama native headed for
Hollywood in 1962. He was immediately cast for the film bEnsign Pulverb
directed by Josh Logan. Within the next two years, Lindsey appeared in
more than 40 television shows. His introduction to Andy Griffith in 1964
inspired the creation of the bGooberb character. Lindsey co-starred on
both bThe Andy Griffith Showb and bMayberry RFDb for more than seven
years. The show still airs in syndication in more than 100 U.S. markets.
In 1971, Lindsey stopped by the Nashville studios of bHee Hawb to say
hello to friends. The showbs producer asked Lindsey to do ba couple of
linesb for the taping and a 20-year role on the series was spawned. His
motion picture credits include bCannonball Run II,b bThe Rescuers,b
bTake This Job and Shove It,b b Snowball Expressb (with fellow
honoree
Dean Jones), bThe Aristocatsb and bTreasurer of Matacumbe.b In 1996,
Lindsey was awarded the prestigious Minnie Pearl Award for his
humanitarian contributions, which include the George Lindsey Celebrity
Golf Tournament. In 1998, he founded the George Lindsey Television and
Film Festival at the University of North Alabama further contributing to
the cultural life of his home state.
The Alabama Stage and Screen Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Gala
will be held Saturday, March 16 at the Bean-Brown Theatre in the
Tuscaloosa Fine Arts Centre on the campus of Shelton State Community
College, 9500 Old Greensboro Road in Tuscaloosa.
The gala evening begins with a cocktail party and silent auction at 6:30
p.m. The Induction Ceremony, featuring a talented group of performers
paying tribute to each honoree, begins at 8 p.m. followed by a dinner
dance. Honorary Chairs for the 2002 event are Sandra Ray and Sheila
Warner. Gala Chairpersons for 2002 are Cheri Sisson and Paula Boston who
are working with a large group of volunteers.
Tickets for the black-tie event may be purchased by calling
205.391.2277.

Hilda Mae, from 2 early episodes. The only one she
spoke in was the one when she messed up Barney's hair

episode where Ellie ran for town council. At the
rally at the courthouse, she just gave Barney a mean

Did someone mention this one? Tina Andrews (nee Irene Flogg) the previous
Mayberry resident turned actress who came into town to debut her new movie.
She and Barney went out and Barney felt some definite chemistry with Irene.
But then, sadly, Irene - I mean Tina - had
a fianci. Poor ol' Barn...

Opie said that Tex, the runaway boy (aka George Foley), couldn't decide whether
to run away to "Texas or Wyomin'". (If there are any Wyoming residents out
there, don't get mad at me for leaving out the "g" on the end, please. That's
just the way Opie said it and I thought
it was cute.) So anyway, there is the Texas reference, and I know I skipped
ahead, but there's also the one for Wyoming! :)

Good idea Quentin...in fact I have a question: is anyone keeping a list of the
existing original props, set pieces, etc from the original series? I know
about the squad car that's in the Roy Rogers (or is it Gene Autry?) museum, not
on display yet, and the HGTV show that featured what was supposedly one of Don
Knotts' original uniforms. On the other hand, we know the 40 acres lot is
pretty much gone. Can anyone add to the list?

Hi All!
Just wanted to tell everyone that last week (and in November, too) I was on
a Royal Caribbean cruise in the Caribbean and they have a great channel on
the in-cabin television system called "Retro-TV" where they show classic TV
shows like Dobie Gillis, Meet the Angels and You Bet Your Life, to name a
few. They also showed a few TAGS episodes. I actually saw the "Andy of
Mayberry" opening for the first time. That's another reason to take a RCI
cruise! Hope everyone is doing well.
Take care!

I believe the actual line is, "Since you're busy Mr. Marconi, I'll get the
carburetor put on the patrol car". Marconi was an iventor who iscresited
with developing wireless telegraphy around the early 1900's.

Albright in the color class reunion episode after he finds out Thelma Lou

that are also Barney's landlords,3. Teena Andrews4. The two secretaries

OK...OK...I am enjoying the state game and couldn't wait until you got to
the O's as I live in Ohio. I could not think of one reference to the Buckeye
state. I know it was posted the other day about in the episode when Otis
gave Barney directions...can you give me a little more detail about the rest
of this episode...so I know which one it is.
Speaking of Barney, I am a reported at a daily newspaper. This weekend I
broke a story when a local BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation) undercover
agent left his loaded gun in a restroom at a medical building and a 9 year
old boy went in there and found it. Fortunately, no one was hurt or
injured...but while writing the story I kept picturing Barney every time I
thought of the agent. "He's a regular Barney Fife." It not only made my work
more fune but it also made it go much faster. Skippy, one of Mayberry's fun
girls. Becareful with that one, it's my trigger finger. OK then, I'll just
do nine.
