This is true. My Dad was also JB, named for his father's initials. Mary

>>>Hey everybody. I was wondering if anybody knows how to make the paper
tree and ladder that Malcolm made for Opie? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Horatio (Kevin)

I remember making those as a kid. I had a book with those instructions in
it; seems like it may have been by Bennett Cerf. Check the kids' section of
your local library.

Barney actually calls Gomer both names in the same. Gomer just pops off at
the word "Boob", which is repeated four times (twice apiece for Barney and
Gomer) versus Barney just saying "Ol' Nutsey here" once. That might be why
it's remembered like that. BTW, one of the funniest things I have ever seen
is Barney's mocking of the way Gomer yelled "Citizen's a-RAYST! Citizens
ah-RAYST!"

Am I doing something wrong or does it just take a while for help to come
through? Just asking. Not mad. I was looking for answers to the following
questions.

1. What night of the week to Barney and Thelma Lou usually eat cashew
fudge?

2. Who eats ice cream sundaes with pickles on top?

3. Who in Mayberry has the nickname "cream puff"?

4. What were the only words spoken by Doug Darling?

5. According to Goober, where can you get the best mashed potatoes in
Mayberry?

Thanks,

Marty

winning answer was from Tim
Sallee.<<<

Hey Jimbo_--I was one who got your question wrong the first time, and then
according to your response, the second one right with my second guess....but
to say that 'boob' was wrong, aren't you kinda seeing bats when others see
butterflies?? (Barney's inkblot test)

It's a good question, that may have two correct answers?? It really is a
most memorable scene. I love how Joe Hamilton and others in the crowd start
cheering for Gomer.

>>What about Otis when he got his drivers license and bought a car . Andy
and Barney stood outside his cell and made him believe he was killed in a
car crash!!! Andy Holley<<<

You're right Andy! That's one I had in mind with the question. There are
still two more occasions (at least) besides that and the other correct
answers already given..Tom Silby, Barney (when the ladies thought he shot
himself), Emma (when she didn't get her pills), and Jimmy the goat. Who
else was mourned in his own presence? 3 individuals--2 occasions

Hey Pa, (I mean Paul) I can't think of anything in Utah or South Dakota.

Otis, you just stood naked before me" (Barney)
"Andy, I did not" (Otis)

Maudy gave the correct answer as to what Barney called Gomer over the
"Citizens arrest" issue. "BOOB". Mr. Andy Holley of LA. was wrong......it
was not "Nutsey" Nutsey was used afterward. Barney called Barney a "Boob"
first, then Andy came out......Barney said, "Nutsey" here......

My favorite one-liners:"Jailsick walk with me, Jailsick dance with me,
Jailsick kiss my mouth"; "Leonard Blush", Leonard Blush, Leonard Blush!!!";
"Andy, If you flew a quail through here, every woman in the room would
point" (Barney referring to them as "dogs"

Gas dries very fast. I once suffered an oversplash in filling up the
car and went on to the store. Other customers thought there was a gas
leak in the building cuz my blouse looked dry.. Boy was I embarrassed!

Subject: Howard Morris & Betty Lynn Autograph Session in Mount Airy

This Saturday, February 9th from 12:30-2:00pm, Howard Morris and Betty Lynn
will be signing autographs at the Main-Oak Emporium in downtown Mount Airy.
This will be the only opportunity to meet them before they perform "Love
Letters" later than night.

Tickets for the dinner theatre performance are still available by calling
the Surry Arts Council. Details are on their website at www.surryarts.org.

Something else for those of you who can stick around town thru Sunday -
WBMUTBB member Ann Vaughn of the Mount Airy Visitors Center and the Gilmer
Smith Foundation is hosting "Dedicated to the Ones We Love" that afternoon.
This is a free event with special music, refreshments, flowers for the
ladies, and recognition of Valentine's lovers of all ages. When you stop by
the Visitors Center to see the new Andy Griffith items on display, ask for
more details on Sunday's activities too!

I look forward to seeing and meeting WBMUTBB friends in Mount Airy this
weekend!

Subject: Man In A Hurry

Well I am going to have to respectfully debate the post Charlie Varney from
concerning the questionable ranking of the top episodes.

Now if I read the post right Charlie Varney called into question the ranking
of !0Man In a Hurry!1 as the number one episode. Now while I will concede
that is a difficult task to assign ONE episode as the BEST TAGS out there, I
have to argue that if you were forced to do so, !0Man In A Hurry!1 would
definitely be it. I will admit that I find myself laughing harder at
!0Three Wishes For Opie!1 but as far as the Mayberry Ideal, I think you
would be hared pressed to find a better example than !0Man In A Hurry.!1

!0MIH!1 paints the most complete picture of that ideal place that draws us
to the show. The gospel of Mayberry is never so clearly stated as it is
throughout this episode. We all long to be Mr. Tucker, aching to find
ourselves stranded in a place that defines itself not by the standards of
the outside world, but instead anchors its existence on the frying of
chicken, a nap on the porch, and the respect for the Sabbath. In my opinion
!0Man In A Hurry!1 IS The Andy Griffith Show.

Not only are the themes and ideals of TAGS exemplified in !0Man In A Hurry!1
the actual production represents the ideal as well. The presence of Gomer
reassures us as fans that we are still light-years away from the coming of
the color episodes, Andy has evolved as a character (and Actor) from the
hillbilly antics that had spilled over from his standup routines into the
early episodes, and is at that perfect balance, not yet having turned into
the more harsh and irritated character that emerged after the departure of
Barney, and who is also at that perfect plateau, having moved away from the
slap stick based humor of the early episodes, but not yet near the more
pathetic character that emerges in his !0Return!1 episodes during the later
years. Both Andy and Barney shine in this episode as having arrived as
confident characters, completely aware of who they are and the nature of
their relationship (both to one another and to the town.)

In closing I will say that I have often debated why the spoiled Teenager
episode (with Bill Bixby) has not typically battled !0Man In A Hurry!1 for
the top spot. It seems to emphasize the same ideas that make us love
!0MIH!1, while at the same time giving us a glimpse of Andy as parent (the
busted window scene) as well as allowing us a fishing scene. Well, that!/s
a question for another day.

Sorry for the long winded reply.

!0Call him a rebel rouser!!1

I believe the question Al asked was: What did Andy
say when he heard the commotion between Barney and
Gomer, after Barney gave Gomer a ticket for a u-turn?
If my memory serves me correctly, Barney calls Gomer
"nutsy", in fact he says: "Oh ole nutsy here"........!
To which Gomer says there oughta be a number law to
cover that! By the way I did not cheat by looking it
up!!!!

....who looks foolish now Sheriff?......

Hi there!

Thanks to all of the members that wrote in and reassured me that Goober did
indeed enjoy being "Goober". I kinda thought so anyways and I don't always
believe everything I hear on the tv or radio.

Can anyone tell me how old Burt Mustin was when he died and the year he died?
 Thanks for the info.

Lots of Luck to you and yours,
Jenny
