Has anyone else seen Ron Howard in the movie version of the musical, "The
Music Man?"
He played the little boy "Winthrop," and was just delightful. The copyright
date on the
film was 1961, so it was filmed close to the start of TAGS.....if you haven't
seen it, I think
you would enjoy it!

I would like to thank Allen for hosting my "Mayberry in Startrek" web pages.
Old man Weaver (my ISP) only lets me have x amount of bandwidth per month and
I was blown away at how many people were coming to look at the web page.
Any way the page is alive and well now on the TAGSRWC web site. There is a
link
from the main page to it.
Thanks again Allen

Subject: Mayberry-like towns
I just returned from a 3-day get-away-from-it-all vacation.
Unfortunately, the destination I chose (Destin, FL) didn't help very
much--it was very crowded and not very relaxing. I believe that some
towns with similar qualities as Mayberry would have been much better.
I'm sure that many of our members have knowledge of these peaceful
places and would gladly pass it along. So where can we go for a few
relaxing days (with the exception of Mt. Airy) to catch our breath?

For Virginia I can think of several:
Barney mentions Natural Bridge ( just a couple of exits north on I-81 from
me)
Barney and his mother go to Charlottesville
Andy and Helen go to Richmond to see a publisher
Aunt Bee mentions West Virginia several times and I believe that is where
Howard's girlfriend Millie is from.
Hope everyone is doing well!!

I always thought that if I met Andy I'd ask him to take me
"frog giggin" - I just like the sound of that and I'll bet
Aunt Bee could whomp us up a batch of frog legs with a side
order of green beans, chinese style.

I've been waiting for this one - Bob Rogers told me that
Code 304, The Green River Ordinance is a real reference to
the town of Green River, Wyoming. You could look it up in
the the law officer's manual, it's right there next to the
section on bulletin board maintenance. You have read the
manual, haven't you?
>Green River, Wyoming first served as a stagecoach station on the Central
>Overland Express stage line. The town then became a major division point for
>the Union Pacific Railroad in the late 1860s as the transcontinental railroad
>tracked West.
>
>A town ordinance prohibiting salesmen from soliciting door-to-door traces its
>history to the early years when railroad employees worked odd hours and needed
>daytime sleep. The railroad is still a major employer.

As for my question about divorce, Charlene and Dud were the ones I was thinking
about when I asked the question. I'm glad that she decided to go back with him,
because he seemed like he really loved her and I'm sure she loved him too. And
anyway, I'm not sure that doing incantations is going to hold up in a court of
law when you're trying to divorce someone. :)

Didn't Andy once take Thelma Lou's cousin out to shoot crows? That was before
she out shot him at a shooting competition.

Hey everyone,
Debbie in S.C. was talking about the Christmas scene when Opie acts so
naturally in the setting. This made me think of something that has always
fascinated me, what are you favorite back-ground activates of the actors. I
always liked watching the interaction of Aunt Bee and Opie as they sat in
the back seat while Barney starts his car. I love listening to Aunt Bee
tell the !0Bed Jacket!1 story on the phone as Andy explains to Opie the
concept of !0Real Heart Warming Pleasure.!1
Here is another thought, how many instances can you think of where the
Barney Andy interaction is completely normal, no comedy (no laugh track), no
melodrama, just plain boring interaction. One I can think of us in the
!0Trey!1 episode in the sequence when Opie notices Trey looking through the
window of the courthouse. In the background we can hear Andy and Barney
talking about having the car filled up with gas, and Andy telling Barney to
look at some reports or such. Any others?
!0Is that like Ha Ha?!1
Steve Mitchell

Howdy Mayberry pals,
I hope Allan has my good spotter card ready. I
noticed on TV-Land last night on the episode "Andy and Helen have their day"
that on the end credits that they had spelled George Lindsey as Lindsay. And on
the next episode"Three wishes for Opie" they had the spelling correct again.
Thanks,
Freddie Armstrong
