Hi all...

Just a comment to "Dapper Dan" for doing a great job with the Mayberry/Star
Trek page. It was just what I expected and it's great.

Our new Minister of Music, Ron Cook, is not only a huge TAGS fan, but a
member of this very group. Well, every Sunday, we always stand up and greet
everyone around us. The staff comes down off the podium and wanders around
some. Well, ol' Ron made it all the way up to me, stuck out his hand and
said "Goober says hey!" Kinda of caught me off guard, you don't expect that
real early on Sunday morning, but I did manage to come back with the proper
response: "Hey to Goober!"

One such instance I can think of is most of the last scene in the first class
reunion episode, where Andy and Barney are cleaning up. Andy brings up one
of the funniest lines of the show for a third time, but this time it's
serious: "Barney, do the tears on your pillow bespeak the pain in your
heart?" Barney says yes and Andy says he too. One of my favorite scenes
ever with them.

Barney was reading a newspaper to Andy in the courthouse and asked andy
"guess who got married"
and Andy guessed correctly. Then barney asked him "guess who's getting
divorced". I can't remember
the names but I believe one of the spouses was soakin' up the sauce.

There is a very nice multimedia presentation and article about Snappy Lunch
at the Raleigh New & Observer website.

Thanks very much for the link, Jeff! On that same page there's also a great
story about Mt. Airy's own WPAQ radio station. Thanks again.

Subject: BACKGROUND ACTING

The best background acting had to be Floyd eating the banana and tapping
his foot while Barney tried to dance Big Maude out the door in the episode
where he and Floyd were held captive at O'Malley's cabin. Big Maude was
played by the same actress who played Barney's voice teacher (Elinora
Poultice) and one of the other feamle captives showed up again as one of
the fun girls and kept calling Barney "Al." "Al, you've changed."

Wisconsin, Wisconsin! I finally get to repeat my Wisconsin entry for the
state list. Milwaukee's skyline is mentioned by Frank Myers, as he's going
through his box of valuables and comes across his special spoon. ("Mayberry
Goes Bankrupt") I fully understand why he'd keep it as a treasure in his
special box!

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly notes that George Nader died
Feb.
4 in Woodland Hills, Calif., at the age of 80 from heart problems. Nader
played Dr. Robert Benson in Episode 24, "The New Doctor."

I don't think the proceedings were dug up because the Darling boys stopped
Andy. Then poor Barney had to get on that horse to ride East to West - or was
that North to South? The horse wasn't too sure about the direction, either...

Subject: Lines from Mayberry

I, like many of you try to incorporate lines from
Mayberry into my daily life. I am an airline pilot
and I find this to be fun with the passengers as well
as my crew. Most people don't pick up on my
silliness. There have been one or two occassions when
someone has picked up and said, "Andy Griffith!"

This past week I was flying from Newark to Atlanta.
Air traffic control asked to fly fast for sequencing
into Atlanta. As we were flying along, my first
officer and I were trying to figure out who a couple
of airplanes were that we were passing. We thought we
had it figured out until our conversation with ATC
indicated otherwise. Upon realizing we had mistaken
another aircraft for someone it wasn't, I looked at
the mistaken identity aircraft and used a line from
Ernest T. I quite simply said, "I wunder who that
could be?" My first officer obviously didn't pick up
on it, but I sure got a kick out of it myself. Good
thing it was dark. I'm sure he would have wondered
what I found to be so funny.

I think the episode is "Mayberry goes Bankrupt" where Frank Myers is behind on
his taxes and going through his "valuables" when he comes across an item that
has the skyline of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Subject: Newspapers in Mayberry
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 Fellow Members,

After watching a recent episode (#136 Opie's Fortune)
I started to think about mentions of newspapers on
TAGS. After a number of sleepless nights I begin to
write down different mentions of newspapers and
delivery times/days etc. I thought that in episode
#136 Barney said, "this town needs a daily newspaper."
And following the story line the Sheriff's office gets
the paper on Wednesdays after 3pm. But in episode #124
The Return of Malcolm Merriweather didn't Malcolm hand
Aunt Bee a newspaper and said something like "perhaps
you would like to read the morning paper" and also in
episode #89 Andy's English Valet when Malcolm handed
Andy the paper and said something like "Your morning
paper sir, wind from the southwest temperature 74."
Did the Taylors get the paper in the morning and the
jail didn't get it until 3pm? Or did the Taylors take
another newspaper? These are some of the mentions of
Newspapers I could think of and I'm sure there are
more and maybe someone knows which newspapers were
delivered when and to whom. Maybe someone can help me
sleep better and answer these questions!
