The reason for slitting shoes was to ease a sore spot such as a bunion or
corn. Those can be very painful so the shoe was slit at that point to ease
the pain of the corn or bunion.

The first clock that jumped into my mind was the one that Ange and Barn
stare at while waiting at the courthouse for Opie, who is about to confront
the bully that kept taking his milk money.
And by the way, no offense to Phil Sunkel, I'm sure he's a swell fellow,
but Sunkel just isn't a $20,000 name. I'm not really sure its worth $5000.
Now Throckmorton, that's a name worth some real dough.

opened both doors for him, Member??? "Well I'll See ya" Mary From Ga.

For those of you who are interested or didn't know: The actor playing
the storekeeper Mr. Doaks in last night's TVLand episode about Opie
competing for a job was none other than the great Norris Goff. Mr. Goff
achieved some amount of fame earlier in his career inventing and playing
the old-time radio character "Abner Peabody" of Lum and Abner. This
time, he played the character a little less "nave".

Hey Derron:

We saw both doors open when Otis rides into the
Sheriff's office on the cow. I don't remember the
episode name but it is the one where Otis gets mad at
Barney for placing handcuffs on him and Otis leaves
the Mayberry jail to take his business to Mt. Pilot.

Have a great Mayberry Day!!

Blue's real name was named Pluto, and he was owned by legendary animal
trainer Frank Inn. Frank Inn worked on just about every TV show ever made
(seems like it, anyway). When he was given a script, it was probably left
up to him to select the best animal for the role. It's only natural that
he'd use the most talented dogs over and over. In other TAGS episodes,
Pluto played Floyd's dog Sam and Goober's dog Spot.

His most famous animals were Benji (I think he was the same little dog who
had previously appeared on "Petticoat Junction") and Arnold the pig on
"Green Acres." Here's a nice article about Mr. Inn:

1. Los Olivos, CA. It didn't look too much like Mayberry, but they didn't
have the type of budget to reconstruct everything exactly. I understand the
courthouse facade used in the film was kept intact, and is still there to
this day. Has anybody been there to see it? (I haven't).

2. Yes, every classic Mayberry character was played by the original actor,
except for Aunt Bee's voiceover in the cemetery. Mitch Jayne (the bass
player) had a beard in the film, so maybe you didn't recognize him.

Can anyone tell me about the history of the painting the Angelus. In the
background of the picture, it looks a lot like Chimney Rock, a landmark in
Nebraska, that was important to the pioneers of the Oregon Trail.

>> Also, when Goober took the car apart in the courthouse, we know he had to
open both front
doors to the courthouse. Have we ever seen both of them open on any other
episode?<<

Derron, When Otis rides the cow, both courthouse doors are opened. I
noticed because it looks a little strange. Andy and Barney each grab a door
to swing them open, presumably not know who or what is coming through. As
far as that other door, its never used, so we can only speculate.

>I've got another question that everyone but me probably knows: What is a
white elephant sale?<<

Well, it when Sam Becker's White Elephant gets all muddy and then he has to
sell it, because it raises too much suspicion with a certain deputy! (not
really)

>>Lastly, does anyone know the name of the actor whose only line I can
recall in the entire series is "How'd they do it Sheriff? referring to the
car in the courthouse? He's a face in the crowd very often but is an
"unknown"<<<

Mari Ellen, that man is the legend, that is Tom Jacobs, brother of Danny
Thomas, who for years was referred to on this Digest as Johnny Coons. Its
fun to watch for him isn't it? Its sometimes tough to spot him without his
white hat.

I have a trained noticer comment about some invisible turncoats. In the
episode "Ellie for Council", when the chant starts "We want Ellie, We want
Ellie" a brass band seems to join in the chant by playing along with the
chant, except, we see no band! All other appearances by the Mayberry Band
indicate that it is always all-male. (I'm not talking about the class
reunion Episodes when the Librarian plays the saxophone). So who was
playing? It had to be the "boys" in the band, who at that point had to be
turncoats just like Barney...until Andy's speech.

Speaking' for Untrained Voices everywhere, I'm for that.

Hello all, or can I just say hey, cause I'm more used to that?
A furbelow is a kind of fancy ruffle or something like it on a lady's dress.
In the episode, Andy uses the word to mean the guy is being real showy by
jazzing up the music instead of playing it "quaint".

Well, I'm not a trained noticer, like some of y'all, but I do think there was
a clock in the Taylor's kitchen, on the wall near the phone ... I seem to
remember Andy looking in that direction in several episodes, when he was
getting ready to leave for the courthouse.

Hey Derron and Everyone! When Otis rides the cow into the courthouse (after
returning from Mt. Pilot jail) both doors are opened by Andy. I always
wondered why Goober didn't just put down a set of planks and drive that car
out! (speed, speed, speed!) It seemed like it would fit if both doors were
open but it wouldn't be near as much fun as it turned out!

When Otis rode through the courthouse door on the cow. I believe Andy and
Barney pulled both doors open to let him in. They must have known who was
coming from the sound of that cow bell ringing.

the black and white shows was so good and the return was so pitiful. but =
then even the color TAGS weren't as good. but i am a real fan of the b/w =

YO,
I saw an episode of "Automobiles" on the History
channel and they mentioned that Mr. Henry Ford was
working on his first automobile in the shed/garage
behind his house and when it was completed it wouldn't
fit through the door! But instead of taking his car
apart He tore down part of the wall. I wonder why
Goober didn't think of that? Course if he did do that
Andy probably WOULD have taken that gun and shot
him...LOL

Now, we all know that Otis is the character on the show that has been
in the Mayberry jail the most times. What character is second, though? I
think it could be our dear, sweet Aunt Bee! In tonight's episode, Warren
jailed her (and the other ladies) for gambling. I know that Barney jailed her
(and the whole town) at least once. Would someone please put a bucket on
their heads and do some thinking? If not Aunt Bee, then who? (not which
actor, but which character - there's a difference, ya know!)
By the way, I think Warren was funny and did a good job as Andy's
"idiot Deputy" and should receive a little more credit than he got.
