I know that's the name of a Griffith Episode but I had to chuckle at the
irony, when last night (Wed) on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Ron Howard
got up and did a little jig as he talked about trying to look cool for his
kids at dance spot (I was a little sleepy so I didn't get the whole story).
Jay had mentioned that his real paw (Rance Howard) was backstage. Rom
reminded me so much of Andy, when he did that ridiculous attempt at modern
dance in the same situation (trying to fit it with the kids).

When Jay asked Ron what acting he'd done in the last 20 years, Ron asked
"does the Andy Griffith Show reunion, Return to Mayberry count?" and a cheer
came up out of the crowd. Fans are everywhere!

In the latest issue of Biography Magazine, they list their top 15 favorite
Biography segments for their TV show. Guess who made the list...along with
the likes of Oprah and the Gambino family? Ron Howard AND Don Knotts...so
watch for reruns of those favorites.

I'd like to start a new topic of discussion if anyone is interested. Let's
call it.
UNSEEN SCENES. What instances can you think of where something happens off
camera, that we only see the affect of? We may or may not hear sound affects
of the event. Here is an example. Opie's fight with the Bully. We don't
see it, (the fight, the punch) but we see the black eye. I can think of a
few more painful and not-so-painful examples.
What other Unseen scene's can you think of?

I hate it when you get obtuse

I think, as had been said before in this forum, that the writers were
writing as if Don Knotts was playing Warren. In all fairness, who could have
replaced Barney? No one.
He is one of a kind.

Thanks to you, Margaret, for your update on Mary Stuart. I didn't know she had
died. I feel very sad, as I watch her on guiding light and she is such a
matriarch of the soap opera.
I appreciate your letting us know.
I sure didn't realize Don Knotts was on Search for Tomorrow.
Somehow I just can't see " Barney" on a soap. HAHAHAH

TAGS Fans,

I think of "Return to Mayberry" every time I go to my favorite pizza
place here in Denver. There are several of them around town and they are
all decorated with old pictures of Denver that are fun to look at---and
picture how that particuar spot looks now. As my wife and I look at the
pictures, it's inevitable that one of us will point at a picture and say,
"Look, here's a picture of this place when it was the old Shanghai
Gardens."

Howdy friends!
I had a compelshen to write. I was flipping through a couple of channels the
other day (I ferget which one it was) and the Lucy show was on. It was the
later (color) show in which Vivian Vance co-starred with her. I didn't see
the whole show, but they were carrying a statue up some stairs and Lucy being
Lucy, it was a disaster. The only reason I stopped on the channel was the
statue caught my eye and it shore-'nuff did look a whole lots like ole Seth
Taylor hisself...makes ya thaink! Well, I'm startin' to get a sinkin' spell,
so I'm gonna go get me a Mr. Cookie bar....

Rodney got me to thinkin' about Ken Berry as a deputy. Although he had a
serious nature, Ken is a really good comedian. I'm thinking about F-Troop
where he was bum-fuzzled most of the time and tried to be serious but he was
really a hoot. He sort of took Andy's place in Mayberry RFD. I could see
where the MRFD skits could have been written for the original Mayberry
characters. My choice for deputy replacement would have been Tim Conway but
I understand he was busy on a PT boat at the time.

Hey Everybody,

I just love reading all your comments on the digest,
it makes me feel "right at home".

Someone asked the question about when Andy and Barney
are after the "bad guys"?? I think just about one of
my favorite ones, is from the first year of TAGS.
Opie is very small and thinks his Pa is the smartest
man on earth. A convict escapes and is suspected to
be headed into the Mayberry area, Andy and Barney try
to help the state police out, but are told to stay out
of it. I personally think they should receive a
"rude" for the way they treated Andy and Barney who
were only trying to be helpful. Emma Watson/Brand
helps them out without really knowing it, and Andy and
Barney save the day!

A few digest's ago the question was asked about when
both courthouse doors were open. I noticed on the
episode where Barney arrests Emma Watson/Brand that
the left door of the Courthouse was open when she left
the courthouse, but I can't say for sure if the right
one was open also. Anyone else notice??

>>>So here's my question: What are the best AGS episodes that feature our
heroes doing their best law-enforcement work?

I'd have to pick "Barney Gets His Man." Most of the episodes in which Andy
and Barney do actual lawman's work are mostly just played for laughs, but
"Barney Gets His Man" has some serious moments, such as the scene where the
killer is hiding in the hay loft.

Another good one is "Jailbreak," especially the scene where Andy learns that
Mr. Horton has been captured by the crooks, who are holding him captive at
the trailer park.

Hello to everybody! This is the first time I've posted here!

I'm the proud owner of not one, but two cookbooks from Mayberry. The first one
is called "Aunt Bee's Mayberry Cookbook" and the most recent one I purchased
was "Aunt Bee's Delightful Desserts". I love and treasure them both, and some
days, just pull 'em off the shelf to read the bits of dialogue from the show.
I always laugh out loud when reading the conversation between Barney and Andy
about Halcyon Loretta Winslow----ugliest girl you ever saw in your life!" I
especially love the line from Barney, 'She's still ugly, single, and pitting
prunes." A classic.

I think these books are wonderful, not only for the great recipes, but there's
so much besides, like dialogue, pictures etc. They are worth checking out!
Some of the titles of the recipes are so funny.Plus a few cast members have
contributed to the recipe collection.

Wanna know somethin' Pa? A sandwich sure tastes better with milk!

Bye,

Just wanted to let everyone who has asked know what entertainment is planned
for next Friday's (March 15) Musi'Kal in Cumming. Besides the infamous
"Mayberry Deputy" who is enough entertainment to always be a great time of
laughter, we plan to have the following:

Three Solos, the High School Chorous, the First Baptist Praise Team, two
separate Blue Grass Groups, a childrens storyteller, a duet, a piano/flutist
duet, a piano soloist, and a special appearance of Aunt Effie (comedian).

Thanks for all the "My Home Town" folks who have called and emailed their
support. Again the tickets are $10 for adults in advance ($12 at the door)
and can be purchased by calling 770-889-8304 or by email at

Though I don't watch episodes after #159 anymore, I
have seen them all many times. I actually liked Jack
Burns' Warren character. I thought he was one of the
few highlights of the show in the latter years.
Though his "Yankee" accent was out of place, he was
very interesting. But after his pal Don Knotts left,
I think Andy would never have been able to find a
suitable replacement for that marvelous chemistry that
he and Don shared. It was effortless. "A
beeaauuutiful thing to watch". It's been speculated
that that is why Andy always appeared somewhat upset
and irritated after season 5, as well as the change in
writing, directors, etc. As far as other potential
deputy "mates" for Andy, what about:

Jerry Van Dyke
Tim Conway
Wally Cox
Tony Randall
Fred Gywnne
The first Darrin on Bewitched
Maj. Healey from IDOJ
Goober Beasley/Pyle
Gilley Walker (any kin to Ellie?)
Otis Campbell
Jud
Malcolm Merriwether
Ernest T. Bass
Andy's Uncle Ollie
One of the "Fun Girls"

The list is endless.
