Congratulations Ron Howard! You've come a long way from a D in Arithmetic,
and carryin' groceries!

>>>
Joe, you forgot to tell us where Loon Lake Lodge is located. Maybe we
can go when we travel. I love Rainforest Cafe so would enjoy this place
too! <<<

Well OK, I thought maybe you'd just think I was crazier that a loon. This
restaurant is on the Northeast corner or Indianapolis, just off of
Interstate 69, north of I-465 (82nd St exit).
Speaking of restaurants...Someone mentioned about a week ago an "Aunt Bee's
Restaurant in Lawrence IN. I was about to ask where it was, but I think I
found it by chance yesterday.
Right down Franklin road from Lawrence Park??? But they spell Bee, B-E-A.
I wonder if that is to avoid any licensing issues??

Anita, enjoyed your reference to the pansies, and how we notice Mayberry in
life. Believe it or not, last weekend I went to "the Chamber of Commerce
Dinner Dance" It wasn't quite the same experience as Mayberry. I don't
have one of the suits that hangs just right for the dip, and I can't do that
little dance that Barney does with the broom in his hand. BUT they did have
a door prize!. I didn't see no stag line of hunched over teenage boys
either.

Here's one more Mayberry parallel. Any of you NCAA basketball fans may know
that the Indiana Hoosiers pulled a big upset last week. (sorry Duke fans).
At the end of the game, there were a few seconds left, and they are up by 4
points. Basically the prisoner (their opponent) is in jail, and they would
have to do something stupid to blow it. With 4 seconds remaining an Indiana
player fouled a guy shooting a three-pointer, meaning he had a chance for a
4-point play. The players name??? Dane Fife. It must be a family
characteristic. He let the opponent right out of jail. But the free throw
was missed and one of Fife's buddies (just like Andy) came to the rescue
with a big rebound. Fife was rescued again.

So what kind of homecoming parade do you think they're preparing in Mayberry
for Opie, now that he's won the Oscar and all?

I was very pleased and very touched to hear Ron Howard say he had replayed
that scene (his win) thousands of time in his mind. Even though he never
mentioned Mayberry in his acceptance speech, he was still very classy and
said some very kind and moving things about his parents, especially his late
mother Jean. Sure, most people will say the night belonged to Denzel
Washington and Halle Berry (and quite frankly I would agree, especially with
Halle) but it was still a very touching a long awaited moment nonetheless,
from a truly great and classy guy.

To answer your question, Doug, Don Knotts won five Emmys altogether. I
think that may even be close to a record for the actor having won the most

In the court house, they shoot scenes from all 4 walls, so we see each side
of the room, but I don't remember seeing the right side of Floyds, the
common wall with the court house. This would be the wall in the barber shop
with all the tools of the trade along with the standard bank of mirrors. Of
course, the very presence of the bank of mirrors is problematic for a camera
shot so maybe they chose not to fool with that. The only thing I recall is
Floyd rushing up to a mirror on that side and calling himself a wretch.
Anybody recall a right wall shot of the barber shop?

As far as visitors go, I would have to say that Mr. Jackson, the newspaper man
was probably the meanest. He went to great lengths to destroy Andy. All Andy
did was enforce a minor traffic violation. He didn't apply outrageous fees or
penalties, he didn't make a big "moulage" out of it or anything yet Mr.
Jackson develops a rather wicked plan to bring Andy down.

That would've been the pilot episode when Andy is talking to Opie about his
mother. Oh, BTW, I would like to add my congratulations to Ron Howard on
finally being recognized for the great director that he is and winning the
Oscar.

It has often been mentioned that we never saw the
Juanita that Barney flirted with.

I kept thinking there was a Juanita that I saw
somewhere in the show. Finally I thought of the
mayor's daughter, Juanita Pike. She appeared to be
about 18 or 19.

I started thinking of all of the considerations that
Juanita Pike would be the same Juanita that Barney
dated.

When Juanita Pike graduated from high school where
could she get a job in Mayberry? The diner is
certainly a good possibility.

Also how many Juanitas would live in a town the size
of Mayberry?

Then I came to the age difference. Barney was
probably about 35 and Juanita was 18 or 19. I don't
think that would be any problem.

My ancestors are from Arkansas and Oklahoma. It was
often mentioned that many of the men, in my family,
married teen aged girls when the men were in their
forties. Therefore, I think it would be appropriate
that 35 year old Barney would date a woman of 19.
Especially, since Barney was held to such a high
esteem by the community.

I believe that we did see the Juanita that Barney
flirted with and dated.

Any other thoughts on this subject?

humble, and he gave emotional credit to his parents.

>> Just curious what scenes everyone else finds to be annoying... many of
these may be by design, so it's not necessarily a bad thing; an annoying
scene can certainly be intentional and important to the plot of the episode

I understand the category. My nomination for "meant to be annoying" is the
Gypsy music. I'm not sure how many times they play/sing that same song, but
it grates on me after a while.

Episode 26, The Inspector, I think is the one you are thinking of, where
Andy an Banrey get locked in the cell and they are reaching for the keys

TAGS earned a total of six Emmys (Emmies?) as follows: Don Knotts won Best

I think if you look real close you'll see that the bar over the gun

is hanging off to the side, as opposed to being completely gone. I think.

Even when the bar is locked securely in place, it's useless. In "TV or not

would be just as easy to remove one.

The only time I ever recall any mention of andy's wife
was in the episode where Aunt Bee was supposedly dating
(Mr. Goss?), and Opie asks "Did you and mom have that
kind of love"? and Andy replies "yes son, we did"
I don't recall any other references to her. If there
are, I must be tetched in the head.

Oh, by the way, I was up in Clemson, S.C. last week for

still believe he was the best comediac actor I ever saw, anytime
anywhere...I absolutely love that man!!! He has made me laugh harder and
longer than any comedian; this man was and is a genius as far as I'm
concerned! I've heard people say" Michael Richards is hysterical" (Kramer)
but Don Knotts is way funnier and without using obscene or indescent
material....he makes us laugh at the funniest thing of all...our own human

I've got to jump in here on this one. I sure hope I don't get a rude. And
I am sure the actor playing the part of Josh Wakefield in the episode "A
Feud is a Feud" was doing the very best that he could. But, when Mr.
Wakefield and Mr. Carter are standing in Andy's living room with their guns
and Josh says "You might as well shoot me now Mr. Carter." If Mrs. Wiley
would've been there, she would have definitely thought Josh was from Back
Bay Boston.

Now this isn't meant to hurt the feelings of those folks to the north, but
Josh just doesn't have the southern accent that everyone else in the episode
has. This is a great episode that gave Andy Griffith a chance to do his
Romeo and Juliet stand up bit. And I almost fall out of my chair when Andy
starts counting in French and Mr. Wakefield and Mr. Carter just stand there.
Oh well, just my two cents worth. Am I the only one that feels this way???
