There were a bunch in fact. The same episode that has Goober "taking off" on
Cary Grant also has him doing the same for Edward G. Robinson (hilarious
facial expression). And don't forget when the Taylors went to Hollywood,
Cesar Romero's maid through Opie off their front lawn. And then there's the
classic scene in which Barney is coming his hair and looking to a picture of
Rock Hudson for inspiration, one of my favorite non-verbal Barney scenes
ever.

Probably because TV Land only has the rights to a certain number of runs of
TAGS, and they showed those eps in a marathon or something.

I taped the "TV Road Trip" on the Travel Channel and watched it later. I
really enjoyed the piece on TAGS, showing the place where the opening was
shot and then going to Mt. Airy. It was nice to see the Snappy Lunch and the
real Floyd's. Can you imagine being in the midst of eating your pork chop
sandwich and seeing Goober walk through the door! What a treat for those
folks. I thought it was great. My only disappointment was that they didn't
mention "Mayberry Days" they way they mentioned a big Superman gathering
that happens yearly in Metropolis, IL. And it would have been nice to see
Allan, David Browning, or Jim Clark giving us the benefit of their wisdom,
too.

But overall, I thought it was a fun show.

A may have stumbled onto the origin of Andy's expression "You're a bird in
this world."

Seems there was a Latin poem a looooong time ago that referred to "A rare
bird on this earth, like nothing so much as a black swan," (Juvenal, *Omnia
Romae*). Later "rare bird" came to mean a prodigy or a one-of-a-kind
personality. You know, "different." Surely in some places instead of "rare
bird" the expression "a bird in this world" means the same thing, and comes
from "a rare bird on this earth."

Hey Ted and All,
I also noticed Howard looking toward the heavens in thankfulness, and your
right , you never see that in today's, TV. I believe that we will never again
see it, reason being that the world is at a constant strive to remove God and
erase the belief from followers, children are not allowed to pray in schools,
and teachers are not allowed to mention the existence, you know , we wouldn't
want to "offend anyone". However they don't mind offending us by using the
Lord's name in vain on TV and movies, that's ok, your allowed to do that!

That's one of the greatest things I LOVE about The Andy Griffith Show, they
all went to Church and you were allowed to see them there, on TV. Like I said
the world is trying to erase God, just like the scriptures tell, and it won't
happen, just like the scriptures tell. Long Live The Andy Griffith Show!
God Bless

In the episode where they're making a movie in Mayberry, Barn asks the
director if he'd ever met so-and-so. The director says yes and relates their
brief, uneventful conversation. Barn then says that so-and-so is a funny
duck. As usual my memory has failed me because I can't remember who
so-and-so is.
I'm a poor excuse for a trained noticer, but I aspire to a much higher
standard.

I think Barney needs to focus on Opie as his number one suspect (Able?)

Don't forget, in a later television show, Richie Cunningham's older
taller basketball bouncing brother Chuck disappeared with no further
mention also.

Makes you thank, don't it?

Great Question

Lessee, here's some more

Aunt Bee was kind of stuck on Rock Hudson, if I recall
and Barney once combed his hair using ole Rock as inspiration

Barney liked those George Raft movies

You had this one, but Somebody tell Goober that William Holden was in
Picnic, not Cary Grant

I remember Gregory Peck being mentioned also, cant remember who or where

Barney watched Glen Ford in G-Men before criticizing the bank's
security, didn't he?

There's got to be more, going to find my bucket!

I've got a cousin from Maryland who I like to kid
around with about her accent. She asks, "What do you
put your head on at night?" I tell her a "pillar" and
she argues is "pillow". I tell her that they might
have pillows in MD, we have pillars in VA. I can't
help it if they messed up the way it sounds.

Kind of like the ep about Nathan Tibbs. When Andy
talks to Barney about the spellin' of his last name.
Barney says that they had to spell it right some time.

Who's to say the way we do things ain't the right way,
and all these "educated" people messed it up when they
wrote the books.

I can't believe there's a whole group of people as much in love with Mayberry

horsin around on the web and low and behold, an Andy Griffith Fan Club!!!
I would rather watch re-runs of TAGS than about anything else. My kids,
therefore, are indoctrinated with lines like, "Do it, just do it!! for the
love of Mike do it!!!" and "I knew Charlotte Tucker, she married that man who
fell down a lot." and "Just what can you do with a grown woman?" I could go
on and on. They don't do television like that anymore. I would move to
Mayberry in a second if possible, instead we try to live our lives with the
kind of decency and compassion-for-others found in every episode. I would
love to belong to your club

Lots of luck to you and yours!!

Yes, those passages that Allan types up for us every once in a while are
like little breaths of fresh spring air blowing in your face after having
cabin fever since late November! If you enjoy reading these script
excerpts, you should really head over to Weaver's and get you some Mayberry
cookbooks! Now I know some of you menfolk are hemming and hawing over that
suggestion, but if you never touch a wooden spoon or crack a single egg, you
won't regret buying these cookbooks. They're loaded with script excerpts,
TAGS trivia, pictures from the show, and other fine little essays written by
cast members.
I've got "Aunt Bee's Mayberry Cookbook" and "Aunt Bee's Mealtime in
Mayberry" and "Aunt Bee's Delightful Desserts." Yes, you can actually use
the recipes and cook you up some fine vittles. But if you've just got a
hankerin' for a good stiff dose of Mayberry fun and friends, reach for a
cookbook! That's a time!

P.S. Actual scripts from the show are also super cool to own, but they're a
little harder to come by.

AUNT BEE: I was admiring your hearty appetites.
BRISCOE: I bet it does your heart good to see a real eater at work, huh?
ANDY: You all cooking for yourselves now that Charlene's married, are you?
BRISCOE: Oh, the boys there. They been takin' turns. They're just about
the worst cooks they is. Just the other night they cooked up about
the worst mess of grub I ever did see--hoot owl pie! Perfectly
good hoot owl, just plumb wasted.

(P. 135, Aunt Bee's Mayberry Cookbook)
