In the TAGS episode, Opie's Group, it's funny when Goober misnames 'The
Beatles' as 'beagles.' Opie promptly corrects him. Clara Edwards' brother
Claude played in Hippie Harrison's band. When this episode was being filmed,
the Beatles were gearing up to film the 'Magical Mystery Tour.' Four days
after 'Opie's Group' originally aired the fab four filmed three promotional
shorts for the song 'Hello, Goodbye' at the Saville Theater in London.

Hellooo Dolll,

I haven't seen the Travis Tritt video mentioned, but I wouldn't be
surprised if it were Clint Howard in it. You see, Travis is big TAGS
fan, much to the point that he once had a beagle he named Otis. And
speaking of Otis, Hal Smith appeared in character in Alan Jackson's video
"Don't Rock the Jukebox". I just wonder how many other country artists
have done songs or videos with Mayberry connotations in them. The other
one that comes to mind immediately is the Bellamy Bros. song "I Wish Life
Were Like The Andy Griffith Show."

Does anybody know of any others?

I believe Howard's first appearance was as Andy's insurance agent when
Aunt Bee "lost" her Aunt Martha's pin; however, his name was not Howard
Sprague. It was Ed Jenkins, Episode 178, entitled "Lost and Found." The
next episode he was in was 185, "The County Clerk" where he portrayed
Howard Sprague for the first time.

Subject: Missing Hollywood Actor Mystery Solved!
From: David L Mowbray <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hey everybody:
As the father of three, yes three, young daughters, I have been in a
"unique" position to ponder and solve the mystery of the missing
Hollywood actors like Andy Jr. and Richie Cunningham's brother. Keep in
mind that I have to spend a LOT of time watching THEIR TV shows...

The theory is this: Barney, that lovable dinosaur, (not the REAL
Barney), is actually a CARNIVORE!!! I first suspected this when I
noticed the older kids disappearing off his show, probably the Hansel and
Gretel syndrome. Now I have strong suspicions that the dinosaur has
drifted over to other TV studios and continued this heinous activity.

Well, it's a theory...
Dave Mowbray, the Tennessee Gomer
From the halls of Monta-zoomer....
PS: Is it too "negative" to call Barney a carnivore??? (Don't want to be
a rule breaker.)

Spurgeon said, "Forbearance should be cultivated till your heart yields a fine
crop of it. Pray for a short memory as to all unkindness."
Be kind to someone today. I was just thinking about all the times Andy
covered for Barneys blunders, just to avoid him being embarrassed or looking
rediculous. The time when Gomer replaced Barney for the solo in the Mayberry
choir and Gomer walked in on Barney secretly trying to sing the part. Gomer
peeps through the cracked door and realizes that he replaced Barney. Remember
the sadiness in Gomers' face. He actually felt sorrow and hurt for Barney.
What a tender moment. You know the rest of the story.....

I heard this story today, and it sounded so much like Barney's
experience. WBT radio in Charlotte is celebrating its 80th anniversary.
One of their early pioneers was the beloved Grady Cole. Years ago, a
long Government limo was speeding through the Charlotte area with
license plate FDR-1. When the police officer stopped it, the chauffeur
was furious, saying "Do you have any idea who's asleep in the back of
this car??!!" The officer said, "I don't care if you've got Grady Cole
in there - you're still getting a ticket!"

In addition to those named by others here, other movie stars mentioned
were Ralph Bellamy (A Date for Gomer), Adolphe Menjou (Andy the
Matchmaker), John Wayne, Elvis, and Fabian (Off To Hollywood), and Gloria
Swanson (Wyatt Earp Rides Again), among others. John Wayne was also
mentioned in Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.
