No you didn't misspell it. George Raft was considered by many critics to be
a "poor man's Humphrey Bogart," and legend has it Bogie's most famous roles
were turned down by Raft first.

I seem to remember, when the Taylors returned from Hollywood, Goober read the
names from Opie's autograph book. Anyone remember those? I think one was
Debbie Reynolds. Also a couple of names came up before they left, seemed
like when Andy was making his list of things people wanted him to do, one of
those was something like "Say hey to Randolph Scott from Goober."

Hi all,

Just wanted to give you a heads up on a show that will air Friday, April 19th
(sorry I don't have a time yet) in which TV Land visits the homes of classic
TV stars. The premiere will feature a rare visit to the Hawaiian estate of
Jim Nabors, our own Gomer Pyle, and Jim will be featured in the special.
From what I saw in the promo, it sure ain't the back of Wally's fillin'
station!

In the book "Inside Mayberry" by Dan Harrison and Bill Habeeb they mention
that when the Taylor's went to Hollywood Opie brought back the autographs of
Audie Murphy, Tony Curtis, Doris Day, Rock Hudson, Kirk Douglas, Dean Martin
and Dave Schneider (a necktie salesman - his sunglasses fooled Opie). I
didn't see this on the episode myself so I can't verify this. Does anybody
remember this from the episodes with the Hollywood Vacation??

You know, I've been walking into candy shops and fudge shops for many years.
And cashews are my favorite nut. But, you know, I don't think I've ever
seen cashew fudge in the counter.

So I figured I'll check out the web for cashew fudge. What's the first
thing I run into? Thelma Lou's Cashew Fudge!!! Here's the recipe:

Hello all!

I'm planning to do an internet-radio program called "Remembering Hal Smith." I
want to gather a group of people who knew him and worked with him to record
some things they remember about him (they can record with a computer
microphone or call a toll-free number)...

The web address for the project is http://halsmithproject.cjb.net ... if any
of you know any TAGS actor's email addresses, could you do me a HUGE favor and
pass this link along to them?

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Jared Walczak

Hi neighbors:

Just gotta' make an observation on international
relations and conflict resolution. Mr. Vasilyovich &
Mr. Clifford in Andy's kitchen at 3 a.m. Gavin McLeod
(the 'Love Boat' captain) as interpreter.

Aunt Bee serves cold fried chicken, meatloaf, bread
pudding & hot coffee! ---'conflict resolved'---.

A big bag of sandwiches 'for the road' to boot.

I continue to notice a certain "multi-colored" shirt Opie wears ALOT.
Wonder if it showed particularly well on
color film or?

When I read the topics of movie stars mentioned,
I remember one episode where Ange and Op' were coming
out of the Mayberry Bijou and Op' asked his Paw about
how Cary Grant is trained to "talk Northern" in his movies,
and he talks normal like Ange in others. As they are passing
by the movie posters, it says "GARY GRANT", instead of
Cary Grant. Anyone else notice this? Also, why would they
have to change the name? Cary Grant wasn't selfish with his name
was he? If so, I say he's part giraffe, you know the rest.....

Was just out in the barn doing my afternoon chores and Alan Jackson was
singing on the radio. In the opening lines of "Where I come from" (the
cornbread and chicken song is what my kidz call it!)he sings about a
truckdriver getting pulled over for speeding by a "Barney". I "spose
Barney told him to "nip" his speeding...

Hey all,

I was watching King of Queens this past Monday when
our beloved Mayberry was mentioned. Doug was sitting
on the front porch, when his wife Carrie callled to
him. He told her where he was, she came out and asked
him what he was doing, he replied: "I'm just enjoyin
the evenin'.... she said: "what is this Mayberry?" I
loved it, did anyone else see this??? Needless to say
they weren't able to stay out on their porch very long
as Queens, NY is a far cry from the safety and
serenity of any front porch in Mayberry.

Has anyone mentioned Ceasar Romero, he was one of the
Hollywood actors mentioned on TAGS. This was in one
of the episodes about the Taylor's visit to Hollywood.

........she called me a creechtur.......

Hey Everybody,

In the same episode Barney is having a conversation about Gabby Hayes,
Andy teases Aunt Bee about Rock Hudson.

Rock Hudson kind of does it for you don't he?

Mayberry Days Update

I got word from Surry Arts Council today that the 7pm Doug Dillard concert has
sold out. Tickets are still available for the Doug Dillard matinee concert, so
you still have a chance to see a great bluegrass show. If Elvis is more you
style, I can also recommend Michael Hoover's "Memories of Elvis" 7:30 pm show
at the Cinema Theatre. Michael is a huge TAGS fan and a wonderful performer.

When Doug's evening concert sells out, that means Saturday night's "Colonel
Tim's Talent Time" isn't far behind. The Surry Arts Council website has all
the Mayberry Days information, including ticket sales at www.surryarts.org.

Mayberry Days is a great opportunity to put a smiling face to a name & email
address you see on the Digest. And don't forget about the WBMUTBB Silent
Auction, our chapter's community service project. Last year's auction raised
over $2300 to support many of SAC's many programs. We may never top that
amount, but as long as we can showcase the talents of our chapter and have
good fellowship doing it, we'll keep having the auction and I hope you will
consider joining us this year.
