Its hard to pick out a favorite one-liner from TAGS. Every character in
the show tosses off a good'n' every now and then. Hows about this (forgive
me if I don't get it exactly right) - "Oh yeah, it sounds like a harp from
heaven!"

"We thought about killin' him....kind of hated to go that far."

Also, there is a scene where Barney has written a song for himself and Andy
walks in while Barney is singing it. It's a scene that we don't see much
anymore since they TAGS shows are edited to accomodate more commercials. I
would love to know the episode where this appeared. The words to the song go
as follows (to the tune of Oh My Darling, Clementine):

In a jailhouse down in Dixie
Fightin' crime and riskin' life.
With the sheriff and buddy
Pistol packin' Barney Fife.

Oh my darin', oh my darin',
Oh my darin' Barney Fife
He's a deadly crime stopper
What a copper Barney Fife.

One day there come a ridin'
Two bad men to rob a bank
But Fife was tricky
A deadeye dickey
Now they're locked up in the tank.

(Andy enters and sings)

Oh my Barney, Oh my Barney
Had a jail and couldn't lock it.
Had one bullet for his pistol
Had to keep it in his pocket.

What a great scene!

Thanks! I hope to see some of you in Pigeon Forge on June 28

Hey ya'll! I haven't posted in a long spell but as always, I've been
reading the digest. Been real busy with feeding them children, taking
care of my in-laws and of course, singing nights at the Congo Room!

My favorite one-liners ...well I got a couple. The first one being
"Homely in the cradle, pretty at the table" and the second one being
"Yeah but don't the trees seem nice and full?" (that one always makes me
cry!)

We just got digital cable the other day (500 channels and nothing on to
watch) and as I was flipping I ran across a movie call "Rustlers
Rhapsody" and lo and behold there was our own Andy! The movie was not
that great but was definitely improved by his performance! :-)

Good Sabbath to you and yers!

Barney to inmates, in 'Obey All Rules' episode:

the writing is hard to clean off".

Just a few more real actors mentioned on the show: When the Taylors are
discussing their upcoming trip to Hollywood, Opie says they might meet some
"real movie stars, like John Wayne and Elvis Presley and Fabian!" Of
course, calling Fabian a "movie star" is a bit of a stretch, but to a kid in
the mid-60's, I guess he would be.

Also, I think Goober's actual quote is "Well, I'll eat a MINT (not cookie)to
that!" He was talking to Andy about Opie getting the job at the market.

And my favorite one liner (courtesy of Gomer): "She's got eight cylinders,
she'll take eight!" (Telling Malcolm Tucker his car might need new spark
plugs in "Man In A Hurry.")

Howdy ya'll.
Whilst enjoying a gooooooood brunch today, we were watchin, well, ya'll know.
Enneyways it was the eppiesode where Aunt Bee has her solo flight. Now I
ain't no pilot, nor do I claim to be a "trained noticer," ya'll understand;
but there was a scene in there that just bugged me; so's I rewinded it (don't
ya just LOVE electronal marvels?) and noticed when Aunt Bea was taxing
everything looked normal, then it switched to a shot of "Aunt Bea going down
the runway for takeoff" then a quick two-second exterior shot of what was
supposed to be the plane taking off.......but, ahHAAA...the plane was actually
landing and the flaps were fully down. Now as I said, I ain't no pilot but I
do BELIEVE that the flaps are used to slow the aircraft for landing; when
deployed to the lower position, as they were in this shot...any pilots out
there? whadda ya'll thaink?
"somethin' from the light classics..."

Anita,
That apology was real purty...I hope that most of the folks in Mayberry would
agree that your previous comment was not offensive since we know that almost
any Big City would not be comparable in safety and front-porch-sitting as Our
Hometown. And that is just how I took it. I believe that was understood by
your fellow Mayberrians, so don't take it to heart, and keep posting - I

your comments!

One of my favourite one-liners is from the show about the 3 female cons who
break out of prison and take Barney (a.k.a. Al in this episode!) and Floyd
prisoner. It's when Big Maude says to Barney: "If Sallie wants to dance, you
dance!"
Now I wonder why I like that!!

Hello,
Just wanted to let you know that you can find a price guide for your TAGS
cards in a magazine called Combo. You can find it at any Comic Book or Sports
Cards Shop. You may find one at Books-a-Million also. I guess they have
those in your area, I don't know. When you get it just look under non-sports
cards and you will find Andy Griffith. I haven't looked recently at a guide,
but at last look the set you have is worth about $25. Of course, if it was
unopened it would be double that. But....what kind of fun is that--buying and
not opening. But the rules of card collecting have always been that they are
more valuable unopened!! I have a set myself and love to look at them. They
have 3 series of those card sets. Just wanted to let you know that you do
have the one that's worth the most, because it was the 1st series. Anyway, I
hope I was of help to you.

Boy is it ever hard to just choose ONE!! I have so many favorite one liners.
But I tried to choose one that I love that you don't hear too often. Do you
remember the episode when Andy said to Barney--"Don't you 'member I told you
about it and you cried."
In that same episode Barney says about a classmate, "Yeah, I remember him, he
was always sweatin'." That was the Class Reunion episode. I know--I know I
was only suppose to give one, but I just couldn't resist!!

Hey all,

Just watched the episode where Andy and Ellie stage the fake robbery to
restore Barney's confidence. Every time I see this episode one scene always
strikes me as strange. After Barney arrests the guy from Chattanooga down
at the freight yard, Andy calls the sheriff in Chattanooga to get a
background check on the suspect. The strange part for me is that when Andy
gets the other sheriff on the line, he introduces himself as "Sheriff
Taylor, from over here in Mayberry", or something close to that, as if
Mayberry were the neighboring county or something. Or at least in the same
state. Looks like he would have said "from Mayberry over in North Carolina"
or something like that. The only thing I can think of is that maybe he
already knew the sheriff in Chattanooga, but if so, he didn't mention it.
Anybody else ever thought this scene was a little strange?
Also, just wanted to take a moment and welcome Debbie from Franklin, NC to
the digest. Couldn't believe it when I was reading the list of new members
and saw someone else from Franklin. Nice. Real nice.

Brian,
This was a great idea. I love when people make mention
of the show in everyday life and maybe this will
increase everyone's "list of Mayberry's one liners"
and try to use them in everyday life.
As I am sure a number of TAGS fans will say, there are
numerous one liners that will always draw a smile and
a thought of Barney, Gomer, Floyd, etc. saying the
line, but one of my favorites (and I try to use it in
my line of work) is Barney saying, "Mayberry says
thanks and happy motoring"
Ryan
