Now I'm not an offee-shul trained noticer, but I thought Rafe said, "Hey that
was me!".

I could be wrong on that, but the thought of foul language in Mayberry is
enough to get that vein poppin' out of Barney's neck.

And take that gun outta your mouth!

Hello I first noticed the "dirt roads" in the color eps. in which
Aunt Bee learns to drive. When she & Goober start her lessons , Aunt
Bee is kicking up the dust all over town. Never noticed the "dirt
roads " in the B&W eps as much.
Also someone mentioned Peggy who was played by Joanna Moore.I
remember years ago when she was married to Ryan O'neal they did
an article about them in TV guide . Ryan was in the Peyton
Place series at the time. Sadly, Joanna died a few years back of
lung cancer. I believe she was 63. I saw her in one of the color
eps. of My Three Sons but never saw her in anything after that..
    Have a Mayberry day !!!

It appears that Joanna Moore is the favorite of Andy's girlfriends, but let
me ask you this...

What if Barbara Eden had stayed in Mayberry and had learned to talk a little
slower? Ol' Ange would have been right there! After all, you can tell just
by looking at her that she's definitely not a boy!

Robbie, thanks for the note on the odd building at the end of Andy's street.
It would fit in GWTW.

And as to being able to see sound stages back of Andy's house, I, too, have
seen a couple of shots where you see buildings back there. I thought they
were sound stages, but I had no confirmation. So thanks.

Subject: HELP! HOW DO I GET THE COLUMBIA HOUSE TAPES?
Date: Thu, 2 May 2002 09:38:39 -0400

Howdy folks - A LITTLE HELP PLEASE. I was a member at one time (long ago) of
Columbia House, but no longer. When a member I purchased the first 4 VHS
tapes. I read in here about 17 tapes and I want to know how do I get them? I
have tried calling different numbers I have been given, or seen posted on the
digest, but it's either automated or I never reach a 'real' person. What
advice can anyone give for getting these tapes from Columbia House. All my
efforts thus far have failed. I really want Goober's Goofs, so if anyone has
one to sell please let me know! Thanks much ya'll!!

"Cut scenes." Yup, THAT's why I love my 18 Columbia House
tapes! Those tapes not only SOUND and LOOK good, there's
NO cut scenes. I timed some of them against "home-taped"
and "store-boughts." The Columbia House tapes, 4 episodes
to a tape run upto 4-minutes longer than what they broad-
cast on TV! The BLACK & WHITE episodes are cut the most--
as the older shows are one-minute-longer than the newer--
but SHORTER color episodes.
Some of the Columbia House tapes-- two I think-- have a
few Post Cereal Boxes flipping through the bottom right-
hand-side of the closing credits. I don't remember seeing
THAT since ORIGINAL broadcastings in the mid-'60s! Colum-
bia House does a GREAT job getting TV-NOSTALGIA down to a
science. I've got every single one of the "Twilight Zones"
they offer on 43 VHS tapes-- also available on 43 DVDs.
Like the "TZ" tapes, they own the rights for "Home-Video Col-
lectors' Editions" of MANY TV shows... when they have about
HALF of the episodes on TAPE, they start the DVD editions. As
I write this, there were, originally 10 TAGS tapes planned.
Worked out well, so they did another 10. One tape is on hold--
copyright problems; and another has a liner note problem...
Some people have 19 of the 20 tapes-- I have 18.
Anyone got twenty? Allen?
Buy them tapes! They'll fit on 62 tapes... you'll NEVER see
them on "complete seasonal multi-discs" like "Star Trek:NG"
or "I Love Lucy"... unless you know a lot of people like ME...
How many people do YOU know that have ==> A-L-L <== the epi-
sodes of TWILIGHT ZONE... besides me? How many people do you
KNOW-- besides ME-- that'd BUY all 63 ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW tapes--
IF they were available? Every LIBRARY in America should own such
a video library! Maybe YOUR local chapter of TAGRWC should buy a
COMPLETE SET... They won't make a complete set available because
I, me, myself, alone WANTS one... "WE" have to buy them thar tapes!
I didn't wait 18-months to get my set of 18-- so far-- tapes, ei-
ther. I told them to send them as they come out. I got the first
ten at once, and the last 8 were spread out of a few months.
Make America Beautiful! Collect those scenes that were cut and
litter TV stations across America. One day-- and TOO SOON-- you'll
wish you had BOUGHT those TAGS tapes WHEN they where available...
There! I SAID it-- and I ain't takin' it back, so there!

but aren't the video shelves full!"

Subject: RAFE CURSING

I thought I would ask everyone, didn't we have a long lengthy discussion on
the "Rafe Cursing" idea? And if memory serves me, did we not come to the
definite conclusion that Rafe did NOT curse! I believe this has been hashed
out before. I can't figure out why people keep trying to make something nasty
appear in something good and wholesome! Keep that up and Mayberry will be a
regular "sin town"! All jokes aside I believe the other Digest members can
support my memory and agree that Rafe did NOT curse!

I've got the perfect solution to the missing scenes/editing question. Just
edit out the useless commercials and show TAGS in its entirety. Complete and
uncut. Then no one could be disappointed because they missed their favorite
scene.

Subject: Cow thief episode

Isn't it great when you see an episode that you've never seen before -
it makes me HAPPY!! I've been waiting and waiting to catch the Cow
Thief Episode...I live on a dairy farm in Minnesota and wanted to see
what they would do with a storyline about cows(maybe I'd even catch a
glitch or so) Anyway, I FINALLY got to see it the other night and I
LOVED it. Can't wait to sit down with the kidz and watch it with them.
Hearin' about all that "interlopin" and "the Big Freeze". Then to see
that cow wearing boots - what a hoot! What a high stepper she was! And
the ending was great when the "bad guy" got it good from the bull.
Little did Barney know he really WAS learning how to make a
"moo-lage"...
And I did notice Barney pulling up on the wrong side of the street, but
figured it had something to do with the camera shot or angle.

Also, trained noticers were wondering about the driver always getting
out on the passenger side of the car when parking in the street...I
remember from driver's ed years ago they taught us that was the safe way
to exit the car - to get out on the sidewalk side, not the street side.
In fact, it was a part of the driver's exam. The examiner would watch
you to see if you exited the car on the passenger side, otherwise you
lost points.

Mayberry sez thanks and happy motorin'!

Has there ever been a better performance by a character other than Andy or
Barney than the one Howard McNear had in the episode where he meets Mrs.
Grayson and has to use Andy and Aunt Bee to support his ruse? "Wretch,
miserable deceitful wretch" is the most memorable line of the bunch, but
there is also Andy trying to convince Mrs. Grayson that he and Opie are
Floyd's sons. "Not Paw," Andy said when Opie came running in, "Paul. Andrew
Paul Lawson." It was a classic. Never has Howard McNear been better, except
possibly when he and Barney were captured by the three female convicts,
where he kpet calling Barney "Al." He was a great actor. Dare anybody
disagree?

Best of luck to you and yours.

I was watching the reunion episode last night and Andy and Barn were looking
at
their H.S. yearbook. Barney's picture listed him as Barney Milton Fiffe. I
seem to
remember a book of Barney's which Andy was looking at one time and in the front
inside cover Barney had written his name. Barnard P. Fiffe if lost or stolen
return
to Barnard P. Fiffe. Anyone else recall these 2 references to Barney's middle
name? I think I'm right on this, give me some help.

TAGS fans,

I work for a software company as a documenter (I write the manuals for
our software). One term that comes up often is User ID. However, in the
computer language we use, it's written lower-case, so it looks like "user
id". Whenever I see that, I think of, "We're going to take a look at that
id, that ego and while we're in there we'll take a look at that super-ego!"
When you realize that our software was possibly written by Barney Fife, it
doesn't make it any easier to use, but it does explain a lot about why it
works the way it does--or doesn't.

My wife subscribes to a magazine called "Country Discoveries", and the
May/June issue features an article on Mt. Airy, NC. Very good article -
mentions Mayberry Days, and has pictures of The Snappy Lunch, Floyd's City
Barbershop (interior), and the squad car replica outside the courthouse.
Unfortunately, I don't believe this magazine is available on news stands, and
the article is not featured on their website. If you're interested in getting
a copy, your best bet might be to request one through the web site
