The easiest way is to visit www.columbiahouse.com. You'll find a button for
their classic TV shows collection. It's hard to reach them by phone; you'll
get a busy signal every time. Why ANY company would have twice as many
phone lines as they have people to answer the phones is something I'll never
understand!

She appears in just two episodes, both in the first season: "Ellie for

MacMichael, who also had roles on "Mr. Ed" and "My Three Sons."

Thelma Lou first appears in episode 22, "Cyrano Andy."

Hello and Greetings to all my fellow Mayberrians!!! I sure have been
enjoying the digest lately. It is the bright spot of my day. My grandson
wants to know why I am laughing out loud while I am at my computer!!! Barney
and Andy work for me everytime!! I am one of those people that faithfully
recorded as many shows as I could. Some of my tapes are 15 years old and
wearing out. I need the number for Columbia house myself to begin collecting
the tapes. At one time someone had written in on an efficient way to get to
Columbia House and cut some of the red tape involved. I noticed several
other would like the information too. Also Paul, keep up the good work!!
Gotta go, my grandson is ready to go out and play and you know how "daylight
is precious to a young-un"!!!!!
Have a Mayberry day!!!!!!!!!!

Chris
Lots of luck to you and yours!!!!

Hello I am new to this forum & I am glad that it is a positive
place. I have to say though, that TVLand editing is not good. I
know, I know .. I am glad to have access to it but sometimes the
shows just do not make a lick of sense . TAGS we can figure out &
through the yrs.can buy Tapes etc. Yesterday I was watching
Gunsmoke and the opening scene was a bunch of Bandits running amok.
OK, then they hear a noise and the next thing I know there is our
   own Miss Helen
Crump in a a Nuns habit with a group of Nuns with the bad guys .Thats
fine but they had edited out how Helen got with the Nuns.
I have no idea how it all went or ended as they edited most of it
Gunsmoke suffers more than TAGS from bad editing..
Well, thats the last of how it is for me on editing.Just wish they
could do a better job. Shame , Shame Shame.
I do know that TVland is shuffling their schedule but TAGS is
still playing in my area probably at 3am or somesuch.
      Certainly enjoy this forum

I know of one scene where Andy was wearing a
tie, but Barney wasn't. Anyone know the scene?
    Are there others.

I seem to recall Barney sans necktie and Andy wearing
one, in Malcome Merriwether. Malcome is seating Andy
in the rear seat of the patrol car, for his ride to
the Court House. Malcome also puts Andy cap on his
head.

On newstands right now is TV Guide's Star Trek 35th anniversay special
edition. Two episodes that they rated the best to feature the character of
Captain Kirk were "Miri" and "The City on the Edge of Forever." These
episodes were the ones that showed the Mayberry streets of Forty Acres. These
first season Star Trek episodes were produced when TAGS was in its seventh
season. Goober had that psychosomatic "crick" in his back the week "Miri"
aired; Opie wrote about his most unforgetable character the same week "The
City on the Edge of Forever" aired. Barney's own cousin Virgil appears on
"Miri." It just goes to show you that Mayberry is NOT so much a location, but
a state of mind.

Kirk out.

Just wanted to see if anyone has received tape #18, Lucky Letter, from
Columbia House. This is the only tape I need to complete the 20 that are
currently available.
I have called Columbia House and they say that they have tried to ship this
tape to me 4 times and that it has been returned each time. I find this hard
to believe, since I received the other 19 (2 coming after #18 was supposedly
sent) with no problem.

Thanks,

Just got my 2nd TAGS tape today from Columbia House and was watching the

never noticed
before in any other episodes. Below the bulletin board was a steam radiator,
to the right of that was a spittoon also.

Are there other episodes where this steam radiator is visible?

I thought there was a nice* write-up in TV Guide in listing TAGS as the #9th
best series in TV history. Here it is for those who don't get TV Guide:

CBS, October 3, 1960 - April 1, 1968 Mayberry, we aren't the first to
point out, was less a town than a state of mind, a black and while backwater
(disregard the later, vastly inferior color episodes) of civility and
gentle, timeless comedy. Comedy, by the way, that was always a lot smarter
than it seemed. Griffith, TV's answer to Jimmy Stewart, was sly-humored
sheriff Andy Taylor, living contentedly with doting Aunt Bee (Frances
Bavier) and adoring son Opie (Ronny Howard, quite possibly TV's best sitcome
kid ever.) And of course, there was Don Knotts, whose indelible performance
as inept deuput Barney Fife would become a measuring stick for TV character
acting. For the five seasons Knotts was in town, "Griffith" was every bit
as sophisticated as anything on TV: finely detailed sotrytelling expertly
played. You'd have to be a real Gomer not to appreciate that.

* TV Guide broke our Digest rules in this write-up, but then, they're not
members, are they? (Man they would have gotten kicked out of cyber-Mayberry
so fast they would have thought they'd gotten struck up the side of the head
by a chicken or a leg of lamb!)

One thing I always thought was curious was that in
earlier TAGS they never mentioned that they situated
in North Carolina, and that Raleigh was the capital
(which would have given the state away). They often
used the words "The Capitol" but Raleigh and the
capital (of whatever state they were in) were never
used in the same breath. Raleigh was, however, "the
big city", with 8 dollar hotel rooms and three-chair
barber shops. Only in the color episodes was it
acknowledged that they were indeed in North Carolina.
Possibly, Andy Griffith desired to de-emphasize their
specific locale and just wanted to show the charm of
small town America in the South in general.
