I can't imagine what kind of standards TV Guide must have if they rank TAGS
as the 9th best tv show of all time. Maybe they look for such
"ground-breaking" elements as cursing, constant sex talk, and nudity.

When Malcom Meriwether prepared dinner in Aunt Bee's absence, seems like Andy
& Opie dressed up, and Barney dropped by in casual clothes.

Dear fellow Mayberrians,
I've been siting in silence on this one waiting to see if anyone could say
this
better than I was thinking it, and sure enough, someone has. Debbie, this is
exactly how some of my East Tennessee relatives say, "Well" preceding an
exclamatory remark of some sort.

I vote for you to win the "Figuring Out What Rafe Said" Award. I know it's a
compelshun with me, but I like to figure things out, or honor those who have.

Maybe Barney could escort you around town since he missed out on that
Apricot Queen all those years ago.
My best to you and yours!

Did anyone else notice the TVLand promotion of the "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs," episode
Saturday night? I love have the shows on TVLand, but sometimes, I wonder what
they are thinking? The announcer, between episodes, promoted the upcoming
"Dogs, Dogs, Dogs" episode by playing up Barney's monologue about "Giraffes"
being "selfish!" The announcer even says something like, "It is truly one of
the great moments in the series!" Then they edited it out!! Go figure!
Don't you just hate it when that happens!!

I always kinda figured that Barneys real name was
Bernard MIlton Oliver P. Fife. After all he wouldn't be the
first person to have more than one middle name.

He probably just used which ever one took his fancy when
writing it down or having it on awards and yearbooks.

At least it explains them annoying inconsistencies.

Me and Mr. Goob just returned from our trip to Merlefest in Wilkesboro NC.
Being less than 100 miles from "Mayberry", we couldn't pass up the
opportunity to swing by there before heading west.

I've been there during Mayberry Days on 3 occasions but never when things
were quiet. What a nice town. We went to the visitor's center and looked at
Emmett's AG museum - it was BIG is all I can say. I kept saying "Oh, I have
one of those" (I was bragging to the other visitors who were obviously green
with envy) We wanted to eat at the Snappy lunch but, being after 2:00, it was
closed so we went out on the highway and had soup AND salad but we didn't
fill up.

At Wally's, I ordered a Wally's shirt with Goober's picture on the back and
we drank a big orange. We messed around town for a while longer - took
some photos. I didn't want to leave so Mr. Goob had to hold ether to my nose
on an old shop rag to load me in the car.

Date: Sun, 5 May 2002 09:43:40 -0500

Hi Guys...

TVLand is still showing TAGS. According to my listings, they have cut it
down to ONCE in the evening instead of four. Of course the first hour was a
repeat of the night before. Our ten o'clock showing has been cut to one
episode with the final half hour the "beaver". The addition of Batman is
different, but somehow the commissioner of Gotham City is not quite our
ANDY. Maybe if he got a candle stick phone instead of that read Bat-phone
it could be better, LOL

Anyhow, i'm still grateful to TVLand for keeping TAGS on at night, and we
all know with the schedule juggling that often occurs, more will be back,
and the marathons are always a great treat. Often ones first inclination is
to bombard a TV networks mailbox with complaints, so if you do email them
about your feelings regarding TAGS, act like somebody and keep it positive.
Hey, its sunday, so thats my sermon for today!

Hoping to see a lot of you at New Castle Indiana this summer for Mayberry in
the Midwest.

Mike Peacock,
Connersville IN.

ATTENTION MAYBERRY FANS:

I am parting with my Mayberry project that I had undertaken a few years
back....when I was younger and had no kids. I am offering for sale my 1963
Ford Galaxie. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to put into this project.
I hate to see this beauty just sit in my garage. Here are the
particulars....

63 Ford Galaxie 500 ( I have had the appropriate trim removed so that it will
be as close to the Mayberry squad car as possible.)

Completely rebuilt engine and transmission and is roadworthy.

Registered in the state of Michigan with an authentic 1963 license plate.

Comes with the original title (47,000 original miles)

Authentic 1963 tires.

Has been primed and is ready to paint black and white (raven black and
Corinthian white)

Red light and siren already hooked up and operational. I have a non-working
police radio for aesthetic value and also a whip antennae and spotlight for it
also.

The interior needs to be refurbished.

To put it simply, this car simply needs to be painted and have the interior
done and it will be ready to go. Please drop me an e-mail if you're
interested....

Recently I spotted Olive, the widowed waitress from the diner, serving as
the dentist's nurse on Leave it to Beaver. Then that high-class waiter
at the French restaurant in Raleigh where Barn ordered snails and brains
was a waiter once again in Gomer's military town. Such fun!

"Nip it, nip it in the bud!" I told my wife as I
pruned bushes in my yard. I started laughing and she
just looked at me.

episode where he thinks he's a decendant of Nathan Tibbs.

In competition shooting what does it mean to "Barney up?'"

Bob asked:

Anyone know the scene?

...then Larry answered:

>>>Wasn't the scene where Barney is getting weighed and measured for height
to
see if he was meeting the requirements on size to be a lawman?
>>>

That's a great question! I've been thinking on it a couple of days. The
only other scene
that comes to mind is the one in which Malcolm Merriweather insists that
Andy and Opie must dress up for dinner. Barney drops by in his casual
clothes.

It's there during the whole first season. After that, it disappeared, and a
gas heater appeared in the corner by the front double doors.

I guess they never could make up their minds as to what type of heater they
wanted. When Newton Monroe was in town, they apparently were using a
coal-burning furnace in the basement, judging by the huge clouds of black
smoke that billowed out after he forgot to open the flue.

I've had the same problem. They've billed me for this tape three different
times, and every time, they gave me a refund a couple of weeks later, but I
never did get the tape.

I did get the BOX for this tape once, however, it had a different tape
inside! The tape was labeled "Thelma Lou" but the episodes on it featured
Opie, not Thelma Lou. Curious, curious, curious.

I may not be remembering this correctly, but it seems to me that North
Carolina was clearly indicated in the episode where Barney tags the governor's
car. We are shown the license plate which reads something like: North
Carolina 010.
Otherwise, you are right about how they seldom gave any clear indication of
the state Mayberry was located in. I recall that on occasion in some of the
early shows there was a reference to Mayberry, U.S.A.
"Barney, you're gassed!"
Best of luck to you and yours,

Did anyone else spot Clint Howard (our very own Leon) on the show
"Enterprise" a couple of weeks ago? He played a Feringi (sorry if I
misspelled that for you Trekkies out there) and was quite easy to spot
even with all that makeup on. Of course, it would have been easier to
spot him if they had just given him a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to
hold as he held that phaser to Captain Archer...
