Hey Mayberry people!

I wanted to add this triplet and hope it hasn't already been mentioned.

"Leonard Blush, Leonard Blush, Leonard Blush!" Is that all you can think
about at a time like this??

I thought of this one without using my bucket.

Lotsa luck to you and yours,

Jen

Subject: TAGS and "Batman" -- separated at birth??

While I'm sorry to see TV Land demote TAGS to one daily showing, "Batman" is
my second-favorite classic show and I'm happy to have it back on the air.
Besides, TV Land will no doubt restore TAGS to more showings before long.

But while we're waiting, watching "Batman" isn't that far removed from
watching "The Andy Griiffith Show":

Both "Batman" and TAGS feature a handsome, likeable, uniformed lawman with a
wiry, exuberant sidekick.

Both Batman and Andy fight crime without carrying a gun.

Both Batman and Andy drive two of the 1960's most recognizable TV cars.

Both "Batman" and TAGS feature two of the most memorable themes of all time.

Gotham City and Mayberry are probably TV's two most famous fictional cities
(along with Bedrock).

Bruce Wayne is an admirable father figure to ward Dick Grayson and Andy
Taylor is the best of "paws" to Opie.

Bruce & Dick and Andy & Opie Taylor each have a loving aunt residing with
them (Aunts Harriet & Bee, respectively).

Both Batman and Andy are pestered by a host of colorful oddballs (Ernest T.
Bass would give Batman & Robin a run for their money if he ever left
Mayberry for Gotham, don'tcha think?).

And "Batman"'s Commissioner Gordon, actor Pat Hingle, actually visited
Mayberry in the "Wyatt Earp" episode.

Holy similarities, Batman! Makes ya "thank," don't it?

Subject: Andy's Tie
Date: Mon, 6 May 2002 22:45:14 -0600

I noticed the discussion about the times when Andy's dressed quite nicely in
a tie and I must comment on the same tie that keeps showing' up. When Mr.
Malcolm had Andy and Opie turned out so nicely for dinner, oh that was a
sight, wasn't it? And young Master Opie in his bow tie?

Andy always seemed to have a favourite tie. It's usually striped, wasn't
it?. Back across the waters that's what we'd call a "school tie," where the
colors would usually indicate where one had spent a few years. Two problems,
though: first, Andy's tie is striped in the North American manner (in the
other direction), so it's probably not a school tie. Secondly, since the
shows were mostly black and white, you can't really tell the color. In the
later, color episodes, Andy's tie looked to be the same colors as the B&W
episodes: black and blue or gray. These are my personal favorites to wear.
In my color world, I would be expected to wear scarlet and royal blue, Kelly
Green and white, or cyclamen red over a neutral tone, but I might get some
sort of alumnae response wearing anything else! I prefer the darker colors,
like Andy. Gray and silver stripes. Or blue and black. I suppose I'm rather
boring.... Maybe a little more blue, striped over in the American style. And
then folks are generally complimentary. Generally: It's just my wife,
mother, or my father-in-law saying "You wear that thing all the time!"

And usually, self-consciously, I go and change in to a neutral pattern item.
And a brighter color.

But I still like my dark, striped ties. Like Andy!

I can't imagine what the phrase "Barney up" would mean in competition
shooting. It has to be good, though, don't ya think? I mean, ol' Barn was a
good shot after all. He may shoot a few holes in the courthouse floor and
ceiling, but when it comes down to it he's a regular dead-eye dickie!
Remember the chain letter episode? At the end he hits the bulls-eye with
practically every shot. I can't shoot that well and I'm not even under a
curse!

Opie: "I'm worried about 'em."
Barney: "Opie, you don't have to worry about them. What can happen?"
Opie: "Well, that lightnin'. What about that?"
Barney: "A dog can't get struck by lightning! You know why? Cause he's too
close to the ground. See, lightning strikes tall things. Now if they was
giraffes out there in that field, now then we'd be in trouble. But you sure
don't have to worry about dogs."
Opie: "I'm worried about 'em, Pa."
Andy: "Well."
Barney: "Ah, look Opie. What were dogs a million years ago? Wild animals,
right? Wolves, coyotes - they know how to hunt and fish and look for
shelter. Take them two big airedales. Why, they looked healthy as horses to
me. And the little spotted one? He was in fine shape."
Opie: "But the little one I first came in with, he was a trembler, wasn't
he?"
Barney: "Him? Well, the big ones will look after him. See, they take care
of their own. ...And ya know dogs have a way of keepin' dry. You know
that. They're insulated, ya see. They got this fur... and that keeps 'em
cool in the summer... and warm and dry in the winter. They're really set up
a lot better than human beings as far as that goes. ...As far as the little
one goes, the big ones, they'll take care of him. The little, trembly one...
And they're short, ya see, close to the ground, and that way they can't get
struck by lightning. Now if they were giraffes, they'd have been hit by now.
But dogs are short. They take care of their own. Giraffes don't. No,
giraffes don't at all. ...Boy, giraffes are selfish - just runnin' around,
lookin' after number one,... gettin' hit by lightning. But dogs... Are you
just gonna sit there, or are you comin' with me?
Andy: "What?"
Barney: "To get them dogs!"

The best "Andy" tape I have ever heard is one that was "custom made" for me
by a friend and fellow WBMUTBB member in Tennessee. You can believe he has
my undying thanks.

By the way, do Nigerians like TAGS? I like Monty Python but you'd have to
be English to get all the references. What would a Nigerian think of the
"giraffes are selfish" bit , having probably had direct experience with
giraffes? I would imagine some of the jokes wouldn't translate too well.

Curiouser and curiouser...

I finally got through to Columbia House, reactivated my old membership from a
year and a half ago and ordered some tapes...1-888-590-6656 if anyone else is
interested. I am currently a member of the CH DVD Club so I had an account #.
You will need an account # to walk you through the automated part before you
speak to a rep. I hope this helps someone else like it helped me. Thanks to
several members here who graciously emailed me with good advice!
