Concerning the expression "Barney-up", I can remember lots of times when people
were taking turns doing things and you would hear, "Who's up next?". Maybe
that is what they are doing; and they were combining the expression with put
your gun up 'cause you better had be ready when those skeet hit the air.

Hello to everyone reading the Digest,
I have been asked by a few folks where they might stay in Pigeon Forge for
the June 28 "A Tribute to Mayberry" show. I have two great suggestions. One
of our sponsors is Echota, which has great cabins. There number is 1(800)-
SMOKIES.
For those looking for a hotel, I have worked out a deal with Baymont Inn and
Suites. It is located by the theater. TAGS fans should ask for the
"Mayberry Rate" for a special discount. (The regular rate in June is $99.95
per night, but we get the rooms for $70.00) That is a nice savings. Their
number is (865) 428-7305. I hope this helps.
Thanks,
Tim McAbee

Hi all,
I went to TVguide online and voted for TAGS as the all time best show, and
ya'll should too.
After all "turncoat", "cream puff", your vote could be the winning one!
God Bless

>>>Lucy & Honeymooners had violence, i.e. 'standards' (Jackie Gleason
constantly threatening his wife, Desi's threatening Lucy). TAGS NEVER had
those kinds of content!
Mayberry DID have it's share of domestic violence, but of course it was
always presented in a humorous light:
Otis was once jailed for hitting his mother-in-law in the mouth with a leg
of lamb
In "Barney's Replacement," Ed Simpkins "gave his wife 'what-for' " (right
after Andy scoffed at the notion that a wife-beating could happen in
Mayberry)
Briscoe Darling once asked his daughter "How many young girls do you know
that's got a wood floor and a husband that hardly ever hits ya?"

TV Guide/'best tv poll': I suppose by the 'best tv

to rank pretty high!

Unfortunately, very little of Don's "Steve Allen" work is on home video. Two
tapes in print, which include clips of Don (as the nervous man, and in skits
with Tom Poston, Louie Nye, Gabe Dell, Bill Dana, etc.) are:
STEVE ALLEN'S 75th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
BIOGRAPHY - STEVE ALLEN
Both are readily available from online video sellers (Amazon, B&N, etc.), and
in stores, as well as thru the Steve Allen website, currently managed by his
widow Jayne Meadows: www.steveallen.com
An out of print tape from the late '80s is "Steve Allen's Golden Age of
Comedy." Used copies turn up every now and then... but again, Don's work is
only shown in a few clips.
When cable's Comedy Central launched in the mid-'80s, 1/2 hour edited versions
of Steve's NBC variety show were on the schedule; I haven't seen them elsewhere
since CC dropped it after a only a year. I believe about 50 episodes were
produced. Your best bet is to find someone who taped them. Don is in almost
every episode. Another TAGS actor who Allen used many times on his show's
sketches: Howard McNear.

Anyone who owns Andy Griffith's gospel album 'Somebody Bigger Than You And I'
can compare the songs recorded on that to his later releases of 'Precious
Memories' and 'Just As I Am.' 'Somebody Bigger Than You And I' was issued in
1972 while the later gospel albums were released in 1995 and 1997
respectively. About half the songs on 'Somebody' were later recorded on the
latter two. The production and engineering has improved in the course of
twenty-three years. Andy and Barbara Griffith divorced in 1972;Andy appears
with wife Cindi in photographs on the recent Sparrow albums. Interestingly,
Barbara appears in the TAGS episode 'The Song Festers' as a member of the
choir.

Tuesday night on NYPD BLUE A WOMAN WAS ARRESTED FOR CARRYING DRUGS. AN
ARRIVING DETECTIVE ASKED THE LOCAL PATROLMAN ABOUT THE WOMAN AND HE REPLIED
THAT SHE WAS DOING AN "AUNT BEA". IS AMAZING HOW THE TAGS' CHARACTERS
HAVE LINGERED ON AND LEFT THEIR MARK ON TV.

My local cable company just added TV Land to the channel selections. I was
so excited when my husband discovered it by accident. He was flipping
channels and there it was - TAGS! It has been years since any of our
stations aired TAGS, and I've missed it.

Hello,
Thanks so much for the response on episodes without Barney. I was amazed
at how many there were. I just never realized it before. Also I wanted to
ask about something I saw on Ebay.
It was great!! I tried to bid on it but I think the bidding is high. It was
a die cast replica of the Mayberry squad car. It said it was a Johnny
Lightning Hollywood on Wheels Series. It was a '62 Ford Galaxie. I really
would have liked to had it. Does anyone know where to find one that isn't in
an auction?
