My post specifically responded to what another poster said, were "standards"
of "cursing, constant sex talk, and nudity." The original poster never
mentioned violence or talk of it. None of that ever, *ever* appeared on "I
Love Lucy," "The Honeymooners" or TAGS. There were, however, references to
domestic violence ("Sometimes all a woman understands is a good leg of
lamb!") from another era...

Hi When they were preparing to do the "Return To Mayberry"
show Andy Griffith & some of the cast members appeared on one of
the talk or News shows. I remember Andy saying that some of the
situations , i,e. Otis etc. would not be allowed on TV in this
day and age..and that was like 1986. I feel that those
situations were handled with gentle humour in TAGS . However, I was
always fearful of the Honeymooners and as much as I Love Lucy I
was always worried that Ricky was gonna let Lucy have it. Odd
though I always felt that Lucy would give it right back.
I think in the long run that 25 yrs from now ppl. will still
remember TAGS and wonder what a Sienfeld is.
On a lighter note it should be against TVland" rules" to edit
the immortal giraffe line......
Have a great day !!

A coworker was doing some research for a project and came across a story on
the Hickory (NC) Rotary Club website that had a sentence I thought the
Digest would be interested in...
"Over the years, Ladies Night programs often highlighted the Rotary year. In
1953, the speaker was Andy Griffith, of Chapel Hill, who directed a scene
from Shakespeare's "Hamlet" with the aid of "volunteers" from the audience."
Can you imagine how much fun it would have been to see that or be a
"volunteer"?

I still have copies of the original "MAYBERRY GAZETTE" prop used in the
"CONVICTS AT LARGE" episode. The original is owned by Howard McNears son,
Kit McNear and he was gracious enough to have it copied for us to enjoy. The
profits go to THE BLIND CHILDREN'S FUND, so be sure to order one for yourself
and another one as a gift for a friend. They are $10 each plus $3.50
shipping per order. They measure 11x17 and are printed on a heavy business
card type paper. PLEASE, contact me directly at the e-mail address below and
don't respond to the digest. Thank you!

Oh, me, oh my, where is TAGS on TV-Land now? We ALWAYS watched it at supper
time (6-ish Missouri time)! It made the meal happier.
Any body know when it comes on now? Will we have to get out the video tapes
to record and "catch it" now? thanks.

>>I like the scene where Andy, Barney and Aunt Bee are
searching through the trash at the dump for the
newspaper article that Opie and Arnold wrote.
Andy picks up a magazine and says uh-oh what's this "a
girlie magazine" now who would subscribe to a magazine
like this "BARNEY" and then barney says he
reads it for the articles and the photography. Andy
comments on the flower on her foot.<<
I believe the episode where those 3 searched for
Opie's gossip paper was from a different episode.
When Andy & Barney found the "girlie" magazine, they
were searching for the chain letter from Goober/Floyd,
if I'm not mistaken. I don't think they would have
opened up a centerfold in front of Aunt Bee. Besides
the excellent photography, Barney was just trying to
help out a kid selling magazines, while working his
way through college. A noble gesture, indeed!

>>Mayberry DID have it's share of domestic violence,
but of course it was always presented in a humorous
light:
Otis was once jailed for hitting his mother-in-law in
the mouth with a leg of lamb
In "Barney's Replacement," Ed Simpkins "gave his wife
'what-for' "(right after Andy scoffed at the notion
that a wife-beating could happen in Mayberry)
Briscoe Darling once asked his daughter "How many
young girls do you know that's got a wood floor and a
husband that hardly ever hits ya?"
--Paul<<
Also add to the list Andy's black eye from Al, over
Daphne's honor, the feuding Carter's & Wakefields, and
last but not least Fred & Jenny Boone's plate
throwing...."morning DEAR....mornin' HUNNEE". But
somehow we knew they were all good hearted folks.
Making light of issues like Otis' alcoholism and
domestic violence would never fly in today's PC
climate. That's why I love old TAGS, very non-PC.
Notice how Otis had sobered up by '86, for "Return to
Mayberry"? Sad.

Paul, how could you say that the domestic violence that happened in Mayberry is
of less severity than the threats of violence in the other two shows you
mentioned? I never think that any kind of domestic violence is something to
joke about.

I am a flight attendant and do the London route once a
week. We stay in a lovely hotel, however it has only 4
tv channels (and no tags)- I was watching a 70's
detective movie the other day and who should appear
but our own Jean(hello doll) carson as a landlady. I
was so excited to have a little daily dose of my tags
friends and then in the next scene who should appear
but the beautiful lady lawyer from Raleigh, Lee Drake!
I hope all of you have a Mayberry moment this week!

As you may know, in their 2nd anniversary issue (May 4 - 10), TV Guide lists
The Andy Griffith Show #9 out of 50! But did you know they have a fan poll
on their website? That's right, and you can go there right now and vote for
TAGS! It is
currently #10 on the poll, so if you have a minute go vote for TAGS at
http://www.tvguide.com/magazine/issues/020429/poll.asp. Come on, we can't
let Buffy, the Vampire Slayer (currently #2 in the poll) and The Simpsons
(#4) beat Andy!!
Have you noticed that TV Land has disrupted our daily dosage of TAGS? Fire
off an email to TV Land and ask them why in the world they messed up a
winning evening lineup of 2 hours of TAGS every evening. TV Land's email is
