I went out to vote on TAGS in TV Guide's 50 Greatest shows. Now, I don't
mean to violate rule #1, but as of this morning, according to the poll, the
2nd greatest show in the history of television was Buffy the Vampire Slayer!
That's so dumb I wrote a letter to TV Guide. Didn't mail it, though, I
wouldn't buy a stamp from that stamp machine.

Mayberry DID have it's share of domestic violence, but
of course it was
always presented in a humorous light:
Otis was once jailed for hitting his mother-in-law in
the mouth with a
leg
of lamb
In "Barney's Replacement," Ed Simpkins "gave his wife
'what-for' "
(right
after Andy scoffed at the notion that a wife-beating
could happen in
Mayberry)
Briscoe Darling once asked his daughter "How many
young girls do you
know
that's got a wood floor and a husband that hardly ever
hits ya?"
I'm obviously only an apprentice noticer. The final
note from me on scripted spousal abuse in TAGS v.
Honeymooners, etc. It wasn't an ongoing part of the
schtick on TAGS. The other shows had threatening
behavior, especially potential spousal abuse, as part
of their regular gag-line!

When I questioned TV Guide's standards for ranking TAGS as the 9th best show,
I shor didn't aim to imply that other good shows like I Love Lucy, and The
Honeymooners were of low character. The fact is I never even saw the TV
Guide in question, I'd only read what others wrote about it. I still haven't
seen it but I'll bet you could weed out half the list if you eliminated the
shows that feature cursing, nudity to semi-nudity, and sex talk.
I'm not a prude by any means but I don't see how you can look at a show like
TAGS, then something like Drew Carey, and come to any other conclusion than
standards have gone down. Its a shame in this world.

Hey guys,
Well, it looks like TVLand will never see our individual emails as I just
received the following as a standard reply.....
Please read this auto response from TV LAND
If you have written requesting information about when a specific show is
scheduled to air, or when a specific episode of a show is scheduled to air,
please check our Schedules Online at http://www.tvland.com/schedules. The
information there comes directly from our programming department. If you do
not see a show listed in our Schedules Online, that means the show is not
scheduled at this time, sorry.
The answers to many viewer questions including which types of e-mail we can
and can not respond to may be found on Postmaster Steve's FAQ page. Go to
http://www.tvland.com/postmaster
TV Land is no longer doing Fandemonium Marathons, but we thank those of you
who took the time to request certain shows for them.
Thanks for joining us on air and online,
Postmaster Steve

Subject: Being offended
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I want this to be a positive comment because of Rule #1 and/or 2 but I don't
know if it's going to turn out that way. Different folks are offended by
different things that are joked about. Some members have expressed almost
horror over domestic & other violence shown in TAGS & other early TV shows
(i.e. the Boones, Oits & his leg of lamb comment, Opie's black eye, etc).
They have trouble accepting the town drunk's situation as being humorous.
Nobody thought a thing about it at the time - no more than they did of
westerns where everybody gets shot with a six-gun that holds 17 or 18
bullets. It was all "make-believe".
I suppose when a certain situation hits close to home, then a person is more
sensitive about it. Remember Fred Goss didn't think grass stains were any
joking matter. Personally, I'm way yonder more offended these days by the
irrevant remarks made regarding God - by the filthy language used in the name
of humor - especially by children - and I'm totally turned off by sexual
references and acts shown on TV - ALL of them being between people who aren't
even married to each other. I could not believe what I saw & heard on
Seinfield last night regarding the "moves". Is nothing sacred anymore?
Goober Linda - I can take a joke but pleeeeezzzzeee.......

Hi Gang..
Is it just me or is our happy community here getting a little "tense"
lately? I've noticed a few posts that seemed almost hateful in content,
and that's not what the WBMUTBB is all about. We hear enough of that in
everyday life. When I start reading that stuff I just hit the delete
key and go on to something else. This board is like no other. You can
get on some boards and "vent" on your soap box, but PLEASE not here.
On a lighter note, just saw one of my favorite TAGS episodes where
Thelma Lou makes up the story that Andy called on her when she was
trying to make Barney jealous. Reminded me of my favorite Andy
mannerism seen in many episodes. Thats when he wraps his hand over his
mouth to cover his laughing at Barney. It's priceless. We've had
members post in the past about their favorite scenes. How about some of
you new members sharing yours.

Oh, me, oh my, where is TAGS on TV-Land now? We ALWAYS watched it at supper

Any body know when it comes on now? >>

I just read about 30 wbmutbb posts in one sitting.. whew!
I sent a nice email to TVland asking for unedited Andy, and voted for TAGS
as the number one show at the TV Guide poll. Come on, let's vote folks!
Let's don't let "Star Trek: Next Generation" beat Andy! Anyway, I think
that there is a serious teen demographic voting, considering the showing of
"Buffy." Granted, S.M. Gellar is a cutie, but better than Andy? No way.
I thought Michael's post comparing Andy to Batman was a hoot. Although I
wouldn't describe Burt Ward as "wiry" these days.
Peace out,
Jason

Subject: Mayberry Hawthorne Series
Can anyone give me a complete list of accessories (not buildings and/or
characters) that make up the Mayberry Village in the Hawthorne series? I
bought a set of fall trees that were advertised on ebay as part of the Mayberry
collection but nothing on the box or pieces themselves would indicate that
they're part of the series. I just want to make sure I'm not getting duped on
this piece.
Any help would be apprecatied.
Thanks
