I finally broke down and subscribed to the Columbia House series. Wow, the
quality actually seems to be better than that provide by my local cable
company! And to see the whole show, uncut, well...don't that just clutch ya?
I finally got to see the uncut "Giraffe's sure are selfish" bit. It's great.
I'm looking forward to the next one already.

I enjoyed watching the all too brief special last night (Monday) where
the Andy Griffith Show was voted the #9 American TV show of all time.
Though I thought a number of shows were missing from that top 50, and a
few that were included didn't make a lick of sense to me, I was pleased
over all. Given that it was based (I believe) on an internet poll, which
could never guarantee a fair demographic balance of the American public,
it was nice to see so many old favorites, and Rob Reiner's comments about
TAGS were right on the mark. Shows like this will encourage the younger
generation to surf on over to TV Land and visit Mayberry with us.

WBMUTBB member Johnny Phillips has a great website with photos from the 2001
Squadcar Nationals (among other Mayberry events - its a gooood website).

http://www.angelfire.com/tv/hoftog/fayette1.htm

Last year it was held in Fayette, AL at a nice park with an old landing
strip, but the squadcars will be competing at a new facility in Brent, AL
and I believe there will be even more competing for the championship this
year.

I heard lots of good things about last year's event and I'm making the trip
down this year - hope to see a good turnout.

My wife and daughter and I were in Atlanta over the weekend for the Paul
McCartney concert and were staying in Midtown right across the street from
the Fox Theater on Peachtree. On that same block is a place called Agatha's,
which bills itself as "a comedy murder mystery dinner theater with audience
participation." We didn't attend any of the performances, so I can't comment
on how good or bad the place is, but I was intrigued by the sign out front
advertising its current show: "Maybury R.I.P."

For a description of the plot, complete with a list of the cast of characters
and poster art, visit their Web site:
http://www.agathas.com.futuresite.register.com/_wsn/page2.html

BTW, in the window of the theater there were several Mason jars labeled "Aunt
Bee's Killer Okra."

One of my coworkers went to Knoxville, Tennessee this weekend and brought me
back a nice flyer for the June show in Pigeon Forge. Which leads to the
reason for my post. Any of you guys (and gals) planning on going to the
show. I plan to go, I just hope I'm not to late to get tickets and motel
reservations. It'll be my first trip to a Mayberry-related event and I look
forward to meeting some of you nice people and putting some faces to all the
names I see on the digest. Well, gotta go, TAGS just came on.

Got time to breathe, got time for TAGS and TAGS-related events,
Doug Johnson

The "Some of Us Got It... Some of Us Ain't" TAGSRWC Chapter of Clayton/Garner,
NC had another outstanding meeting tonight with a bowling theme. We watched
"Howard the Bowler" and "Goober and the Art of Love" and then risked our backs
being in traction for a month by going bowling. We all picked TAGS character
names to bowl under and it was fun evening all around.

I thought I would pass along an idea we got from the owner of the bowling
alley for other chapters to consider. She told us next time to bring the TAGS
tape and she could show it on the screen while we bowled. I don't know that
everyone would or could do that, but it would be worth asking about and would
make for a fun chapter meeting.

Are there any other episodes with bowling referenced?

I just wanted to say thank you to Bob Bravetti for his comments the other
day. You have summed up what I have been wanting to say for a while now.
Actually I'm glad you wrote because I could never have been that polite.
(which is why I haven't responded until now).

                                     Thanks again!

Subject: TAGS Pre-Recorded Tapes

Hey Folks,

As part of my continuing effort to get all of the TAGS episodes on tape in
order I'm clearing out all my pre-recorded tapes that are in excellent
shape to free up some storage space, given that I haven't watched many of
them in years.

I've got many of the old Premiere Promotions tapes as well as many of the
UAV releases and several others including the Danny Thomas Pilot and one
extra Columbia House tape.

I thought I'd offer these to the members of the DIGEST first before I start
eBaying them, so you can view the list of videos and their episodes at

day.

I wanted to thank Bob as well. I guess I've been getting a little slack in
my duties around our little corner of Mayberry. I haven't been stepping in as
often as I use to in order to keep things in the Mayberry way.

Bob was as right as rain. We've been being a little on the negative side and
I just wanted to thank him for pointing it out.

I'm going to send out "The Rules" again below. I believe they do a good job
explaining our part of Mayberry on the web. --Allan

---------------------The Rules-----------------------

I feel like with the number of new members we've gotten lately that it's time
to restate "The Rules" for everybody. You old-timers might want to read
through this just to refresh your memories and I think it's good for all of
us to try and remember these tried and true rules.---- Allan

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hey Everybody,

Boy, things have really been growing here in out little corner of Mayberry!!
Because of that I think it's time to remind everyone what WBMUTBB is all
about:

We all know what Mayberry is about but do we realize why it is that we all
visit there everyday? I know that the characters are great but more than
that, they're friends. We "know" these people and it's just a joy to visit
them every chance we get to watch them as they work their way through getting
locked in a cell because the door "clangs shut" or any of the other wonderful
situations they face. Things always work out in a wonderful way leaving a
smile on our faces.

Mayberry is an escape from the day-to-day trials we all face. A short trip
to a place where every body cares about one another and where we can forget,
for a while, the fact that "real life" isn't as much like that as we'd like.

I started WBMUTBB back in 1990, along with several other good folks, and
since then I've tried to make it as much like a "corner of Mayberry" as
possible. I wanted this place to be somewhere folks could go and forget
about the outside world and relax by reading about Andy, Barney, Opie, Aunt
Bee, and the rest of our Mayberry family.

To try and make that happen I've required everyone who wanted to join to tell
us a little about themselves so we could get to know them just a little bit.
After all, in Mayberry everyone knew everybody else and how can we have a
community without having at least some idea about our neighbors?

I've also had a couple of rules here and I try to enforce them.

Of course Rule #1 is...you guessed it...Obey all rules.

Rule #2 is this: Talk about the things you like about Mayberry..not things
you don't like.

I know some folks forget this second rule sometimes and they don't really
understand WHY I think Rule #2 is important so let me just give you an
example. Let's say I were to say, "Boy, I really hate Barney. I mean, look
how stupid he is and poor Andy has to put up with him." If I said that (and
meant it) what are the first things that happen to you?

First you'd feel like, "Man, that guys a jerk!" Then you'd get aggravated at
this guy talking about your Favorite character (and friend), Barney Fife.
Even if Barney's not your very favorite character, you'd likely be upset
about this guy talking about your neighbor.

I've never heard anyone say anything like that about Barn but I have about
other characters and folks forget that just because they don't like a
particular character doesn't mean that character isn't someone elses
favorite. You see, if I talk about your favorite character saying negative
things about 'em it takes your fun away.

I think that's enough about Rule #2 and I hope you all understand the rule.
It's not to take away from your fun but to encourage you all to tell us about
what's fun to you and share your good feelings with others.

We have something special here. It's something you don't find often on the
internet. No "flames", no "fighting", no "foul language." We have a place
that children and adults can come and enjoy themselves.

Mayberry is a wonderful place and I'm just glad to be a part of this little
corner of it.

Your Friend and neighbor,

Allan Newsome
