In the episode where Barney had to get taller and gain weight to pass the
deputies exam, Andy wore a tie to the weigh-in, albeit only to the end of
his ribcage, and Barney didn't. Is that one answer to the "tie" question
posed recently. I noticed that Asa was apparently off-duty from his job at
the Mayberry Security Bank when he brought over the contraption that was
supposed to get Barney taller.

Within the definition of "hats" as given in yesterday's Digest, let's not
forget the Indian headdress that Andy wears when being sworn into the Tomahawk
Club. That club, I'm sure, was a much better one than the stuffy old Esquire
Club.

I don't know of any way to do this other than the one you tried.
However, if you can't get it to ring the theme, you may want to do
what I did. While I recorded my outgoing voice mail message we
played the Andy theme in the background on the tv. It turned out great!
When people get my voice mail to leave a message they hear me and
Andy!! I've gotten cute comments about it. Good luck.

No, that's not it either, so here are two clues in the next sentence
that should give you the episode.
It was a joy to watch this episode in color.

In light of mentioning Jim Nabors' appearance in 'The Lucy Show' episode
'Lucy Gets Caught in the Draft', let's not forget Andy Griffith and Don
Knotts showing up on 'Here's Lucy.' Jim's cameo on Lucy was during 'Gomer
Pyle USMC's third season. Don Knotts guest starred on the 'Here's Lucy'
episode 'Lucy Goes On Her Last Blind Date.' Andy Griffith appeared on the
simply named episode 'Lucy and Andy Griffith.'A slew of character actors and
actresses who were on TAGS also were on one of the three Lucy shows; 'I Love
Lucy', 'The Lucy Show' and 'Here's Lucy.

That is a great question.... The hats Andy wore. Did Andy wear an Indian
headdress or anything for that play? I know that Barney did as chief
Naugatuck. How about that weather repellent Sheriff's hat that he wore to
Sam Beckers?? It seems like he may have had more that the one sportsman's
cap (for fishing). (There was the one Opie brought him for the inspector)
Maybe I'm just thinking of Barney's fishing cap when they saw the lady
speeder go by.

Is any anybody able to confirm my "toilet water" quote I mentioned in the
last Digest?

There is a (new?) book out by TVland that is interesting. I browsed it at
the bookstore last night. It's called "TVLand To Go" and it full of stuff
about classic TV. Among TAGS references I noticed were the fact that Neal
Brower's "Mayberry 101" made the top 20 book list, and 3 or 4 Griffith
episodes made the top 100 episode list. We Andy maniacs would probably put
about 25-50 Andy's in the top 100, but their approach was supposedly
scientific (by the book but not by the heart). #1 was Mary Tyler Moore's
"Chuckles the Clown" episode. #11 was Danny Thomas meets Sheriff Andy
Taylor. Then #28 Man in a Hurry, #57 Barney and the Choir, # 99 Class
Reunion. There's probably some other good stuff in there.. Check it out.

Sarah, put this call right through. It's a trouble-check
