It's sure good to see that "youngsters" are watching TAGS these days.
Kinda restores my faith in humanity! All three of my younguns were raised
watching TAGS. AND...by the way...anyone who came into my house whilst
they were bein raised....also watched TAGS!

When folks get a little low on common sense.....it's good to watch
TAGS.....sometimes I feel like the entire US congress oughta start out
each session with a little....."Barney's Sidecar"....or "The Jinx"....or
maybe even a little of the "fun Girls!" I can just see it now....after
watching a few episodes.....a congressman might get up and say....."I have
in this briefcase...76 documented cases of malfeasance in the sheriff's
office!"

Well....I think I've heard just about enough about that tomato......so
I'll leave ya with this....
"Wear a ruby ring and ride an old horse...the horse will go mad!'

I was watching last night...and Neal Bentley.....the attorney for Otis
Campbell was suing the sheriff's office for $5000.00. I was wondering
about references to...or appearances of attorneys. Was the guy that came
in to "help" Andy and Barney....you know the guy from the "State
Attorney's office (Green River Ordinance)....an attorney? And who were
those "attorneys" that Barney was talking about when the Lady Speeder was
looking for legal assistance?

Any way....just wondering about the names and times that barristers have
made appearances in Mayberry.

Hi Everyone,

I was watching the episode last night "Otis Sues the County" and finally
got to see the epilog. I had never seen it before and it was a hoot! One
of my favorite lines is also in that episode.

Floyd: "You know what this means dont you"?
Andy: "What"
Floyd: "If you want a good suit, you have to go to Mt Pilot"

That cracks me up everytime!!

I am looking forward to spending my 40th birthday "mayberry style". My
family is taking me to Pigeon Forge to see "A Tribute to Mayberry". What a
birthday this is going to be!

I thought it was "Aunt Bea" for "Beatrice," but credits on some early shows
list it as "Aunt Bee." Many posters do likewise.

When Andy and Helen went to Myers Lake (in Stokes County near Siler City),
Barney volunteered to take Andy's place to take Aunt Bea/Bee shopping as if
she needed someone to go with her. In other episodes, she seems perfectly
capable of going shopping by herself. Was this a gentlemanly gesture by
Andy/Barney or what?

Lots of luck to you and yours.

Hi
Not sure what you want, but yes I want to "subscribe". I also want to see
all the "stuff" that's available. I have written to Nashville to the old
office address and that mail of course was returned. So, only last week I
decided to search the web for Mayberry....We look forward to learning all
that's going on and that is available. Loyal Fan since the first show!

Sincerely, Chuck Shelton

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I believe Andy smoked in real life years ago as did many back then; old
movies show lots of smokers. It's just very noticeable now as so few
folks smoke these days. I do believe I read somewhere that he has since
quit. PTL!!!

>>CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME DIRECTIONS TO MAYBERRY IN THE MIDWEST. COMING FROM
CINCINNATI ,OHIO.

Well Mark, why don't you just get in your car and I'll get in mine and I'll
take you there with a police escort..Oh yer not Melissa are you?

Actually from Cincinnati, you get on your loop there 270 and get over to the
West side and catch Interstate 74. Take 74 into Indiana until you see state
Rd 3. Take 3 north through Rushville across I-70 and into New Castle.

I get some more specifics about in-town to the Convention Center. I'm also
going to call over there and find out about restaurant possibilities, since
some of you want to meet.

Watch out for the Checkpoint Chickie though,

> I don't know the specifics on who sponsored the show. . .

My understanding is that TAGS was sponsored for its entire run by General
Foods, the makers of a host of products including Post Cereals, Maxwell
House Coffee, and Jell-O. In the early episodes (and possibly the later
ones--I can't remember) the cast members would actually "act out" the final
commercial (after the epilogue and before the credits) in character and on
the set. I've seen a couple of these.

WTBS aired a Jell-O Pudding commercial as part of a TAGS tribute a few years
ago that was taken from the "Mr. McBeevee" episode. In it, you see Andy,
Opie, and Barney sitting around the kitchen table eating Jell-O Pudding when
Opie starts talking about feeding his imaginary horse, Blackie, some of the
pudding. Barney has a look of skepticism and annoyance on his face as Andy
extols the virtues of Jell-O Pudding and then, to Barn's amazement, an
actual horse sticks its head through the kitchen window! The look on
Barney's face is priceless.

In another one I've seen, Barney insists that Andy do calisthenics before
enjoying his Post Grape Nuts breakfast. While Andy is doing his knee bends,
Barney slips away and steals his cereal. Commercials like that are almost
as entertaining as scenes in the show itself!

As a broadcaster myself and TAGS fan, I would love it if these "on set"
commercials could be made available for us to enjoy once again; they may all
be lost, though. Many of us fondly remember Andy inviting us to use the
sponsor's product and closing with "I appreciate it...and good night!"

By the way, I Love Lucy was sponsored by Philip Morris, and I've always felt
that that fact accounted for the many scenes of characters smoking on that
show. In TAGS, the smoking seems natural and incidental.

General Foods was the sole sponsor of TAGS when it first ran on CBS and I
don't know of any cigarette companies that ever advertised on the show.
Mostly it was such GF products as Post Cereals, Sanka coffee and Gaines
Burgers. (Notice how much they *do* seem to be drinking coffee or eating
cereal...or eating pancakes, presumably with Log Cabin syrup.)

However, I have a network copy of the first episode of "Mayberry RFD" and
there *is* a spot in the middle for Virginia Slims (one of those classic
"You've come a long way baby" spots).

You didn't let anyone see you riding down the road with your mouth open like
that, did you? ;-)
