Hello,
Paul, in response to everyone (including myself) asking how DO you know all
that stuff---I must say that was the perfect line to post!! I laughed so hard
when I read it. If not everyone caught it he said "he couldn't take credit
for it 'cause his mind just works that way". Thanks again for all the info
Paul.

Crystal,

All we know is that she worked in an office.

Thanks to Richard Dixon for that site about Johnny Coons. Now my
curiosity is satisfied although I still cannot place him in any Mayberry
episodes. He kinda' reminded me of that gentleman who portrayed a lot of
bankers and other dignified men and whom I always pictured as the
principal of the high school in the Archie comics. Does anyone remember
seeing him in Mayberry anywhere?

"In 'Man in a Hurry', Andy says that Opie thinks that blue surge grows on
trees. What does that mean? I'd like to use that line in conversation,
but I'd like to know what it means first."

The correct spelling is "serge." Serge is a type of fabric that usually
contains wool. It's pretty common; if you go to any fabric store you can see
it for yourself. If Opie had been wearing blue jeans instead of a suit, Andy
would have said "denim" instead of "blue serge."

"Quit pullin' them horsehairs...you want your suit to go soft?"

I think David Letterman must be a true fan of
Mayberry. He has mentioned Andy & Aunt Bee on his
show in the past. During one show last week, he
talked about encountering a wild animal in the woods
and started to shake like Barney Fife!

In reference to:

In 'Man in a Hurry', Andy says that Opie thinks that blue surge grows on
trees. What does that mean? I'd like to use that line in conversation,
but I'd like to know what it means first.

My wife thinks that blue surge refers to the material of Opie's new suit.
If you remember, he was pulling the "hairs" out of it and he thinks the
material is easy to come by. I felt it meant that since Andy didn't have
much money thus "money doesn't grow on tress", Opie should not be pulling
hairs out of the suit, ruining the new suit.

Not sure of either of these thoughts, but will be watching to see what
other people think.
